Received: 10/11/2016, Revised: 21/12/2016 and Accepted: 03/01/2017 Abstract The goal of this project is to control and monitor home appliances using android application over internet. There are number of commercial home automation systems available in market.with the rapid increase in the number of users of internet over the past decade has made Internet a part and parcel of life, and IoT is the latest and emerging internet technology. Therefore, home appliances can individually be controlled both from within the home and remotely. This is very helpful to physically challenged people and old aged people. We may get the status of our home appliances from our android mobile phone. The System transmits an alert signal to the Open source cloud which provides a alert signal on the users mobile phone. I. INTRODUCTION Today we are living in 21st century where automation is playing an important role in human life. Home automation allows us to control household appliances like light, door, fan, AC etc. It also provides home security and emergency system to be activated. Home automation not only refersto reducing human efforts but also energy efficiency and time saving. The main objective of home automation and security system is to control home appliances by using different techniques like android application, web pages when a person is away from home. The system alerts the person in case a burglar enters the house by sending SMS on person s mobile phone which will enable them to protect their home from burglars. The system also helps old people by controlling home appliances with the help of their mobile phones as they do not need to go to different locations for turning the appliance ON or OFF. CC3200 launchpad WORKING In CC3200 launchpad is interfaced with the sensor in order to control the fan, light and camera is fitted into it.at first the application is connected with Wi-Fi module s IP address and then the characters are sending to the cc3200 launchpad through Wi-Fi module.after that the power supply is connected to it.the message transfer from Wi-Fi to server.through the server message will be send to laptop /mobile phone.after receving message to user, the user will control the device from anywhere.main purpose of home automation system is to provide ease to people to control homeappliances with the help of the android application present in their mobile phones and to saveelectricity, time and money. This system also helps the user to protect their homes from thieves,when they are away from the home the thieves tries to enter the house and the person will receive a message on his mobile phone. Connect the CC3200-LAUNCHXL to the PC using the provided micro- USB cable. CC3200-LAUNCHXL is visible in the Device Manager note the COM port number that appears. The example shown here is Getting Started with WLAN Station, and performs the following functions: 1. Program restores WLAN configuration to factory default. 2. Switches to Station mode if the device is in AP mode. 3. Connects to the user's Access Point (default SSID is 'cc3200demo ). If the connection to the AP is successful, the red LED (D7) switches on. 4. Pings the user's AP. If the ping test is successful, the green LED (D5) switches on. 5. Pings to to check Internet connectivity. If the ping test is successful, the orange LED (D6) switches on. 2

4 2.Select Browse button in the Import CCS Eclipse Projects dialog, and Select directory C:\TI\CC3200SDK_1.2.0\cc3200-sdk. Fig:4. 5 8. Select ti_rtos configuration for oslib project and build it. 9. Open the common.h file located at the path C:\TI\CC3200SDK_1.2.0\cc3200-sdk\example\common\. 10. Edit common.h to use the SSID, security type, and security key of the AP. Edit the macros SSID_NAME, SECURITY_TYPE, and SECURITY_KEY to contain the AP information as shown in figure. The security types supported for this demo are WPA/WPA2 and Open. For Open security, define SECURITY_TYPE as SL_SEC_TYPE_OPEN. For WPA and WPA2security, define as SL_SEC_TYPE_WPA. Alternatively, the SSID and security of the AP can be changed to match thedefault (SSID: cc3200demo, Security: Open). For the SSID_NAME and SECURITY_KEY, the quotation marks must remain as part of the macro definition. 11. Save common.h. 12. Select the wlan_station project and build it. 13. The target configuration must be set before debugging from CCS. Navigate to View>Target Configurations. Fig:6. Target Configurations 12. Navigate to View>Target Configurations. 13.Right-click on User Defined, select Import Target Configuration and select file CC3200.ccxml from C:\TI\CC3200SDK_1.2.0\cc3200sdk\tools\ccs_patch\. Select the Copy files option when prompted. 14. Set this new configuration as the default by right-clicking on the file name 5

6 15. Launch Tera Term, and create a new serial connection to the CC3200 Launchpad COM port 16. In the menu, select Setup>Serial Port, and change the baud rate to Launch application: select wlan_station project in Project Explorer, then click the debug icon and to download code to the device and begin debugging. Press F8 to begin execution 18. If the CC3200 successfully completes all steps, the serial output appears. METHODOLOGY AP mode connect to device from any Smartphone / tablet and configure using phone UI. Industry most common provisioning method. WPS Requires both AP support and physical access to the product. Industry standard Smart Config TI Propriety method.one step and secure configuration. Works for most network topologies, and can be used to supplement AP mode or WPS. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT Main purpose of home automation system is to provide ease for people to control home appliances with the help of the android application present in their mobile phones and to save electricity, time and money. This system also helps the user to protect their homes from thieves,when they are away from the home the thieves tries to enter the house and the person will receive a message on his mobile phone. CONCLUSION The home automation using Internet of Things has been experimentally proven to work satisfactorily by connecting simple appliances to it and the appliances were successfully controlled remotely through internet.
