1 2/98 Page 1 of 12 UDC 5300 Controller Specification Overview The UDC 5300 Controller (Figure 1) offers flexibility and performance typically found in controllers much larger than its 1/4 DIN size. The use of function blocks for configuration and a large variety of standard control algorithms allow the UDC 5300 to satisfy the most demanding control applications. The controller is available in models for one or two loops of independent or cascade control and offers a diversity of output types. Adding the data storage feature with PCMCIA memory card technology for real-time storage of process measurements and operator actions provides an accurate record of control performance. This feature also permits storage and recall of controller configurations, calibration parameters and ramp/soak setpoint programs for batch cycle operations. SDA software allows analysis of up to six analog values in trend and tabular formats, plus alarms and operator actions. Configuration development on a PC can be implemented with SCF software. SCF software allows downloading controller configurations via the PCMCIA card or via serial communications. Additional I/O may be added to the controller in the form of 2 additional analog inputs, a second current/ voltage output with 3 discrete inputs or 2 additional relays with 2 discrete inputs. 2 Page 2 Analog Inputs Universal analog inputs accommodate a wide range of sensor types including thermocouple, RTD, Rayotube, linear mv, V and custom linearization using 20 segment pairs as a standard feature. Custom linearization inputs may be millivoltage, voltage, thermocouple with cold junction compensation, RTD with current source or radiation sensors with emissivity. A lag filter, logic hold input and failsafe selection are also provided for each input. Control Algorithms Any of 8 control algorithm types may be selected to satisfy the specific control application. These include: STANDARD PID For less complex applications ADVANCED PID Accommodates feedforward input with gain, output tracking, setpoint approach compensation, soft PID (PIDB), and remote control actions using logic inputs for more demanding control requirements. SPLIT Provides a -100% to 100% output to drive two control outputs for heat / cool or other dual energy process. RATIO Provides a ratio adjustment for the loop remote setpoint and a manual bias value input. CASCADE PRIMARY The primary control loop in a cascade configuration allows engineering unit scaling of the control output and cascade interlocks with the down stream control loop to prevent windup and bumpless recovery from manual override actions or other process interruptions. CASCADE SECONDARY The secondary loop of a cascade configuration accepts a remote setpoint from the primary control loop and initiates loop tracking during abnormal conditions. DIAT Direction impulse adjusting type output may be used for increasing or decreasing a motor actuator without a feedback slidewire. Output percentage is disabled. ON/OFF Provides an ON or OFF output signal to a discrete output relay based on deviation from setpoint. An output hysteresis adjustment and logic input to force the output to the OFF state are provided. Analog Output Algorithms Analog output algorithms are used to drive specific output hardware to complete the control configuration. Although typically assigned to PID control algorithms, an analog output algorithm may accept any analog parameter as an input for retransmission. Four algorithms are provided. Algorithm #1 is assigned to current/ voltage output #1 and algorithm #2 is assigned to current/voltage output #2. When current or voltage is not used, each of the four algorithms may be configured for time proportioning (DAT) or position proportioning (PP) output types. The analog output algorithms offer the following features: CURRENT type (CAT) Provides output scaling for any span between 0 and 20 ma, input scaling to match the signal source, increase and decrease slew rate values and failsafe output value. VOLTAGE type (VAT) Provides output scaling for any span between 0 and 5 volts, input scaling to match the signal source, increase and decrease slew rate values and failsafe output value. TIME PROPORTIONING type (DAT) Provides increase and decrease slew rate values, impulse time value, minimum OFF time, minimum ON time and failsafe value. POSITION PROPORTIONING type (PP/DIAT) Accommodates motor actuator speeds from 1 to 300 seconds, provides sensitivity adjustment to prevent actuator oscillation and offers selection of feedback (PP) or no feedback (DIAT) operation. Alarms Up to 4 alarm compare values may be assigned to any analog value such as analog input, control output, setpoint value or calculation. A time delay of up to 240 seconds may be assigned to each alarm compare action. Alarm setpoints may be entered as an integer number or be directed to another analog value. A hysteresis value in engineering units is provided. High and low acting alarms are indicated with a red annunciator on the controller display. The available alarm actions are: HIGH, LOW, DEVIATION, HIGH DEVIATION, LOW DEVIATION, INCREASING RATE OF CHANGE and DECREASING RATE OF CHANGE. Calculations Up to 16 calculations are provided as a standard feature in all UDC 5300 controllers. These calculations may be configured through the controller s front panel from a set of algorithms provided in the controller. If extensive math is required, SCF configuration software may be used to enter a freeform equation of up to 32 characters is required. An algorithm type may be used multiple times in a controller configuration. An assortment of algorithm types is provided. Within each algorithm type a choice of multiple actions may be provided. The following algorithm types and actions are provided: Peak Peaking MAXIMUM VALUE Holds the maximum analog value reached during the previous user specified time period. MINIMUM VALUE Holds the minimum analog value reached during the previous user specified time period. AVERAGE Calculates the average analog value over the user specified time period. STANDARD DEVIATION Calculates the standard deviation of the analog value over the user specified time period. The output is updated after each user specified time period from 0.1 to minutes.

