8 Release Information Compatibility This section details the compatibility requirements for the backdraft 5.3. release. Installing backdraft 5.3. For all platforms except Tezro and the Onyx 350, refer to the backdraft 5. User s Guide for complete installation instructions. backdraft 5.3. on the Onyx 350 Platform You will need to install an Onyx 350 version of backdraft 5.3. to use backdraft 5.3. on the Onyx 350 platform. To install backdraft 5.3. on the Onyx 350 platform:. Log in as root.. Make sure that the inferno 5.3., fire 5.3., and backdraft 5.3. for Onyx 350 CD is in the CD-ROM drive and that the drive is mounted. 3. IRIX 6.5.9f and 6.5.f The version of IRIX that you require depends on the platform. Each platform and its corresponding IRIX version is listed in the following table. Clip Library and Project Compatibility All inferno 5.3., flame 8.3., flint 8.3., smoke 5.3., fire 5.3., and backdraft 5.3. clips, clip libraries, and projects are interchangeable. Archives from previous versions are read-only. If you access a system that has partitions created in inferno 4.6, flame 7.6, flint 7.6, smoke 5.0, fire 5.0, or backdraft 5.0 or earlier, the framestores will be read-only. 5

11 Configuring the Onyx 300 with the IX-Brick This chapter explains how to configure the Onyx 300 platform with the IX-brick. The IX-brick replaces the I-brick. Only users with Onyx 300 with the IX-brick need to read this chapter. Summary About the IX-Brick IX-Brick PCI Slots and Buses Configuring Storage for the Onyx 300 with the IX-Brick About the IX-Brick The IX-brick is located below the G-brick and above the X-brick. The main enhancement to the IX-brick (compared with the I-brick) is the increased number of PCI slots. The increased number of PCI slots provides more flexibility in terms of Onyx 300 configuration. NOTE: All aspects of the G- and X-bricks remain the same as in previous releases. 7

12 Configuring the Onyx 300 with the IX-Brick IX-Brick PCI Slots and Buses The IX-brick contains six PCI buses with two slots per bus for a total of PCI slots. There are several PCI slots on the new IX-brick that support optional boards. The contents of these slots will vary depending on the specific needs of your organization. When determining the contents of the slots that you can fill with optional boards, ensure that you maintain a balanced load on each bus. All the boards on a given bus must have the same rate of data transmission. If the rates differ between boards, all boards will operate at the slowest rate of transmission. For example, if you have two boards on a bus and one board has a transmission rate of 33 MHz and another has a rate of 33 MHz, both boards will operate at 33 MHz. The Octane and Octane MXE workstations continue to be supported for the smoke 5.3., flame 8.3., and backdraft 5.3. releases. Use dual processor configurations instead.
