3 General information Kinnex Media Gateway acts as a full-featured client for Lync Server, based on Microsoft technology platform UCMA 4.0. To connect to SIP-equipment and IP-phones, Kinnex Media Gateway uses the powerful and efficient Kinnex VoIP Engine. Developed by Starxoft, Kinnex VoIP Engine handles signaling, encryption, and transcoding media streams. We developed a specific profile for matching the signaling, functions, and creating of configuration files for each model of, or family of IP-phones from different manufacturers. The automatic control system of the IP-phone configuration (Provisioning) interacts with the target hardware via a TFTP server. To automatically obtain the required parameters of the deployed Lync topology, Kinnex Media Gateway requires access to Active Directory, particular services of Lync Server, DNS. 4 Structure of interaction with Lync Server Streams of signaling and media data between components of the Lync Server topology and the equipment can pass in different ways. Transmission of signaling from IP-phones is always operated through Kinnex Media Gateway and then through Lync Server, with the exception of the signaling of additional features that are available only to IP-phones behind Kinnex Media Gateway. For every connection the most optimal route for media stream is defined by the Lync Server configuration (Media Bypass, Call Admission Control, the level of data encryption) and the IP-phone's features. The Kinnex Media Gateway connection with Lync Server is performed in full compliance with the requirements of the security level stated in the Lync Server, which is based on next generation cryptographic libraries (Cryptography API: Next Generation). 5 The Model integration in the Lync Server topology One of the unique features of Kinnex Media Gateway is to install on a dedicated as well as on any existing server of Lync topology, allowing us to create the most flexible and optimal model of integration that depends on the load and the architecture of the existing infrastructure for telephony system. The only strict requirement when installing Kinnex Media Gateway along with the Standard Edition Server or the Mediation Server is an available dedicated IP-address or a network interface on a physical or virtual server. This allows Kinnex Media Gateway to interact with IP-phones. If you deal with a small number of employees, the most optimal configuration of the Lync Server is the Standard Edition Server, which has all necessary services on one server. In this configuration, to improve resource efficiency and serviceability, Kinnex Media Gateway can be installed along with the Standard Edition Server. 6 If your company makes a large number of calls to external phone lines, it increases the load on the Mediation Server. We recommend using a separate server for this role. In this case, you can install the Kinnex Media Gateway with Mediation Server to optimize media streams and decrease the load on the internal network. 7 If you deal with large network with a lot of employees, distributed Lync Server topology, and an increased load on your telephony system, then Kinnex Media Gateway can be installed on a dedicated server. 8 System requirements Basic Kinnex Media Gateway resource consumption occurs due the transcoding and encryption of media streams. If the parameters of the IP-phones and the Lync Server correlate, the CPU and RAM requirements are considerably reduced. 9 Network settings For the correct operation of the IP-phones, for the dedicated IP-address of Kinnex Media Gateway create rules on the firewall enable incoming connections on all ports and protocols listed in Table 3. 11 Supported hardware Kinnex Media Gateway allows you to connect compatible IP-phone models that passed the testing and adjustment of interaction with the Lync Server. For each IP-phone model, a specific profile is created for matching signaling and functions with the Lync Server.