3 Page 3 Signal Select HIGH SELECTION Selects the highest value from up to 8 analog values or numbers. LOW SELECTION Selects the lowest value from up to 8 analog values or numbers. AVERAGE Calculates the average of up to 8 analog values or numbers. MIDDLE Selects the middle value from up to 8 analog values or numbers. FIRST GOOD Selects the first good input in sequence from 1 to 8 inputs or calculations. (Automatically selects a second thermocouple if the first thermocouple fails.) ANALOG SWITCH Selects from up to 8 inputs or numbers by an integer number input (1 to 8). DISCRETE SWITCH Selects from 2 inputs from the on/off state of a logic input. Math ADD Calculates the sum of up to 8 analog values or numbers. SUBTRACT Calculates the difference between the 1st input or number and the sum of the next 7 inputs or numbers. DIVIDE Calculates the quotient of the first input or number divided by the second input or number. MULTIPLY Calculates the product of from 2 to 8 analog values or numbers. STANDARD DEVIATION Calculates the standard deviation of from 1 to 8 inputs or numbers. ABSOLUTE VALUE Provides the absolute value of the 1st analog input or number. SQUARE ROOT Calculates the square root of the 1st analog input or number. FREE-FORM Available through SCF configuration software. Allows user configuration of free form equations with up to 8 analog, values or numbers, and the following math operations: +, -, *, /, absolute value, square root y n, e x, log base 10 of n, natural log of n, and negation. Multiple levels of parenthesis are accepted to a maximum of 32 total characters. EXAMPLE: Output = SQRT ((C*A)/(1-(D*B)^2)) Logic Performs AND, OR, XOR logic operations (up to 8 discrete inputs). RS Flip/Flop, Toggle Flip/Flop One-shot output. Logic Inverter Performs NOT logic operation (1 input). Totalizer Integrates an analog value or number based on a selectable rate in seconds, minutes, hours or days. A logic input is provided to reset the totalizer. Types include: UP Integrates up to a preset value, activates a discrete output for one scan cycle and restarts from 0 + carryover. DOWN Begins integration from the preset value and decreases to 0, activates a discrete output for one scan cycle and restarts from the preset value-carryover. ON-DEMAND Operation is similar to the UP totalizer except integration only occurs when a logic enable input is ON. CONTINUOUS Operation is similar to the UP totalizer except preset is ignored and upper limit determines restart value. Interval Timer Provides off-delay action in minutes based on a reset/run logic input. Periodic Timer Provides a single scan logic output on time periods in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks or months. Splitter Provides two analog outputs in a user specified proportion to an analog input. (Used to drive two outputs from a single loop for heat/cool control.) Compare Compares two analog inputs and generates a logic output base on the following conditions: A>B, A<B, A>B, A<B, A=B, A not =B. Logic and Compare functions allow for output delay, output extend, and output pulse. Optional Carbon Potential Calculation Calculates the atmosphere s actual carbon potential and compares this value with the desired setpoint. Constants Up to 9 constants are available to provide numerical values that may be altered while on-line. Constants may be used in calculations, or for other function block inputs. Constants may also be applied as a transfer location to direct a calculation or analog value into a tuning value or setpoint limit of a control loop. Discrete Inputs The UDC 5300 controller may have from 0 to 3 (contact closure) discrete inputs available based on hardware selections. Discrete inputs may be used to control any logic function of the controller and one input may control any number of functions. Logic inputs may be set for normal (out is OFF when the input is OFF) or inverted operation. A user entered on-delay time is also provided. Discrete Outputs The UDC 5300 controller offers two relay outputs standard and two additional relay outputs may be specified. These discrete outputs may be assigned to any logic status output such as analog output algorithms, alarms, compare calculations or the auto/manual status or setpoint status of a control loop. Logic outputs may be set for normal (out is OFF when the input is OFF) or inverted operation. Autotune This feature simplifies controller commissioning by automatically determining optimum tuning parameters for the process. Autotuning executes process identification through a manual or automatically induced step change. The feature may be applied independently to each loop to develop unique parameters for processes with differing dynamics. Fuzzy logic overshoot and suppression is also available for batch type processes.

