Specific warnings and cautions appear throughout the manual where they apply. Please read and follow this important information, especially those instructions related to the risk of electric shock or injury to persons. Warning: Any instructions in this manual that require opening the equipment cover or enclosure are for use by qualified service personnel only. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not perform any service other than that contained in the operating instructions unless you are qualified to do so. Symbols and Their Meanings The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within an equilateral triangle alerts the user to the presence of dangerous voltages within the product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle alerts the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance/service instructions. The Ground symbol represents a protective grounding terminal. Such a terminal must be connected to earth ground prior to making any other connections to the equipment. The fuse symbol indicates that the fuse referenced in the text must be replaced with one having the ratings indicated. The presence of this symbol in or on NVISION equipment means that it has been designed, tested and certified as complying with applicable Underwriter's Laboratory (USA) regulations and recommendations. The presence of this symbol in or on NVISION equipment means that it has been designed, tested and certified as essentially complying with all applicable European Union (CE) regulations and recommendations. 13 Section 1: System Descriptions This manual describes the NV6064, NV6128, NV6256, and NV8256 routers. Other routers in the ENVOY series, such as the NV6904 and the NV7256, are described in separate manuals. This section covers the following topics: Contents Page INTRODUCTION NV6064 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NV6064 Front Panel NV6064 Rear Panel NV6064 Specifications NV6128 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NV6128 Front Panel NV6128 Specifications NV6256 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NV6256 Electronics Frame Front Panel NV6256 Electronics Frame Rear Panel NV6256 Specifications NV8256 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NV8256 Electronics Frame Front Panel NV8256 Electronics Frame Rear Panel NV8256 Specifications CONTROL CONNECTORS (ALL MODELS) DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTORS (ALL MODELS) ALARMS CONNECTOR (ALL MODELS) POWER SUPPLY ALARMS CONNECTOR (6064/6128) POWER SUPPLY ALARMS CONNECTOR (6256/8256) Page 1-1
14 INTRODUCTION NVISION manufactures the 6000 and 8000 Series ENVOY Universal Digital Routers. Each router, identified below, combines compact frame size (with optional redundant power supplies) and the capability of managing a wide range of signal formats. NV6064 provides up to 64 x 64 Inputs and Outputs with dual outputs. NV6128 provides up to 128 x 128 Inputs and Outputs with dual outputs. NV6256 provides up to 256 Inputs and 128 Outputs with dual outputs. NV8256 provides up to 256 x 256 Inputs and Outputs with single outputs. Designed around a novel high speed crosspoint architecture, each router can handle data rates from 3 Megabits per second to more than 1.5 Gigabits per second. We call this capability Super Wideband (SWB). The crosspoint structure is combined with SDI or SWB input/output modules to accommodate SDI and/or SWB data rates within the same frame, at the same time. With unique equalizers, reclockers, and cable drivers, the router passes pathological signals at both SDI and HD-SDI data rates. No signal inversion of the primary outputs takes place, which is essential for systems handling DVB-ASI data streams since DVB- ASI is 8B/10B coded and cannot be inverted. Secondary outputs are inverted. Input and output modules are available for SDI (143, 177, 270, and 360 Mbits) and Super Wideband (3 Mbits/sec to 1.5 Gbits) data rates. Dual output connectors for each destination minimize DA requirements on 6000 Series routers. Expandable in increments of 8 Inputs or Outputs (and 16 Inputs or Outputs on the 8256), combined with the ability to control a router from an existing control system, the router provides the user with tremendous flexibility. The modules load through the front and can be hot swapped (no need to power down the frame). Figure 1-1 shows simplified block diagrams of the 6000 and 8000 Series ENVOY routers. Page 1-2
