CHAPTER 1 PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION CHOOSING A LOCATION A T40+ pass-thru system library must be installed in a 4-post rack. A standard EIA-310 rack is recommended. Each T40 library uses 4 units (4U) of rack space. Follow these guidelines when choosing an appropriate installation location. Select an appropriate operating temperature environment. The maximum recommended ambient temperature for the StorageLibrary T40+ Series is 40 C (104 F). Install the appliance in an environment compatible with this temperature limit. Allow for proper ventilation and space. Make sure the location is in a clean, dust-free area. Use a ventilated rack to ensure the library receives adequate air flow. Leave a minimum of 60 cm (24 inches) of unobstructed space around the front and back of the library to allow for operating and maintaining the library. Select an appropriate power source. Place the library near a grounded power outlet (110V/220V). Plug the library s two power cords into a high-quality power strip that offers protection from electrical noise and power surges. An uninterupptable power supply is recommended. Ensure that the work area is free from conditions that could cause electrostatic discharge (ESD). Discharge static electricity from your body by touching a known grounded surface, such as a computer s metal chassis. OBTAINING TOOLS Obtain the following items to install the library in a rack: Phillips screwdriver Small, flat-head screwdriver (or similar object) Tape measure GATHERING NETWORK INFORMATION The StorageLibrary T40+ Series supports both static and dynamic (DCHP) IP addressing. For pass-thru configurations, Tandberg Data recommends that you use static IP addresses to prevent any inadvertent address changes to the libraries. (If the IP addresses change dynamically, you will have to reconfigure the pass-thru system.) Gather the following information for each T40 library (the Master unit and any Add-on units): A valid, unique, static IP address Network mask Default gateway address 2 INSTALLATION GUIDE

Review Figure 2-1 on page 10 for correct rack rail placement and Figure 2-6 on page 14 to make sure you have removed the correct pass-thru cover plates for each library. OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 7

CHAPTER 2 RACKMOUNTING THE LIBRARY The StorageLibrary T40+ Series library is designed for installation in a standard 4-post rack. The rack that you use must adhere to one of the following standards: EIA-310, CEA-310, or IEC Each stackable T40 library uses four units (4U) of rack space. Before you begin, make sure you review the Choosing a Location and Obtaining Tools sections on page 2. The rackmount kit contains the following items: Rackmount Item What the item is used for 8 flat-head M3x4 mm screws To attach the mounting ears to the library 2 M6x12 mm pan-head screws 8 M6x12 mm flat-head screws To secure the mounting ears to the rack. Note: These screws are shipped attached to the rails. To attach the rails to the front and back of the rack. Note: These screws are shipped attached to the rails. 4 mounting template labels To ensure the correct hole-set location for attaching the rack rails, because rack holes are not evenly spaced on a standard rack. 2 rack rails To mount to the rack. 2 mounting ears To attach to the front of the library and secure the library into the rack. PREPARING THE RACK RAILS 1. Remove the mounting screws that are attached to the front and back of each rail. Set them aside. back mounting screws front mounting screws Back of Rail Front of Rail 2. If necessary, adjust the rail length (see page 9). 8 INSTALLATION GUIDE

ADJUSTING THE RAILS (IF NECESSARY) 1. Measure the inside distance from the front mounting holes to the back mounting holes on one side of your rack. 2. From the inside of the rail, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that secure the side rail assembly hardware, which consists of a plastic washer, a star washer and nut. Remove the assembly hardware and set it aside. Rail assembly hardware Note: The rails are measured to a standard rack depth at the factory. If you need to adjust the rail, you will need to remove one or both sets of screws. 3. Adjust the rail length to the same distance as the rack depth, which you measured in step From the inside of the rail, thread the rail screws through the rail in corresponding sets as shown in the next figure. If you removed both sets of rail assembly hardware, be sure to replace the hardware far enough apart to stabilize the rail. 5. Thread a plastic washer, a star washer and nut onto each screw from the outside of the rail. Tighten the screw from the inside of the rail. Do not tighten the screws completely. Securing the hardware far apart provides better rail stability. OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 9

CHAPTER 2 RACKMOUNTING THE LIBRARY DETERMINING CORRECT RAIL PLACEMENT To determine correct rail placement, use the mounting template labels that are included in your accessory kit and follow these guidelines: The holes in a standard 4-post rack are vertically spaced in a repeating pattern of three holes. This pattern equates to spacing for one rack unit (1U). Each 1U-hole pattern is separated by 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) (see Figure 2-1). Note: In some standard racks, there is not a middle hole. In this case, only two holes (the top and bottom) exist in the 1U-pattern. The bottom hole of the T40+ rail must align with the bottom hole in a 1U-pattern set. If you align the bottom rail home with either the middle or top hole of the 1U-pattern, the pass-thru system will fail (see Important below).! Important If you are installing a T40+ pass-thru library, it s crucial that the rack rails are attached to the correct set of rack post holes. If the rails are mounted incorrectly for the Master unit, the subsequent Add-on unit cannot be rackmounted flush against the top of the Master unit. If there is even a 3 mm gap between the Master and Add-on unit, the pass-thru mechanism will malfunction. 12.7mm/ mm/.625 7" U, T mm/ U Figure 2-1 rack post T40+ mounting template Standard rack hole spacing Rail delivered with T40+ library 10 INSTALLATION GUIDE