4 Page 4 User Interface (Figure 2) Operator responses during upsets are enhanced with improved presentation of data. Large six-character alphanumeric display provides easy to read, high resolution process data. A slightly smaller eight-character display is used for setpoint, output and message data during normal operation. The user may choose from 14 pre-formatted displays. These include process variable, setpoint, deviation and output for each control loop, as well as information from calculated values and constants. To assure process integrity, there is a built-in security system which provides controlled access to operator and configuration functions. Automatic prompting for user selected 3 digit security code and automatic relocking will occur for all locked functions and parameters. Two event outputs can be used to initiate discrete actions based on profile step numbers. A guarantee deviation value is available to pause profile operation if the process variable strays from setpoint by more than a user specified amount. A profile may provide setpoints to either loop or both loops in a dual loop version. A dedicated setpoint profile key is provided to access on-line operation. Start, Pause and Reset actions may also be controlled by discrete inputs. Up to 99 profiles may be stored in the removable memory card (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association PCMCIA). This option allows the user to select profiles from a list of unique 8-character file names for error-free recipe loading. 5 An Operating profile permits on-line adjustment of soak value, soak time and ramp rate for the current steps and other steps in sequence. DATA STORAGE/ARCHIVING OPTION A UDC 5300 controller may be equipped with a PCMCIA storage card interface to store process data, log alarms and events, save controller configurations and calibration, and maintain multiple setpoint profile files. The PCMCIA card interface can accept 256K, 512K and 1 Meg SRAM memory cards. The data files of this feature may be configured to stop storing data when the memory card is full or continue to store data replacing the oldest data with new data in a rotating file. The storage of data may also be configured for continuous storage or batch operation. In batch operation, external discrete inputs, internal discrete status or actions from the keyboard determine when storage is actively being stored. Sequence numbers are attached to the batch data files to allow sequential review of the batch data using data analysis software. The types of data files stored on the memory card are: Analog inputs or internal analog values (Up to 6 points). On/Off status of alarms Event and operator actions including: Controller mode changes Setpoint 1 or 2 selection Tuning set changes Auto/manual changes Setpoint Profile Start, Pause, Reset Setpoint value changes Manual changes to loop output Ratio setpoint changes Discrete inputs On/Off Diagnostic records SDA software provides review and analysis displays for any personal computer running in the Microsoft Windows environment. Using the memory card, there is no need to dedicate a computer to the data analysis operation. For review, analysis, printing and format conversion of this data in a personal computer, a PCMCIA card reader and the Windows-based SDA (Data Analysis) software is needed. Utilities are also provided to convert data to CSV or DIF formats for use in other software programs. In addition to process data, a separate memory card may also be used to save controller configurations. This permits configuration transfer between multiple controllers of the same type, or quick reloading of configuration after maintenance. Up to 30 configurations may be stored on a single card. Setpoint profiles may also be stored on another memory card. SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS The serial communications option allows central supervision of up to 31 controllers on a multi-drop link from a personal computer. The Host computer initiates all communication exchanges for loop performance monitoring and parameter changes. There are two protocols: LNC proprietary and MODBUS. The serial communication feature can be incorporated into any model UDC 5300 controller. The RS-485 serial communication interface uses two shielded twisted pair conductors. This feature supports access to all on-line, set up and configuration parameters in the controller. All these functions may be performed from a personal computer using appropriate software packages. Accessories Page 5 Two software packages are offered for use with the UDC 5300 controller and are designed to operate in the Microsoft Windows (Version 3.1, 95 or NT) environment on a personal computer. SDA (DATA ANALYSIS) Allows offline analysis of historical data from PCMCIA memory card(s). This includes horizontal and vertical trend displays, X-Y plots, seamless display of multiple trend files, panning (scrolling), value & box zooming, compressed. Data can be converted to DIF or CSV for use in commercial spread sheet and word processing packages. SCF (CONFIGURATION) Allows complete off-line controller configuration using fill-in-the-blanks templates. This information can then be transferred to one or more controllers over a communication link. It can also be transferred to one or more controllers over a communication link. It can also be transferred onto a PCMCIA card, if a card reader is connected. The card can then be loaded into one or more extended controllers with the card memory feature.
