2 System control The drive can be controlled in one of two ways: in analog / digital control mode, or in Modbus control mode. The drive is configured to run in analog / digital control mode by default. If the application requires Modbus control then some drive parameters will need to be adjusted as outlined in section 2.2 Modbus on page Analog / Digital The drive is set up to run in analog / digital control mode by default. The following connections are the preferred connections to run the drive (as illustrated in Figure 2-1): Drive Enable (between pins 22 and 31) Run/Stop (between pins 22 and 26) Drive Reset (between pins 22 and 25) Compressor On (indicated from pin 24) Speed Reference 0 to 10 V (between pins 4, 8 and 11) Pressure Sensors 2 x 4-20 ma (between pins 5 and 22, 7 and 22) Stator Heating (between pins 22 and 27) Defrost Control (between pins 22 and 28) User Trip e.g. OEM emergency stop (between pins 22 and 29) Drive OK on Relay (between pins 41 and 42) The following connections are used at a minimum to put the drive in to a basic test mode: Drive Enable (between pins 22 and 31) Run/Stop (between pins 22 and 26) Drive Reset (between pins 22 and 25) Speed Reference 0 to 10 V (between pins 4, 8 and 11) Set Pr bit 3 = 1 to disable Envelope Control Refer to section 6 in the Drive User Guide for specific details regarding these features and their corresponding connections. If the drive has previously been configured to run in Modbus control mode then there are two ways to configure the drive back into analog / digital control mode. 1. The simplest option is to reset the drive back to factory defaults. The drawback to this method is that ALL parameters are defaulted. If other drive parameters have been customized then they will be lost. Position the keypad to any "zero" parameter (i.e. Pr MM.000); press enter. Scroll up to "Reset 60 Hz defs", press enter. 2. The second option is to manually configure the drive back into the analog / digital control mode. This method will retain all other parameter modifications previously made to the drive. Set the following parameters: Pr bit 8 = 0 Adjust other features in Pr as required Verify that Pr = 0 Reconfigure analog inputs according to Table 2-1 Control drive operation via I/O switch on pins 26 and 31 Details on Pr and Pr can be found in section 4.1 and section Quick Start Guide