! Important If your rack does not follow the spacing pattern shown in Figure 2-1, it is non-standard 19 rack, and you cannot use it to assemble the T40+ library in a stacked configuration (T80, T120, T160, or T200). ATTACHING THE RAILS FOR A STANDALONE (OR MASTER) LIBRARY To attach the rails to the rack: 1. Peel the template label from its adhesive backing. 2. Place the template label on one of the front rack posts. Make sure that you align the bottom template hole with a bottom hole in a 1U-rack pattern as described in Determining Correct Rail Placement on page Place a template label on the other front rack post, making sure that you position the bottom marker hole at the same vertical distance as the previous label. Figure 2-2 Placing the template label on the rack post! Important If you cannot see the entire hole marker through each rack post hole, you did not align the bottom rail hole with a bottom hole in a in a 1U-rack pattern (see Figure 2-1). OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 11

CHAPTER 2 RACKMOUNTING THE LIBRARY 4. Orient the rail so that the rail shelf is facing the inside of the rack. 5. Place the rail behind the rack flange so that the bottom hole on the rail aligns with the bottom hole of the template label (see Figure 2-1 on page 10). 6. Thread two of the M6x12 mm flat-head screws (that you set aside in Preparing the Rack Rails on page 8) through the bottom and middle rail holes.! Important Make sure you use the supplied flat-head screws to attach the rail. The screws are designed to center the rail properly in the rack. top rail hole is reserved for the library mounting ear middle rail hole bottom rail hole Figure 2-3 Correct screw placement in rack 7. Use the mounting template labels to line up the rail with the back placement holes in the rack. Secure the rail with the remaining two M6x12 mm flat-head screws. Figure 2-4 Attaching the rail to the rack 8. If necessary, adjust the rail so that it fits snugly into the rack. Tighten the two sets of rail screws to prevent the rail from sliding. 9. Repeat the above steps for the opposite rack rail. 12 INSTALLATION GUIDE

ATTACHING THE RAILS FOR ADD-ON LIBRARIES Note: If you have a standalone T40 library, skip this section. 1. See page 4 for cable specifications. 24 INSTALLATION GUIDE

CONNECTING SAS TAPE DRIVE CABLES To connect the SAS tape drive cables: 1. Connect one end of a SAS cable to the SAS port on each tape drive, as shown. 2. Connect the other end of the SAS cable to the host server. Note: SAS cables are not supplied with the StorageLibrary T40+ Series. Obtain your own SAS cables from a qualified vendor. See page 5 for cable specifications. CONNECTING SCSI TAPE DRIVE CABLES Before you connect the SCSI cables from the library to the host server, follow these guidelines: Guidelines for connecting to SCSI Verify that an Ultra 320 non-raid SCSI host bus adapter card is installed on the host server. Verify HBA communication with the host operating system before you connect the SCSI cables from the library. Refer to your HBA vendor documentation on how to verify communication with the host. Do not exceed SCSI bus length restrictions. The maximum allowable length of an Ultra 320 LVD SCSI bus is 19.7 feet (6 meters) of external cable length. Make sure the SCSI bus attached to the tape drive does not exceed this length. We recommend that you daisy chain no more than two LTO Ultra 320 SCSI tape drives per SCSI channel. After connecting the SCSI cables, make sure each SCSI bus is terminated before you turn the power on to the library. OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 25

CHAPTER 3 INSTALLING THE LIBRARY To connect the SCSI tape drive cables: 1. For each tape drive, connect one end of the Ultra 320 SCSI cable to the host server and the other end to the SCSI connector on the tape drive. SCSI terminator goes here 2. Terminate each tape drive with a SCSI terminator. CONNECTING THE POWER TO THE LIBRARY To connect the power cables for one or more libraries: 1. Connect the two power cords that are appropriate to your geographic region into the back of the library. power 1 power 2 source source Note: Two power cords are recommended for redundant power. However, if you choose to use only one power source, plug the cord into Power 1 source. 2. Plug the power cords into an uninterruptable, surge-protected power source. 3. Turn on the power from the back panel of the library. Note: If you are using both power sources, turn on the switch to the Power 1 source first, then turn on the switch to the Power 2 source. The library performs a sequence of diagnostic tests called Power On Self Tests (POST). After the POST sequence, the library completes an Inventory sequence. 26 INSTALLATION GUIDE

