5 th China Cloud Computing Conference 2013 Evolution of Inter-Cloud Computing to Handle Big Data June 7, 2013 Tomonori Aoyama Chair of GICTF Keio University
What is Inter-cloud? Inter-cloud computing allows on-demand reassignment of cloud resources including compute, storage and network, and transfer of workload through interworking of multinational and multi-operator cloud systems.
Evolution of Cloud Computing From Single Cloud to Hybrid Cloud, which is a connection between Public and Private Cloud, and then to global Inter-Cloud Computing Single Cloud(~2010) Hybrid Cloud (2011~) Inter Cloud (2015~ ) Government Organization Private Cloud Big Company Public Cloud SaaS/PaaS クラウド Provider General User Small Company Government Organization Private Cloud Big Company Public Cloud SaaS/PaaS クラウド Provider General User Small Company Private Cloud Public Cloud Network Public Cloud Private Cloud T. AOYAMA 3
Why? Three Data require Inter-Cloud 1. Big Data More than Zetta Byte Data are being produced. Enterprise Data, Video Data, Sensor Data, 2.Open Data Open Data Policy Personal Number Law (Japan) was approved. 3.Personal Data Medical Welfare Cloud for EHR & PHR My hospital anywhere is targeted. (Japan) I N T E R C L O U D
Annual global IP traffic will pass the zettabyte threshold by the end of 2016, Internet Video Will Drive Most Consumer Internet Traffic Through ftp P2P Video Web Sources: Cisco estimates based on CAIDA publications, Andrew Odlyzko 54% Internet video (86%, the sum of all forms of video (TV, VoD, Internet, and P2P) ) Sources: 5/ns827/VNI_Hyperconnectivity_WP.html T. Aoyama 5
Use case 1: Guaranteeing performance against an abrupt increase of the load Service consumer Avoid additional delay caused by the increased load by means of alternating data for access point to other cloud provider Service 2 Numerou s access attempts Internet Exchange data such as ID information of consumer Abrupt increase in the number of access attempts Lease the required quantity of resources from the community cloud overload Service 1 Provider X Network Distribute the load on the own servers to outside the own cloud system Service 1 Provider Y: Community cloud Return the processing to the original cloud system when load distribution becomes unnecessary
Use case 2 : Disaster Recovery Select a cloud system to be used for service recovery through negotiation with other cloud systems Remotely activate the application for Service 2 (some quality requirements are satisfied on a best-effort basis) Service 2 AP MW Cloud B Service X Service 2 Service 2 Disaster Service 1 Cloud A DBs are copied and synchronized in advance Service 1/2 Service user GICTF Service 1 DB DB AP MW Cloud D Remotely activate the Service 1 application for Service 1 (to guarantee the required quality) Service Y Cloud C Continue to provide services by recovering each service of Cloud A by using a cloud system other than that of Cloud A 7