Table 2-1 lists the parameters and corresponding values that need to be configured before the drive will operate in analog / digital control mode using envelope control. The following parameters are the default values for the drive assuming that an 18 bar sensor is used for suction and a 50 bar sensor is used for discharge. Table 2-1 Settings for Analog Speed Command with Envelope Control Parameter Description Value Device AI1 Control 4 (4-20 ma) Analog Input 1 Suction Pressure (4-20 ma) Or Analog Reference Modbus setting 4 (4-20 ma) 6 (0-10 V) Scaling Destination Address AI2 Control (4-20 ma) Analog Input 2 Discharge Pressure (4-20 ma) Or Analog Reference 4 (4-20 ma) 6 (0-10 V) Scaling Destination Address AI3 Control 9 6 (Therm No (Volt) Analog input 3 Trip) 0-10 V Speed Reference Scaling 1 (Volt) Destination Address The drive assumes that the pressure transducer is rated in [bar]. However, the drive is configured to display the measured suction and discharge pressure in [PSIG]. The drive can be configured to display the pressures in [bar] by adjusting Pr [bit 5]=1. The scaling values for Pr and Pr in Table 2-1 will need to be recalculated under the following scenarios: 1. The suction transducer is not rated for 18 [bar] and/or the discharge transducer is not rated for 50 [bar]. 2. The user wants to view the pressure in [bar] units. 11 2.2 Modbus This section will guide you through the steps to configure the drive to run in Modbus control mode. The following connections are required to run the drive (as illustrated in Figure 2-3): Drive Enable/Pressure Switch (between pins 22 and 31) Connection to OEM controller via RJ485 port Figure 2-3 Connections available in Modbus control mode V 1 8 Pin 2 - TxRx Pin 3-0V/GND Pin7 - /TxRx Drive Enable Pressure Switch Once the appropriate control connections have been made to the drive then adjust the following parameters to configure the drive into Modbus control mode: Set the following parameters: Pr bit 8 = 1 (default is 0) Adjust other features in Pr as required Adjust Pr = 0.0 Adjust Pr = 0.0 Adjust Pr = 0.0 Set desired speed with Pr Control drive operation from PLC via adjusting the bits in Pr as required Details on Pr and Pr can be found in section 4.1 and section 4.2. 13 3 Keypad A keypad is used view and make adjustments to the drive parameters. There are two optional keypads that can be used with the drive: a snap on keypad that physically attaches to the drive or a remote keypad that can be mounted to the outside of an enclosure. The snap on keypad connects to the drive in the same way independently of the control mode being used; the remote keypad connection will vary as described below depending on the control mode. 3.1 Analog I/O configuration The following drive parameters will need to be configured via HVAC Connect or a temporary snap on keypad before the remote keypad will begin to function (as illustrated in Figure 3-1): Adjust Serial Baud Rate Pr = Adjust Serial Address Pr = 1 Adjust Serial Mode Pr = 8 2 NP Set Pr = 'On' (this parameter will then turn back to 'Off' automatically) Save the drive parameters Adjusting the drive parameters can be accomplished in one of three ways: 1. Temporarily use a clip on keypad to make the changes. 2. Download and install the HVAC Connect software to communicate with the drive via an optional USB-to-RJ485 adaptor. 3. Use a pre-configured smart card and adaptor to "clone" the drive parameters. The remote keypad can be connected to either of the RJ485 ports on the drive via a RJ45 cable. Alternatively, if none of the three the items above are available to make changes to the drive parameters, a KI-485 Adaptor can be purchased. This alternative method will allow the remote keypad to function without having to change ANY drive parameters. Refer to section 3.2 for additional details. Figure 3-1 Remote keypad via 485 port NOTE 4 RJ45 cable Snap on Keypad (optional) Remote Keypad (optional) The snap on keypad and the remote keypad can both be used simultaneously in this configuration. Or Keypad System control Keypad Parameters PC Tools - HVAC Connect Quick Start Guide 13

3.2 Modbus configurations When the drive is configured for Modbus control mode, an OEM controller is communicating as the master to the drive. Subsequently, the optional remote keypad is also a 485 master device. And while the drive has two RJ485 ports, they make up a single 485 channel. Therefore the second 485 port cannot be used for any other reason except to "daisy chain" the OEM controller to additional drives if the application requires. Therefore, the only way to connect an optional remote keypad to the drive would be through the use of a KI-485 Adaptor (as illustrated in Figure 3-2). Figure 3-2 Remote keypad via KI-485 Adaptor Snap on Keypad (optional) OEM controller Or 4 KI-485 Adaptor RJ45 cable Remote Keypad (optional) One benefit of using the KI-485 Adaptor, in either analog / digital control mode or in Modbus control mode, is that no parameter changes are required before the remote keypad will function with the drive. 14 Quick Start Guide

