2 TARANIS MOBILE TARANIS Mobile is a flexible command & control system for networking operational forces from the police, emergency services and civil protection authorities. It can be used not just in stationary control centres but also in vehicles or by individuals on foot. During an operation TARANIS Mobile gives all forces access to a common and real-time situation picture at all times, within a secure, private zone. Within this secure zone you can use TARANIS Mobile to exchange important information such as messages, photos and videos as well as to communicate via group chat. Data is encrypted and transmitted either via a public mobile network or via other communication connections such as digital radio. Automated comparison mechanisms ensure that all connected participants always have a consistent and up-to-date database. Quick & secure networking TARANIS Mobile supports a variety of different communication connections, from HF to UHF, satellite communication, digital radio and mobile service standards. Even with narrowband connections (e.g. those used for VHF devices), the system ensures real-time information transmission between users. TARANIS Mobile guarantees a seamless connection between all participants at all times, as long as one of the supported communication connections is available. However, even if the data connection is disrupted, the affected system will continue to function self-sufficiently and then automatically synchronise its database when it is re-connected. Situation picture TARANIS Mobile gives all participants an overview of the positions of all involved forces at all times on detailed maps. All events and activities in an operation can be inserted into the digital situation map by any participant using simple symbols or tactical signs. These symbols are displayed in nearrealtime on the device of every other participant, who can then edit, move or delete them or view further detailed information. TARANIS Mobile gives users a level-appropriate, real-timecapable, role-specific situation picture based on geolocated data. Intuitive & easy-to-use With its intuitive user interface featuring large buttons and clear display elements, TARANIS Mobile is especially suited for use in time-critical situations in which the user is under considerable stress. All functions are touch-operable (even when wearing gloves); alternatively the system can be operated with a mouse and keyboard e.g. in a control centre. The intuitive operating concept enables technically less-experienced users to work independently with TARANIS Mobile after just a short training period. Data security Data distribution and provisioning is encrypted and uses your own servers or servers from a trustworthy organisation. The end devices and communication can also be ruggedised using off-the-shelf security solutions. Operational evaluation For post-operation evaluation TARANIS Mobile protocols the operation with all details, thus enabling it to be documented in a way that will later stand up in court. Afterwards the operation can be reconstructed stepby-step and also fast-forwarded or rewound like in a video recording. This enables a detailed evaluation of the operation, as it is evident at all times who in which position had which information. 3 TARANIS MOBILE MODULES Operating concept & basic functions Communication Map Situation The TARANIS Mobile operating concept is designed for use either completely via touchscreen or with a mouse and keyboard. The intuitive user interface, with large buttons and easy-to-read display elements, is independent from the hardware used. Relevant information and alternative courses of action are clearly displayed. Green, yellow and red colour-coding and symbols are used specifically to aid the user. TARANIS Mobile has numerous basic functions, such as a clearly designed control centre allowing continuous status monitoring of the most important functions, including all exchanged messages. The communication module enables you connect any number of system devices to each other. A wide range of communication channels are supported, including mobile services, UHF, VHF, HF, IP radio devices, LAN, WLAN and satellite communications (BGAN and Mini-M). The module is designed to provide flexibility, security and fast data transmission. The map module enables you to use a wide range of map formats such as PCMap, GeoTiff, CADRG, OSM, VMap, aerial or satellite images within TARANIS Mobile. All map data can be moved around and zoomed in and out easily with multi-touch gestures. The map module also includes extensive map and terrain calculation functions, including distance, different surface calculations, shading and terrain section. The situation module allows the user to display operationally relevant information graphically on the TARANIS Mobile digital map. Use the symbol generator to create your own situation symbols and organise and save them into customisable symbol palettes. The situation module offers even more useful features such as a superimposable overview map, layers with different information content, automatic separation of overlapping symbols and freehand drawing directly on the map.

4 TARANIS MOBILE MODULES Action Forces Messages Chat SOS With the TARANIS Mobile action forces module all participants right up to operation command can keep track of the positions of all forces involved in the operation. The module gives users a round-theclock, level-appropriate, realtime-capable, role-specific situation picture based on geolocated situation symbols. Create forms and messages with the message module for highly efficient transmission using the communication module. Examples of formatted messages include: } Short messages } Personal descriptions } Object descriptions Photos, videos or other documents can be attached to the messages. TARANIS Mobile features an optional integrated chat module that allows synchronous, text-oriented communication in individual or group settings. Users can communicate with individual participants via text chat or open their own chat rooms and invite any number of participants. Users receive detailed status information on all outgoing chat messages. With the SOS module, users can transmit their current position and send an SOS signal to all fellow forces at the touch of a button. The other participants are notified of the distress call through visual and audible alerts. In conjunction with the map and situation modules, the position of the SOS sender is centred on the map with his/her symbol highlighted. The SOS can also be easily cancelled at the touch of a button.

5 Navigation Track Recording Visibility Calculation Radio Coverage Calculation TARANIS Mobile can be equipped with a navigation module that enables users to track their own position and direction of movement on the map at all times. TARANIS Mobile supports a variety of GPS devices and navigation systems for this purpose. Navigation and routing can be based on waypoints. These routes can be exported/imported or sent by the system or placed on the map directly by the user. Instead of the map, the driver can also view a large digital compass rose during the journey to make navigation easier, especially in poorly marked or offroad terrain. With the track recording module, TARANIS Mobile can record, modify and import/export complete route information during the journey. Even while recording is in progress, the user can categorise the route travelled, i.e. assign it various parameters, such as condition, width, surface etc. Recorded tracks can be saved, sent to other systems or exported for other users to use later for navigation. With the visibility calculation module, users can see visible/non-visible terrain sections in near-realtime from any position. The calculation is so efficient that a dynamic display is also possible while objects are moving. With the radio coverage calculation module, users can see probable radio signal coverage in near-realtime from any position. The parameters, antenna height and frequency are configurable.

6 TARANIS MOBILE MODULES Decision Support Action Force Management Operation Assessment Interfaces The decision support module helps the operation command to assign forces quickly and efficiently to reported situations. The situations can be automatically prioritised according to various criteria (e.g. type such as GESB and traffic accident or location). The system then makes an assignment recommendation based on the distribution and suitability of the available forces for the particular situation. The action force management module helps the user to, for example, control and coordinate precision marksmen. Operation command can assign targets to individual precision marksmen and sees an overview of the procedure graphically as a workflow. This enables him to read status information such as target engaged or no target and to issue the command to shoot. The operation assessment module can record and then replay all data communications with the system. The playback mode enables you to replay the operation, jump to any point and quickly fast-forward and rewind. Thus, during operation debriefings, you can show precisely which information was available at what point of time and how forces were deployed. With its service-oriented architecture, TARANIS Mobile offers the necessary services for all modules. The interface module also allows quick and easy connection to external systems via XML or integration of proprietary external system interfaces. The workflows are flexible and can thus easily be adapted and transferred.

7 Office Integration Time Monitoring Simulation & Training With the office module you can integrate any office suite (OpenOffice, MS Office etc.). Created files can be distributed over tactical radio networks using the communication module. With the time monitoring module users can perform various time measurements or activate alarms using the alarm clock, countdown or stopwatch functions. These functions can even be used simultaneously. Other modules can also access these functions and, for example, automatically initiate a countdown. The simulation and training module enables TARANIS Mobile to be connected to other constructive, interactive and virtual simulation systems. Users can, for example, practise or train using TARANIS Mobile by simulating other participants or even entire command levels within their system network.
