1 Cubro Series PRODUCT OVERVIEW Network Packet Broker (NPB) At a glance Definition The Cubro Packetmaster (Network Packet Broker) EX2 Series, based on a new designed ASIC, is a switch like device. EX2 Series provide network visibility which is needed to have control of the network traffic. The device can filter, manage, and analyze the network traffic down to the user level. EX2 and EX2+ can effectively tell what is happening in the network, what has an associated impact on the company and the company s productivity. Using this network packet broker (NPB), the user can feed the specific data flow directly into the monitoring tools for an exact analysis of any part of the network. One of the challenges that telecom operators face is to receive control information from different base stations. The network packet brokers are generally not portable and therefore it is not convenient to carry them to different base stations. For telecom operators, having filtered information from the base station is important for troubleshooting. With Cubro Series, the telecom operators can easily get the required filtered information. EX2/EX2+ is the only portable field packet broker which offers full features of a NPB. EX2/EX2+ has six ports. The device supports 4 X 10/100/1000 Mbit and 2 X ports (SFP SFP+). Each port can have an output and/or an input functionality. A network packet broker (NPB) is a tool that receives data from number of network links, duplicates, aggregates and filters that data for the monitoring tools. 4 DATA SHEET APPLICATIONS / SOLUTIONS 10 Gbit link monitoring The EX2/EX2+ is connected via the Cubro Optical TAP to a 10 Gbit or 1 Gbit optical live link. Using the filtering capability of the / EX2+, the user can select only the portion of the traffic which is required to solve the network problem. The traffic can be forwarded to the 4 x Gbit or to the remaining TX ports of the optical interfaces. inline 10 Gbit aggregated & filtered Ethernet traffic to wireshark 10 Gbit monitoring without TAP The EX2/EX2+ is connected direct in a live optical link, 1 Gbit or 10 Gbit without TAP. Filters can be set up and traffic is sent out on the 4 x 10/100/1000 Mbit Base T interfaces. This amount of traffic is small enough to be captured with a standard laptop. The application has no impact on the live link because of the very low delay, and the non-blocking design of the unit.session-aware load balancing is a standard feature and can be used at any time. inline 10 Gbit aggregated & filtered Ethernet traffic to wireshark Aggregation and filtering The EX2/EX2+ is connected to several devices, for instance span ports. The traffic from various sources can be aggregated to one stream for a monitoring device. This application reduces the overhead associated with each transmission. The appliances can be set up to share the traffic load by load balancing and even filtering the data. This way, only the traffic of interest is sent out to the appliances and it minimizes the possibility of oversubscribing the 1GbE monitor ports. 4

5 Bypass A bypass is a hardware device that provides a fail-safe access port for an in-line active security appliance. EX2/EX2+ monitors the health of the active, in-line appliance by sending heartbeats to the in-line security appliance. As long as the in band security appliance is on-line, the heartbeat packets will be returned to the EX2/EX2+, and the link traffic will continue to flow through the in-line security appliance. This function also works on the copper ports with a copper hardware switch. It allows the in-line appliance to be removed or serviced without impacting network traffic. 1 GbitCopper Monitoring The EX2/EX2+ is connected directly in a live copper link 10/100/1000 without TAP and then you can set up filters and send the traffic out on the 4 x 10/100/1000 Mbit T interfaces. This traffic is small enough to be captured with a standard laptop. This function also allows for the traffic to be removed and inserted in the live links. 6 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION EX2/EX Software The EX2 Series comes with the new 2.0 Web GUI. It has a graphical configuration interface (GUI) instead of the traditional command line interface (CLI) which makes it easier for customers to set up and use the tools. It makes monitoring filters more accurate, testing and trouble-shooting filters more efficient, filter-changing process quicker and filter interaction smarter. The App manager is a feature where a user can run a python script protected within the Cubro environment. Flow generator The EX2 Series can produce flow records from the attached traffic. The flows can be used to produce any kind of statistics. The flows are sampled, the sampling rate depends on the load. The flows are sflow standard and can be received with all sflow collectors. The two types of collectors available are commercial and free flow. Difference between EX2 and EX2+ The EX2+ is available with two built in Optical TAPs (1XLink SM 80/20 and 1xLink MM 50/50). The EX2+ is delivered in a transport case.