3.3 Keypad shortcuts This section explains some of the time saving features that are built into the keypads The keypad's "user settings" menu While scrolling through the parameters, press the return button twice and hold on the last press for 1 second. This will allow the user to view the keypad settings such as: Language options Backlight level Keypad software version Date/time features (for keypads with RTC) To exit the keypad settings menu, press the return button The "1001" save Drive parameters are usually saved by entering into any Pr MM.000 and scrolling up to select "Save parameters". However, this save will only work when the drive is not in a tripped state. Commissioning a drive via 24V or bench testing a drive via 24V, for example, would both put the drive in an "Under Voltage" tripped state which will not allow for any modified parameters to be saved within the drive using the traditional save method. To save parameters while the drive is in any tripped state, use the following procedure. Position the keypad to any "zero" parameter (i.e. Pr MM.000); press enter. Press the left arrow three times and then press the up arrow once to enter a value of '1000'. Press the right arrow three times and then press the up arrow once to enter a value of '1001'. Press the red 'stop' button to save the drive parameters The "multi-press" functions Simultaneously pressing the left and right arrows while scrolling through the parameter menus will bring the keypad directly to menu 0 (i.e. Pr 00.PPP). Simultaneously pressing the up and down arrows while scrolling through the parameter menus will bring the keypad directly to parameter 0 within that menu (i.e. Pr MM.000). Example: Pressing the left and right arrows simultaneously and then subsequently pressing the up and down arrows simultaneously is the fastest way to return back to Pr Simultaneously pressing the up and down arrows while editing a parameter value will reset the value to zero The "go to parameter" If the security parameter Pr is set to 'all menus', then the quickest way to move to a parameter that would otherwise require many key presses to navigate to is: Hold in the enter key for 1 second Enter in a parameter of interest; press enter. 16 4 Parameters 4.1 Configuration control word parameter Pr , containing the configuration control word, is used to control the drive in both analog / digital control mode and in Modbus control mode. To allow for simple drive configurations in Modbus control mode, all drive and compressor functions are enabled/disabled using this single bitwise parameter: Pr Table 4-1 Pr {Pr } Bit Key to the Configuration Parameter (the first bit, aka. the least significant bit, is on the right side of the binary number): Name Function Default 0 (1 st ) Variable switching frequency 0: Disable, 1: Enable 0 (Disable) 1 (2 nd ) Single phase AC input detection 0: Disable, 1: Enable 0 (Disable) 2 (3 rd ) Short cycle protection 0: Enable, 1: Disable 0 (Enable) 3 (4 th ) Envelope control 0: Enable, 1: Disable 0 (Enable) 4 (5 th ) DLT Temperature unit 0: Fahrenheit, 1: Celsius 0 ( F) 5 (6 th ) Envelope Pressure unit 0: Psig, 1: Bar 0 (Psig) 6 (7 th ) Oil control 0: Enable, 1: Disable 0 (Enable) 7 (8 th ) Defrost cycle control 0: Disable, 1: Enable 0 (Disable) 8 (9 th ) Control source for Start/run and stator heater 0: From Terminal digital input 1: From Modbus or Keypad 0 (Digital) 9 (10 th ) DLT protection 0: Disable, 1: Enable 0 (Disable) 10 (11 th ) Locked rotor detection on start 0: Enable, 1: Disable 0 (Enable) 11 (12 th ) Reserved N/A N/A 12 (13 th ) Lost rotor ride-through protection 0: Enable, 1: Disable 0 (Enable) 13 (14 th ) DLT temperature source 0: From Modbus or Keypad, 1: From Terminal Analog Input 0 (From OEM) 14 (15 th ) Reserved N/A N/A 15 (16 th ) Reserved N/A N/A 16 Quick Start Guide

4.2 System control word parameter Pr , containing the system control word, is used to control the drive only in Modbus control mode. To allow for simple drive configurations in Modbus control mode, all drive and compressor functions are enabled/disabled using this single bitwise parameter: Pr Table 4-2 Key to the Control Parameter (the first bit, aka. the least significant bit, is on the right side of the binary number): Pr Bit Name Function Default 0 (1 st ) Start 1: Start 0: No action 0 1 (2 nd ) Controlled shutdown 1: Shutdown the compressor 0: No action 0 2 (3 rd ) Stator heating control 1: Turn on the stator heater 0: No action 0 3 (4 th ) Defrost cycle trigger 1: Trigger the defrost cycle on transition 0: No action 0 4 (5 th ) Reset trips if possible 1: Reset trips on transition 0: No action 0 5 (6 th ) Trip on communication loss 1: Enable the communication watchdog 0: No action 0 Bits 6 to 15 Reserved N/A N/A NOTE When the drive is configured for Modbus control mode (i.e. Pr bit 8=1), the compressor is started by setting Pr bit 1=1; the compressor will continue to run even if Pr bit 1 is set back to 0. The only way to enable the controlled shutdown sequence in Modbus control mode is to set Pr bit 2=1. Drive wiring System control Keypad Parameters PC Tools - HVAC Connect Quick Start Guide 17