4 CONFIGURING THE LIBRARY Applicable to T40 Standalone? After installing the library hardware, you are ready to use the library s Setup Wizard to set the initial configuration options. If you have a Tandberg Data T80, T120,T160, or T200 system, you must configure the pass-thru setup before the system can function properly. For initial configurations, Tandberg Data recommends you use the library s Front Panel Interface. These instructions explain how to configure the library using the library s Front Panel Interface. 35 RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES FOR CONFIGURING PASS-THRU SYSTEMS Note: If you have a standalone T40 library, skip this section.! Important If Before you begin, verify that the Master library (the library at the bottom of the stack) has a tape drive installed. The initialization setup cannot be completed without a drive installed in the Master library. You must complete the Setup Wizard configuration process for the Master library and for each Add-on library. Read the following recommended guidelines before you begin. RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES Configure the upper-most Add-on library first and work your way down to the Master library. Always configure the Master library last. Assign static IP addresses to all of the libraries in the pass-thru system. Static mode is recommended to prevent any inadvertent address changes to the library. (If the IP addresses change dynamically, you will have to reconfigure the pass-thru system.) Assign IP addresses in a meaningful order. For example, assign for the Master library, for Add-on library 2, for Add-on library 3, and so on. Write down the IP addresses for each Add-on library to refer to when you must enter these addresses during the pass-thru setup for the Master library. CONFIGURING ADD-ON LIBRARIES Note: If you have a standalone T40 library, skip this section. To configure one or more Add-on libraries: 1. 43 5 VERIFYING INSTALLATION Applicable to T40 Standalone? This chapter provides instructions on preparing the StorageLibrary T40+ Series library for use and running a cycle test to verify installation. Use the following table as a post installation checklist. Applicable to T80, T120, T160, or T200 systems? Post Installation Task Go to... Attaching barcode labels page 38 Loading tape cartridges for cycle test page 38 Running a cycle test page 39 For information on operating the library, see the StorageLibrary T40+ Series Product Manual. OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 37

CHAPTER 5 VERIFYING INSTALLATION ATTACHING BARCODE LABELS Tandberg Data recommends that you attach barcode labels to all tape and cleaning cartridges that are used in the library. The StorageLibrary T40+ Series library can decipher cartridge information more efficiently if a bar code label is attached to the cartridge. Use cartridges that are compatible with the library s tape drives. See page 6 for tape cartridge compatibility information. Barcode labels for LTO tape cartridges and cleaning cartridge labels are supplied in your accessory kit. To purchase additional labels, contact your Tandberg Data Partner, or contact Sales via the Tandberg Data website at Attach barcode labels with the number sequencing at the top of the cartridge and the barcode at the bottom. Note:The tape cartridge reel hub is on the bottom of the cartridge. Attach the label with the numbers at the top of cartridge Figure 5-1 Correct barcode label placement! Important If the labels are placed incorrectly, the barcode reader will not recognize them. LOADING TAPE CARTRIDGES FOR CYCLE TEST If you have a pass-thru system, it is recommended that you load cartridges in at least two libraries -- preferably the Master unit and the upper-most Add-on unit. To load cartridges: 1. Eject the magazines from the library. (From the library s LCD panel, select Menu>Operations>Eject Magazines.) 2. Slide the magazines out and insert data cartridges with barcode labels into random slots of the magazines. 3. Push the cartridges in until they click in place. 4. Slide all the magazines back into the library until they click in place. 5. Allow each library to complete its inventory process before you run the cycle test. 38 INSTALLATION GUIDE

RUNNING A CYCLE TEST Running a cycle test will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of your pass-thru configuration. Larger pass-thru systems, such as a T160 or T200, will take more time because tape cartridges must move across several units during the test. To run a cycle test: 1. From the library s LCD panel, select Menu>Tools>Cycle Test. Note: You can also start a cycle test from the Remote Management Interface (RMI). See the StorageLibrary T40+ Series Installation and User Guide for more information about using the RMI. press Select 2. Select OK to accept the warning message that the library will go offline during the test. 3. Select the prompts and the prompt to modify the number of cycle loops to If you have a T40+ pass-thru library system (T80, T120, T160, T200), select Yes to include the Add-on units in the cycle test. OCTOBER 2011 STORAGELIBRARY T40+ SERIES 39

CHAPTER 5 VERIFYING INSTALLATION 5. Select No to not include tape drives in the cycle test. Including tape drives decreases the amount of time the tapes move between cartridges, which is the main focus of the test. The cycle test begins. 6. Monitor the cycle test s progress from the LCD panel. Note: You can only monitor test progress from the LCD panel; You cannot monitor the test via the RMI. When the test completes without errors, the LCD panel displays Selftest OK. 7. Select OK to exit the cycle test. Note: If your cycle test detected errors in the pass-thru system, contact Tandberg Data technical support (see page ii) for assistance. 40 INSTALLATION GUIDE
