1 Datasheet Nanospark: CNC Machine Monitor The Nanospark: CNC Machine Monitor is a simple to install and easy to use monitoring system for production machinery. Nanospark's monitoring system has two main components, the Nanospark hardware and the CNC Machine Monitor app. The hardware wires in parallel with the CNC machine controls to enable Nanospark's app to see the status of machine components. The app monitors the hardware inputs for situations you've configured it to watch for and notifies you by or text message when appropriate. 6 INSTALLATION Materials - Nanospark: CNC Machine Monitor system (of course) - Screwdriver, small flat head and small Phillips - Wire, AWG - Wire cutter/stripper We recommend that a machine service professional install your Nanospark: CNC Machine Monitoring system. Wiring Nanospark to your machine controls 1. Turn the CNC machine off. 2. Open the electrical cabinet. 3. Locate the wire or input on the boss which carries the signal you want to monitor. 4. Place a wire in parallel from the input to a Nanospark input. -Repeat steps 3-4 for all the machine components you want to monitor. 5. Mount the Nanospark device and 7 tablet in a convenient location. - In our tests, the system worked well even with the tablet placed in the electrical cabinet of the machine. 6. 7 TROUBLESHOOTING 1. I didn't get my notification A. Is the tablet connected to a WiFi network? i) No. Go to tablet Settings-WIFI to ensure: Tablet's WiFi is on Network and SID is correct B. Is the app is running on the tablet? i) No. Touch the app icon to launch app. You'll see both the app full screen and the icon in the tablet notification bar (to the far left of the clock and battery). C. Is the hardware is connected to the tablet by the USB cable? i) No. Plug USB cable from hardware into tablet. D. Is the hardware powered i) No. See 2A E. Is the hardware wired to the machine component? i) See 3B F. Is the contact information correct? i) No. Correct supplied information. *Suggestion: when setting up a contact use the test button to confirm correct info. G. Are date and time constraints for the notification correct? i) No. Either change the constraints or wait until you're within the appropriate time range to receive message. H. Change SMS service. Under Settings-Menu-About, tap the upper left corner of the About box. A new pop-up will appear The box will indicate with a radio button which SMS service (A or B) is active. Touch the other service to select. Touch OK. 2. The tablet doesn't see the hardware A. Is the hardware powered? i) No. Plug the hardware into a 120/240 VAC power source using the supplied power adapter. B. Is the USB cable plugged into both the tablet and the hardware? i) No. Plug the USB cable into the tablet. ii) Still No. Remove the hardware top cover and confirm the red USB cable is plugged into the black control board Confirm the black USB cable and red USB cable are connected (you can see the connection under the adapter board. -7(715) Bartlett Ave, Altoona, WI info@nanospark.com

8 TROUBLESHOOTING C. Reboot tablet i) After steps 1 and 2 are confirmed 3. App doesn't see wired component status A. Is the hardware powered? i) See 2A B. Does the hardware recognize the status of the input? Confirm by seeing LED corresponding to the hardware input wired in parallel with machine component being lit/not-lit according to component being on/off. i) No: Check wire, is it in the correct machine control panel input (or spliced into the correct wire) and Nanospark input? Is machine ground connected to Nanospark GND? C. Is machine ground also wired in parallel with the hardware? i) No. Wire machine ground to Nanospark hardware GND ii) Yes. Which Nanospark GND? Inputs 1-4 are tied to the first GND, 5-8 to the second. Resolve by moving the inputs or machine ground wires accordingly or by bridging both Nanospark GNDs. D. Is the correct input on the machine control panel wired to the hardware? i) If unsure consult machine manual -8(715) Bartlett Ave, Altoona, WI info@nanospark.com

9 FAILURE MODES 1. App shut down A. If you see the monitor icon in the notification bar, the monitor is active even if another app is currently on top. B. In case of hardware disconnect, the app monitor service remains active waiting for reconnect and tracking the time that it's disconnected. C. Only ways to shut down the app are: Settings - Apps - Nanospark: CNC Macine Monitor - Force Stop Reboot tablet Use a kill app/service app USB disconnected A. App will notify of disconnection by toast message, recording disconnection on log, ing user and Nanospark if not reconnected within a short time. Also disconnection and non-monitored time will be noted on any reports for that time frame. B. Make sure a contact is setup for the disconnect notification to speed troubleshooting. Power Outage A. App will run on battery until tablet auto shuts down at 1% battery. B. If tablet battery runs out, it will need to be recharged to at least 50% before monitoring can effectively resume. This is due to the extra current draw over the USB cable during a boost charge scenario; it interferes with the board's connection to the tablet. C. If power outages are a regular concern, you may wish to put your WiFi system (modem, router(s) and any switches) on a battery backup. The battery backup should maintain the system for a minimum of 35 minutes. The power outage will be seen by the app as a board disconnect which will initiate the two-tiered disconnect alert in the appeffectively informing you of the outage. Wifi Down A. The app will continue to monitor the machine, but will be unable to send messages by SMS or B. If a message cannot be sent, the app will continue trying to send it over the course of about hours from the original message send time. C.
