SensaLink Programmer Handset Contents 1. Overview 2. Using the handset 3. Upgrading the handset firmware 4. Upgrading the PC software 5. Glossary

Overview The SLKIRPRG3 SensaLink Digital Programmer Handset is designed for use with Thorn s range of lighting control systems. Each product s programmable parameters can be configured via this hand-held infrared unit. The SLKIRPRG3 is powered by 3 x AAA alkaline cells. The battery life is shown in the upper right-hand corner of the LCD display and the cells should be replaced when this reaches minimum. Firmware is the name given to the software that runs in the handset. In order to cater for enhancements to existing products and the addition of new products to our portfolio, the handset firmware is revised frequently. This package has been designed to make the process of gaining access to the latest firmware and upgrading the handset as easy as possible. A PC application entitled Handset Upgrader is supplied which can be used to gain access to the latest firmware via the Internet and then transfer it to the handset via USB.

Using the Handset After powering up the handset, all menus can be accessed using a combination of the up, down, forward (right) and back (left) arrow buttons. Navigating through the menus will cause a help screen to be displayed at key stages. Help is not displayed when going backwards through the menus. Selecting and editing a parameter Power up the programmer & press OK to select the most recently edited product. A detector s current settings can be retrieved at any time by pressing the Download button whilst holding the SLKIRPRG3 approximately one metre, perfectly perpendicular, directly beneath the unit. (Note that this also applies when performing an Upload.) Current settings stored in the SLKIRPRG3 can be sent to the detector by pressing the Upload button from within the parameter menu screen. The diagrams to the right illustrate the process of selecting and editing the time delay of a given product. 11 Battery Life Power 5 Scroll Up 4 OK 6 LCD Display Download Upload Forward Scroll Down Back Press the down arrow 3 times, then forward once to view the help screen for the Off Delay parameter. TIP: Use OK to go forward without accessing the Help Screen The current setting is shown along the top of the screen. Pressing OK shows all available options for this parameter. Use the up and down buttons to select the required value then press OK. x3 10 USB Port Tips 1. Press the DOWNLOAD button at any time to retrieve the currently programmed settings. 2. Press UPLOAD at any time whilst in the parameters menu to transfer all current settings from the handset to the product. 3. When a parameter has two options, toggle between them by doubleclicking 4. Use the OK button to go forward (through the menus) without displaying help pages. The new setting can be uploaded to the detector by pressing the OK button.

Upgrading the Handset Firmware The SensaLink Programmer upgrade software ensures that the SLKIRPRG3 always has the latest firmware and support for Thorn products. 2 1 To upgrade the handset s firmware, start the Handset Upgrader utility and click the Files tab (1). By selecting Check WWW for latest files (2) the utility searches the upgrade website and lists the most recent firmware file. Please note that the latest utility software version is also displayed at this time - see part 4 of this guide. Click the Download now button to retrieve the file (3). 3 To transfer the firmware to the handset, click the Upgrade handset tab (4), check the firmware file listed matches the file previously downloaded then click the Upload file to handset button (5). If this is ghosted out, ensure that the handset is connected to the PC - the handset s display will read USB Power detected when connected correctly. 4 A progress bar indicates the status of the file upload. A message advises a successful upload. Do not unplug the USB cable at this stage. 5

Upgrading the PC Software Follow the procedure outlined previously to check for the latest Firmware and Software (1) & (2). If the SensaLink Programmer software has an available update, click the Download Now button to retrieve the file. A prompt gives the choice of where to save the file. Choose a suitable location and click Save. 2 1 Once the download has completed, close this programme, browse to the download folder and double-click the HandsetUpgraderVx.xx.msi file, where Vx.xx is the version number of the file just downloaded. When prompted, choose to Remove the current version and click Finish (4). 3 Once this has completed, again doubleclick the latest.msi file and click Next to begin the installation (5). Once the installation is complete, restart your computer if prompted. Upon running the upgraded application the current software version number can be seen in the top bar of the program window. 4 5