5 PC Tools - HVAC Connect 5.1 Quick start commissioning / start-up using HVAC Drive Connect (V onwards) HVAC Drive Connect is a Windows based software commissioning / start-up tool. HVAC Drive Connect can be used for commissioning / start-up and monitoring, drive parameters can be uploaded, downloaded and compared and simple or custom menu listings can be created. Drive menus can be displayed in standard list format or as live block diagrams. HVAC Drive Connect is able to communicate with a single drive or a network. HVAC Drive Connect can be downloaded from: (file size approximately 100 MB). HVAC Drive Connect system requirements Windows 8, Windows 7 SP1, Windows Vista SP2, Windows XP SP3 Minimum of 1280 x 1024 screen resolution with 256 colours Microsoft.Net Frameworks 4.0 (this is provided in the downloaded file) Note that you must have administrator rights to install HVAC Drive Connect Any previous copy of HVAC Drive Connect should be uninstalled before proceeding with the installation (existing projects will not be lost). Included within HVAC Drive Connect is the Parameter Reference Guide for HVAC Drive Updating firmware If the drive has previously been installed and commissioned then apply the AC mains voltage to the drive. Alternatively the drive's control logic can be powered up out of the box using a 24 Vdc power supply. Refer to the Drive User Guide for additional information on connecting 24 Vdc to the drive. Once the drive has been powered up then start HVAC Drive Connect. Based on the available communication accessories available, select one of the two options below from the 'Project Management' screen to communicate with the drive. 1. Connect an optional USB-to-485 Adaptor to one of the open 485 ports on the drive. Select Scan serial RTU network. Note that no other device is permitted to actively use the other 485 port on the drive as a master. 2. Connect an optional SI-Ethernet option module to the drive and connect to a computer using an RJ45 cable. Select Scan Ethernet network Drive wiring System control Keypad Parameters PC Tools - HVAC Connect Quick Start Guide 21

NOTE HVAC Connect can take up to 10 minutes to locate and connect to the drive. Once HVAC Drive Connect appears to have identified the drive, press the 'Online' icon to begin communicating with the drive. 22 Quick Start Guide

If required, obtain the most recent firmware for the drive model and place the file on the computer desktop. Click on the 'Change Firmware' icon from the Dashboard tab. Browse for the file with an '.img' file extension and select 'open'. Click on the 'Next' icon at the top-right corner of the window. Ensure that no power or communication connections are at risk of becoming disconnected and then click on "Start Download" to proceed with updating the drive firmware. Note that it could take approximately 8 to 10 minutes to upgrade the drive via 485; it should take less than 1 minute to upgrade the drive via the SI-Ethernet module. Once HVAC Drive Connect prompts that the upgrade is complete, close out of any messages that have popped up. At this point, HVAC Drive Connect may require the user to re-scan for the drive before communications can resume. Drive wiring System control Keypad Parameters PC Tools - HVAC Connect Quick Start Guide 23

5.1.2 Saving / Loading parameters Saving parameters from a drive can be useful for many reasons including the following: Creating a backup of non-default parameters prior to experimenting with parameter value adjustments. Creating a master parameter file that can be used to "clone" subsequent drives as a way to reduce commissioning time. To save a parameter set from the drive, click on the 'Upload to a file' icon and press save. To download a.parfile from a computer into a drive, click on the 'Download file to drive' icon and press open Viewing drive parameters To view the drive parameters, choose a menu by clicking the 'Parameter Listings' icon on the Dashboard tab. HVAC Drive Connect has some useful tools built in to the program. The drive parameters can be compared against the drive default values to show what parameter values have changed from defaults. Alternatively, the drive parameters can be compared against a.parfile located on a computer to show what drive parameter values have changed from the original file. 24 Quick Start Guide
