4 D-RM Drives D-RMs are read-only hase-dual ptical devices D-RMs store data only on the bottom of the D he surface of a D-RM stores data as lands (raised areas) and pits (recessed areas), each representing a or 0 respectively D-RMs are laid out as one continuous spiral of sectors of equal length that hold equal amounts of data DW

6 D-RM Drives A laser beam inside the drive distinguishes the lands and pits by the amount of deflection or scattering when it hits the surface A small motor powers an actuator arm that moves the laser beam to the sector to be read he speed of the spinning disc is altered so that the arm spends the same amount of time over any sector creating a constant linear velocity (V) DW

7 D-RM Interfaces ID interface can share an ID adapter cable with a hard drive, usually as a slave drive SSI interface using a SSI host adapter SSI interface with the connection housed on a sound card A proprietary expansion card that works only with D-RMs from a particular manufacturer A proprietary connection on a sound card USB or firewire interface for external drives DW

10 DVD echnology Digital Versatile Disc echnology is designed to replace several other technologies such as R-RMs with DVD-RM Audio Ds with DVD-Audio Video aser Discs - DVD-V DR with DVD-R D-RW with DVD-RAM DW

20 Image Sensing Image sensing may be done using either an infrared sensor or chargecoupled device (D) An image sensor is made up of three sensors that each filter a different color (red, green, or blue) he image sensor captures the light and converts it into analog voltage signals that will eventually be converted to pixels DW

21 Image Sensing hese signals are then amplified and buffered ext, the signals enter the AD where they are digitized he digital pixels are then processed by the image processor and stored A device driver must be installed on the so it read from the device storage area of the camera DW

24 aser rinter rocess Developing - toner is placed onto the drum where the charge has been reduced and a control blade prevents excessive toner from sticking to the cylinder surface ransferring - a strong electrical charge draws the toner off the drum onto the paper. Fusing - heat and pressure are used to fuse the toner to the paper DW