Glossary Items with (P) are device parameters selectable with the HP2000 A Analogue - Type of ballast utilising a 1-10V control signal B Ballast (P) - Used to select what type of ballast is connected to the product. Bright Out (P) - Determines whether the lights will switch off if the ambient level is still too bright when a regulating detector has adjusted the ballast output to minimum. Bus - The SensaLink Bus, used to share occupancy information with other SensaLink products Bus Connect (P) - Allows software disconnection from the SensaLink Bus to aid troubleshooting. C Common Group (P) - Common Groups are individual groups in their own right, sharing occupancy and infrared override information. Occupancy in ordinary groups refreshes the Off Delay in all 3 Common Groups. Common Group 1 shares occupancy information beyond the local bus network to create a building-wide zone. Corridor Linking - (Notional) corridor areas can be programmed as part of a Common Zone. These areas will remain ON whenever part of the building is occupied. D DALI - Digital Addressable Lighting Interface. Dimmable ballast protocol. Uses a digital control signal enabling specific light outputs to be maintained. See Regulating. Delay - See Off Delay Dimming (P) - Sets the percentage of full range over which the detector is allowed to regulate. E.G. If set to 70%, the detector output is allowed to go from full output to no lower than 30%. This is used to prevent over-dimming - a human perception that sometimes occurs in areas with large windows. Download - Retrieves programmed settings from a detector. Any changes made by the user can be then sent back to the detector (see Upload ). DSI - Dimmable ballast protocol used in ballasts manufactured exclusively by Tridonic. Uses a digital control signal enabling specific light outputs to be maintained. See Regulating. E Entry Scene (P) - Sets which scene is recalled when an unoccupied area is entered. Scene 1 causes the lights to regulate according to the photocell. All other scenes give a fixed output independent of the photocell. Exit Scene - See When Vacant N O Off Delay (P) - The amount of time since the last observed movement before the lights will be turned off. An Off Delay of 10 seconds is available for walk-testing. P Passive Photocell - A passive photocell will hold lights off upon entry to an unoccupied area if natural light levels are such that artificial lighting is not required. PCT (P) - Passing Cloud Timer; A delay to prevent unnecessary switching due to short term changes in ambient light. The Passing Cloud Timer can act as a delay when the lights are due to turn on or off (symmetrical), or only when the lights are due to turn off (asymmetrical) - i.e. the lights turn on instantly if it gets dark Power Up (P) - Sets the output state when power is applied. If set to ON, the output will turn on and launch an Off Delay period. If set to OFF, the output will remain off for up to 30 seconds and then the detector will look for occupancy. Q R Range (P) - Range is the same as sensitivity to movement. In some cases, the range when the lights are ON can be programmed to be more sensitive than when the lights are OFF. The word option is the ON range, the percentage option is the OFF range (a percentage of the ON range) Regulating - Referring to ballast types which adjust light output according to a digital signal or voltage sent to them from an external device. Response (P) - Semi-automatic or fully-automatic operation. In semi-automatic mode the lights will not turn on when an occupant enters the area. The occupant must actively request the lights ON, e.g. with an infrared override. S Scenes - On some products, up to 6 different lighting scenes may be stored and recalled at the touch of a button. Sensitivity - See Range Set-Points (P) - On the MP2000UF these are used as upper and lower thresholds for correct photocell operation Start Lamps (P) - Detectors can be programmed to either strike (regulating) luminaires at full output or at minimum output when occupancy is detected. Sustain - T Time Delay - See Off Delay F Fade to Off (P) - Causes the light output to fade very slowly when the Off Delay expires. Fade rate is approximately 4 minutes from full output to off. Fully-automatic - See Response G Global 1 Rx (P) - See Global Groups Global 2 Rx (P) - See Global Groups Global Groups - Global Groups provide a mechanism for special devices to address detectors in large groups without allowing the group members to talk to each other. H I J K L M Minimum On Time (P) - Ensures that when an unoccupied area is entered, the minimum duration of the Off Delay will be 20 minutes irrespective of the actual Off Delay setting. After 20 minutes have elapsed the Off Delay reverts to the programmed setting. U User Remote (P) - Simulates the operation of the HC5 hand-held user override Upload - Transfers product settings stored in the HP2000 to the device being commissioned. When uploading data, the HP2000 should be held approximately one metre directly below the detector being programmed. V W When Vacant (P) - Sets the Exit Scene for a detector - i.e. What do the lights do when an area becomes unoccupied. X Y Z Zone (P) - An MLS device will be programmed to at least one Zone, sharing occupancy information with other MLS devices on the SAME zone(s) as itself. Detectors can belong to up to 4 different zones and also 3 Common Zones. N
