1 Mobile Computing Homework#1 Due date: Oct.25, 2018 NOTE: WRITE YOUR ANSWERS IN ENGLISH. ID#: Name: (Kor.) (Eng.) Problem #1 (20pts). Answer the following questions based on your knowledge. 1) In Data-Link layer the data are carried in. 2) At the application layer, transmitted information is called a. 3) At the transport layer, transmitted information is called a. 4) At the network layer, transmitted information is called a. 5) Typically, Routers are Layer devices and Switches are Layer devices. 6) An application-layer process sends messages into, and receives messages from, the network through a software interface called a. This is also referred to as an API which stands for. 7) The Internet s application layer includes many protocols, such as the protocol (which provides for Web document request and transfer), (which provides for the transfer of e- mail messages), and (which provides for the transfer of files between two end systems). 8) Which of the two following protocols is stateful or stateless? HTTP is a.. protocol. FTP is a.. protocol. 9) In a architecture, there is an always-on host, called the, which services requests from many other hosts, called.. 10) In the HTTP protocol, a basic URL has two components: the that houses the object and the object s. For example, the URL has monet.skku.edu for a and /course/homeworkmc20182.jpg for a Problem #2 (30pts). In the P2P Networks lecture notes (in Week 03), the following chord ring was given. There are 5 nodes and 7 keys. In the lecture note P2P networks, an example of node N5 finding the responsible node for key k14 was presented (slide#20). Your task is to present the process of node N10 finding key k22. Your answer must look like the left figure in slide#20, P2P networks lecture notes.
2 Problem #3 (25pts). 1) The figure below is a Kademlia network with 8 nodes and 5 keys. A routing table is given for each node. Now node N1 leaves and node N13 joins the network. Your task is to recalculate the routing table of all the nodes, and find the nodes being responsible for each key. 2) Assume the network has same nodes and keys as in problem#3.1: Nodes N0, N3, N5, N6, N8, N11, N13 and N15; keys k3, k4, k7, k9 and k12. The identifier space has 32 points (m=5). Your task is to redraw the Kademlia network, routing tables and find the nodes responsible for each key.
3 Problem #4 (25pts). What is the difference between the collision detection and collision avoidance? Suppose propagation delay is α, SIFS is α, DIFS is 3α, and RTS and CTS are 5α respectively for CSMA/CA with RTS/CTS. 1) What is the earliest time for the receiver to send the CTS message? 2) If data packet is 100α long, what is the shortest time for the receiver to send the ACK signal? Submission Guidelines: - You must submit a compressed file named MC18-HW1-ID-NAME.zip through icampus (for SKKU Students) or send an to choo.hw.skku@gmail.com (for Kyung Hee students) For example: MC18-HW Lee Taewoo.zip where is student ID and Lee Taewoo is student NAME - Your solution must be written in ENGLISH. Solution written in Korean will NOT be graded. - There will be serious penalty for students who copy each other
