1 Introduction Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Caution: Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. Introduction The IPG Photonics LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS is a high-accuracy flat sheet cutting system designed to take advantage of the high beam quality found in IPG Fiber Lasers. The workstation is a CDRH Class I Laser System. It is comprised of a precise motion system with high-speed linear motor driven stages for X and Y motion, and a ball screw-driven stage for Z motion. The system is compatible with IPG YLS series lasers and can be used for a variety of laser cutting applications. The beam delivery is an IPG Photonics FLC-D30 cutting head with options for coaxial viewing via a CCD camera. This document describes all the facility requirements needed for installation. 2 Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Safety Personnel Safety IPG Photonics LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS enclosed laser workstations are Class 1 laser products. While performing their intended function, Class 1 products must prevent human exposure to emissions beyond those indicated in Title 21, Volume 8, Chapter I, Subchapter J, Part , Table I. Therefore they typically pose no known hazard to operators, routine maintenance personnel, or the public. Before the workstation is delivered and installed, protective eyewear or a face shield, and PPE (personal protective equipment, which includes thermal gloves since the parts could be extremely hot after cutting) must be obtained for anyone who may be present when the system is operating. The eyewear must protect against the light wavelengths used by the specific workstation. It must also have a sufficient optical density to safely limit each person s exposure. Each system in the facility may have different requirements. Check the laser manual for requirements. 3 Installation Space Installation Space System Layout The diagrams on pages 3 and 4 show the primary top, side, and front dimensions of the workstation and its peripheral units. The layout shown is for reference purposes only and may be modified slightly if necessary, after consulting with IPG Photonics Customer Service. In addition to the dimensions, the following clearance and location criteria must also be taken into account: Service access and operator aisle-ways must be maintained as defined in Top and Clearance View on page 4. The YLS Series Laser System must be located within 6m (20 ft) of the workstation. The chiller must be located within 7.5m (25 ft) of the laser and be free of any restrictions to its incoming air or exhaust. Due to the vibration sensitive nature of the system, it is preferred that the workstation is installed on a concrete, ground floor level. If that is not the case, the installation area should comply to a Vibration Criteria (VC) curve, VC-A, maximum of 50 micrometers/sec, rms. 6 Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Electrical Power Requirements The customer is responsible for the primary electrical power drops and must provide the electrical power lines for the workstation, the external YLS-Series laser system, and the laser chiller unit. Refer to The LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS requires a steady supply of clean, compressed air to operate the stage purging system and various servo-controls, and to operate the optional automatic door system if so equipped. on page 12 for the electrical specifications. Workstation Power The electrical supply line for the workstation is fed through the cord-grip opening on the roof of the enclosure. Refer to Figure 2 below. The facility must provide a direct power line to the workstation that is capable of the following electrical ratings. Note: All electrical connections are four wire; three phase, one ground. 7 Electrical Power Requirements YLS Series Laser Power The YLS Series Laser System has a 10-ft pendant cable coming out of it. The connector supplied on the cord is a NEMA L16-30P: 3-Pole 4-Wire, 30A, 3-Phase, 480V. 9 Customer Interface Panel Customer Interface Panel The LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS customer interface panel provides connections for computer networks and external controls and indicators. The panel is located on the left-rear upper section of the workstation at the right-rear corner as shown in Figure 4. This connection is made by IPG Microsystems during installation. 9

10 Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Ethernet Connections The four locking and sealing RJ45 Ethernet sockets on the right are computer network connections. Each one is tied to a specific data management function. The two laser Ethernet cables are routed within the LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS system and are provided by IPG Photonics. The Ethernet cables to the Programming Port and to the Internet Access connectors are for external access and must be provided by the customer. The Programming Port should be kept sealed off with the provided RJ45 cap when not in use to prevent contamination from dust and debris. 11 Process Assist Gas Process Assist Gas The LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS system features electronically controlled inputs for two cutting gasses nitrogen and oxygen as a process assist gas at the cutting head. The On/Off and pressure controls are rated up to 3000 psi (2,069 kpa). The gases are supplied by the facility. The gas connections are on the rear of the enclosure. Refer to Figure 8. 12 Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Compressed Air The LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS requires a steady supply of clean, compressed air to operate the stage purging system and various servo-controls, and to operate the optional automatic door system if so equipped. The location of the compressed air connection is in the lower right rear corner of the workstation as depicted in Figure 9. 13 Laser/Optics Chiller Laser/Optics Chiller WARNING! Caution: Do not use de-ionized (DI) water, additives or any water other than what is prescribed in the specification below. Use of any other type of water will void the system warranty. Be sure to drain the coolant tank before transporting the chiller from one location to another. The hardness of the water should not exceed 0,25 dh. Cutting head cooling: approximately 1.9 US GPM (7 l/min) water between 70 and 75 F (21-25 C) 13

14 Facility Requirements LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS Workstation Exhaust The LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS has a workstation exhaust system that requires suction to remove debris, excess heat, and processing vapors and prevent them from escaping into the surrounding area. The exhaust connection is located at the rear of the enclosure. The workstation must be connected to a facility-provided industrial ventilation system that safely exhausts waste gases and debris from the facility. IPG Photonics also offers optional fume & particle extraction and spark arrestor systems. Refer to Fume and Debris Extractor (Optional) on page 15 and Spark Arrestor (Optional) on page 17.! WARNING! The gases ventilated from your system may be toxic. The gases must be expelled completely outside your facility and in accordance with local, regional and national standards. 15 Fume and Debris Extractor (Optional) Fume and Debris Extractor (Optional) IPG Photonics can provide an optional fume and debris extractor system for the LaserCube SYS-4x4-YLS. We have incorporated this extraction system into our workstation design and recommend it as the best solution for the safe and efficient elimination of smoke, fumes, dust and powders that are generated in the 4 x 4 cutting process. The extraction system features a revolutionary roto-pulse filter cleaning technique and a convenient large capacity debris removal tray. 17 Spark Arrestor (Optional) Spark Arrestor (Optional) IPG Photonics can provide an optional inline spark arrestor for the LaserCube SYS- 4x4-YLS. The device is a static mixing device that operates by cooling glowing embers within the exhaust ducting system. It cools the sparks by changing the characteristics of the gas flow through the duct from laminar to turbulent flow. The unit is installed in between the workstation s exhaust plenum and the extraction duct work. Refer to the floor plan layout in Top and Clearance View on page 4. There are no additional power or airflow considerations or requirements for the facility in utilizing this device. However, the length of the exhaust duct will increase by the length of the spark arrestor which is approximately 8-inches (20 cm)..2 m 8 in Figure 13: Optional Inline Spark Arrestor 17
