2 Tapping the ballast WARNING: Power must be turned off before tapping the ballast. This operation should only be performed by qualified personnel. Hazardous voltage is present and extreme caution should be exercised. Set the ballast by moving the orange wire to the appropriate terminal. In a typical European (50 hz) power system, measure the line to line voltage and choose the tap corresponding to the voltage closest to the measured value. 2 = 380 v 3 = 400 v 4 = 415 v American (60 hz) power system 2 = 420 v 3 = 450 v 4 = 480 v Metering power WARNING: This operation should only be performed by qualified personnel. Hazardous voltage is present and extreme caution should be exercised. Lamp power is measured with power applied and the lamp operating for at least 20 minutes. The ArenaVision lamp operates from AC and incorporates a magnetic ballast. A true RMS power meter must be used, monitoring the voltage and current at the same time. The meter needed for checking watts on an Arena light is a True RMS AC Power Meter set on watts. See power meter spec sheet. Please NOTE: The method for metering a Xenon lamp will not give a correct measurement for ArenaVision. Clamp the black wire connected to the #2 position on the relay. Insert probes into the black and white wire that connects to the lamp as shown below. 2

4 Philips ArenaVision and GE 2000 sports fixtures do not support hot re-strike. Should power supply failure occur the lamphead should be cooled completely before re-strike, usually about minutes. Failure to allow for cooling before re-strike will result in damage to igniters or the unit. Terminators This unit is equipped with DMX input and output connectors to facilitate a daisy chain connection of multiple units. A terminating plug must be installed in the DMX output connector at the end of the chain regardless of how many units are connected. Assigning the DMX start address DMX start address is assigned using the three dip switches inside the ballast. See photo below. 4

6 Basic Setup DMX Cables All Syncrolite products use DMX protocol. We recommend a maximum DMX cable length of 2000, though the system will operate up to 1 mile from the DMX source with quality cable and a DMX splitter. AC Power Cables Syncrolite power distros accept a 3 pole 4 wire European twist lock connector. Power Cables Lamp power is provided between the ballast and lamphead via 12/3 600 v cable with 3 pin 35A connector. 6

7 Changing a Lamp WARNING: Power must be turned off before changing a lamp. This operation should only be performed by qualified personnel. Hazardous voltage is present and extreme caution should be exercised. Step 1 Un-latch retaining clips and pull down back cover. Step 2 Un-hook the spring clip that holds the lamp to the socket. 7

8 Step 3 Pull the lamp from the lamp socket. Step 4 Install the new lamp taking care not to touch the glass envelope. Use the enclosed alcohol wipe to wipe off the envelope of the new lamp. Re-hook the spring clip and close the back cover. 8

9 Accessing and Removing Cartridges WARNING: Power should be turned off before accessing cartridges. Damage will result in the electronics if you remove a cartridge while power is on. This operation should only be performed by qualified personnel. Hazardous voltage is present and extreme caution should be exercised. Step 1 Un-latch two latches to remove the top cover and filter. Step 2 Release the spring retaining clip by pressing it. Step 3 Pull the cartridge out by its handle. 9

11 Removing or Installing a Scroll **See prior section on how to access and remove the scroller cartridge. Step 1 Roll all of the frames to the spring roller side (closest to the motor). Step 2 Remove the tape securing the end of the scroll to the fixed roller tube. Step 3 Roll up the scroll. You should end up with the scroll tag on the outside as shown below. 11

12 Step 4 Using three pieces of 3 long gel tape secure the tag side of the scroll to the spring roller tube (side with motor). Align the scroll with the 2 screws on the roller tube. Roll the scroll onto the spring roller keeping the scroll taught with tension. 12

13 Step 5 Rotate the fixed roller tube four complete revolutions to tension the spring. Step 6 Using three pieces of 3 long gel tape, secure the end of the scroll to the fixed roller tube. 13
