7 1 Introduction Thin Clients are terminal devices that connect to multi-user application servers operating under Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp, VMware View connection server and Windows 2003/2008 terminal servers. This guide covers installation procedure and hardware details of Itona TC7521d Power Button. 2. Two USB Ports Features Figure 1-1: Itona TC7521d Front View Itona TC7521d delivers smart and robust solutions for thin client computing. Itona TC7521d is an aesthetically and ergonomically designed compact desktop, providing simultaneous full screen connectivity to Windows and UNIX application servers, it is a powerful business alternative to users using Win32 applications while continuing access to legacy UNIX applications. Itona TC7521d communicates with application servers via the ICA protocol developed by Citrix Systems Inc., Remote Desktop Protocol from Microsoft and a host of other popular connectivity protocols. The product is equipped with a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port that gives an instant connection to a multi-user Windows NT application server. Display Port, VGA, DVI-I, USB and PS/2 compatible keyboard/mouse ports are available for quick set up and use. 1 Introduction

Warning Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate this equipment. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Do not open enclosure, hazardous voltages present in the equipment s components. Do not disassemble the equipment as this can nullify your warranty. This equipment must be connected to an earthed three pin socket to avoid electrical shocks. As a precaution, the AC socket outlet should be near the equipment and should be easily accessible. Sound Power Level is less than 23dB (A), when measured according to ISO Excessive sound from earphones and headphones can cause hearing damage or loss. Avoid setting the equalizer setting to maximum. Caution Ensure that all expansion slots (on the back or side of the client) are covered with metal retaining brackets, and tightly attached to the computer cabinet. Only equipment certified to comply with Class B (computer input/output devices, terminals, printers etc.) should be connected to this equipment, and must have shielded interface cables. This equipment should not be used in electro-medical applications. Do not operate this equipment in corrosive or explosive atmosphere. Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Do not operate this equipment beyond temperature limits provided in the Operating Environment section on page 9. 3 Introduction

10 2 Installation To install the Itona TC7521d hardware, perform the following steps: 1. Unpack the unit. 2. Install the Itona Universal Wall Mounting Bracket Sliding Type. 3. Prepare to connect. 4. Connect the cables and power supply. 5. Connect to the server. Each step is explained in the following sections of this chapter. Unpacking the Unit Unpack the unit from its carton box, handle safely to ensue you do not damage any components during unpacking. Installing the Itona Universal Wall Mounting Bracket You have to install the thin client in the wall mounting bracket before you can connect and use it. For information on assembling and installing the wall mounting bracket, refer to the wall mounting bracket installation document in the following FTP link: ftp.vxl.net/documentation/ Note: Use the user name and password provided by VXL Instruments to access the FTP server mentioned above. Preparing to Connect Ensure that the following are available before you install the product: 100~240 V AC, 1.5 A, 50/60 Hz, 3-pin grounded power inlet. Note: Ensure that the power inlet plug is regulated and earthed. A floating ground/chassis could cause an electric shock. Well ventilated, clean, dry and dust free place to install the product. Refer to the connector symbols provided in Table 1: Connector Symbols to connect the cables to the correct port. Connect the cables and power supply to the unit in the following order: 1. Connect PS/2 keyboard to the PS/2 Keyboard Port. 2. Connect PS/2 mouse to the PS/2 Mouse Port. 3. Connect the USB devices to the USB Ports. 4. Connect a single monitor or dual monitors based on your requirement. Following are the ways in which you can connect the monitors: a) To connect a single monitor, connect your monitor to Secondary VGA or Primary VGA or DVI-I port. Installation 6

13 b) To connect two VGA monitors, connect one VGA monitor to Primary VGA and the other monitor to Secondary VGA port. c) To connect a DVI monitor and a VGA monitor, connect the DVI monitor to the DVI-D port and the VGA monitor to the Primary VGA port. Caution: Do not connect DVI-D and Secondary VGA monitors at the same time. 5. Connect the external powered speakers to the Audio Out port. 6. Connect the microphone to the Mic port. 7. Connect serial devices to the COM ports. 8. Connect the LAN cable to the RJ45 Ethernet Port. 9. Connect the AC power adapter to the AC Power In. Caution: Ensure that the COM1, COM2, DVI-I and VGA ports are adequately fastened with the screws provided with the cables. Connecting to the Server The Thin Client can be physically connected to the server/network by using a LAN connection through TCP/IP. To connect the client to a Local Area Network through TCP/IP. 1. Connect one end of a 10/100/1000 cable to the Ethernet Port in the client. 2. Connect the other end to a LAN hub as shown in Figure 3. Figure 2-2: LAN Connection through TCP/IP 3. Press the power button to switch on the Itona TC7521d. The front panel LED lights up and you will hear a beep. Subsequently, the application start-up screen appears. 7 Installation

18 4 Troubleshooting This chapter contains solutions for problems you may encounter while using the product. Problem The power-led on front panel does not glow when the client is switched on. There is no display on the monitor, though the powerindicating LED glows. The mouse (or keyboard) does not work when the client is switched on. Solution Ensure that the power cord is plugged into an AC outlet. Check the fuse in the power-plug, if available. Ensure that the video cable is properly connected. Ensure that the mouse (or keyboard) is plugged into the correct PS/2 port. Troubleshooting 12
