Suppose we port the client to a rev0 mobile Keep vocoder, call models, etc. The result is a step backwards from 1xRTT No QoS results in choppy speech or worse during heavy traffic 1xRTT uses FCH as a proxy QoS guarantee High minimum data rate can cause inefficiency RevA is required to allow to match 1xRTT Of course reva allows PTT to surpass 1X implementation too 10

12 Basic PTT on RevA Port the PTT client to a reva handset Make initial enhancements: Request QoS suitable for PTT voice quality E.g. Pick a FlowProfileID If reservation is granted, proceed with call If not Hand down to 1xRTT if available Deny call if no 1x or reva service in a cell Use same vocoder and packetization as 1x solution 1x/RevA Interop enables smooth transition to reva; no users or handsets stranded 12
13 Performance Enhancements Call Setup Latency Reduction RevA enables higher bandwidth signaling Use separate MFPA or EMFPA flow for signaling Reserve a higher data rate RevA enhanced idle state activation Brings TCH active quicker on OM RevA sub synchronous channel Quicker paging and activation of TM TCH RevA Data Over Signaling (DOS) Allows PTT app to use the RAN control plane for near instant communication between OM, PTT server, and TM Requires very short app control plane messages 13

20 Extending Group Call Capacity Many users can be located in the same cell sector Emergency site Enterprise; e.g. office building This limits group call size to available channels, unless PTT utilizing reva Broadcast Multicast Service (BCMCS) breaks this barrier Forward talk spurts go on BCMCS multicast channel Group size can go as high as BCMCS limit Radio efficiency is improved 20
