4 1. Introduction Inovia s B-FOCuS Bridge 270 is a powerful compact-sized ADSL bridge, designed for home user ADSL Internet access. This top quality product is packed with features such as: VLAN transparency for joining a virtual LAN network. Password-protected Web management interface for easy configuration and upgrade. Built-in dying gasp support for loop status detection. 8 ATM virtual connections enabling multi-service applications. (7 ATM connections can be used for applications, and one ATM connection is reserved for remote management via Telnet). 2. B-FOCuS Bridge 270 Configuration The B-FOCuS Bridge 270 has a built-in Web user interface, accessed via its Ethernet port, which is connected to a PC. The modem user interface enables the following operations to be performed: Modem configuration. Software upgrade. Viewing modem properties and statistics Opening a Browser Connection 1. Connect the B-FOCuS Bridge 270 Ethernet port to your PC Ethernet port using a standard Ethernet cable. 2. From your PC, open up Control Panel/Network and Dial-up Connections. 3. Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties. 4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. 5. Select Use the following IP address and then type the IP address: In the Subnet mask box, type: Click OK. 1

5 The information should appear as it does in the dialog box below: 8. Open your Web browser and type the modem IP address, in the Address field. 9. To enter the modem configuration interface, type admin in the User name box. In the Password box, type xdsl*1234. Note: Remove the proxy setting in your browser, otherwise you will not be able to access the modem user interface. 2

6 2.2. Home page The home page contains the Quick Setup and System Utility Quick Setup Menu The Quick Setup menu enables you to set modem configuration parameters. In the Quick Setup Menu, you can configure the Modem operation mode, LAN parameters, and the Supervisor log in ID and password. 1. To make changes to the modem settings, type the new information in the appropriate field(s) and then click Apply. 3

7 2. Confirm that the new parameters are correct and then click OK. 3. To save the new settings, click Save. The modem will restart with the new configuration. OR To restart the modem without saving the new settings, click Restart. 4

8 During the Reboot process, the modem will display the window below. At the end of the process, the modem will return to the Home page Quick Setup ATM VC Configuration The ATM VC Quick Setup window enables you to change VC parameters. 1. To open the ATM VC menu, click the ATM VC link on the left menu bar. 5

9 2. To modify the ATM connection settings, select the VC that you want to change in the Index column, on the left side, and then click Modify. 3. Define the required settings and then click OK. 6

To save your setting(s), click the Save & Restart link on the left menu bar and then click Save System Utility Menu The System Utility menu includes information and statistics about the modem and enables you to upgrade the modem software and save or reset modem configuration parameters. It contains the following functions: General System Information Status and Statistics Software Upgrade Reset to default Restart System 7

11 General System Information Menu The General System Information menu provides information on the modem software and hardware versions Status and Statistics Menu 8

12 ADSL Status Information Below is a description of each parameter and its settings. HW Status Hardware status is the DSL Eagle chipset boot test status. OK: The DSL chipset is working properly. FAIL: The DSL chipset was not properly initialized. To correct, reset the modem. If the result is still FAIL, the DSL chipset is damaged. SW Status Software status shows the DSL loop status. IDLE: The CPE is ready to be synchronized and waiting for the CO s acknowledgement. INITIALIZATION: The CPE is in the process of synchronization with the CO. OPERATIONAL: The CPE is synchronized with the CO. FAIL: The synchronization is lost. The status will be FAIL for approximately three seconds and then return to IDLE. If the status is FAIL continuously, there is a problem with the modem. Chip Initialization Chip initialization indicates the chipset status. SUCCESSFUL: Working properly. CRCx Error: There are traffic errors and error status in the chipset. Link Type The Link type indicates the ADSL line link type that is set by the CO. INTERLEAVE: Interleave mode. FAST: Fast mode. 9

13 SNR Margin The possible values are This indicates the current Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) margin. The current ratio of received signal level to received noise level (Signal level/received noise level), is expressed in dbs. A higher SNR ratio indicates a better channel performance. DSL Indication This is the DSL link indicator. Possible values: LOS: Loss of signal. LOF: Loss of frame. LOP: Loss of power. F-CRC: CRC error in Fast link type. I-CRC: CRC error in Interleave link type. F-HEC: Header error check in Fast link type. I-HEC: Header error check in Interleave link type. Settings This is the ADSL modem operation mode setup. Running mode This is the current ADSL operation mode. ES/LOS/LOF ES: Errored Seconds - the number of errors per second (block CRC error). LOS: Loss of signal indicator. LOF: Loss of frame indicator. 10

14 Software Upgrade 1. To upgrade the modem software, click Browse and choose the new modem software file that you want to load. Note: The file type must be.bin. 2. Once the correct file has been selected, click Upgrade. The upgrade process will take approximately two minutes. During the upgrade process, do not disconnect any of the modem cables or shut down the modem power as this might damage the modem Reset to Default This menu enables you to reset the modem to the manufacturer s configuration default values. 11
