Introuction Your Digta CorEx is a wireless ictating microphone that allows you to recor your ictations irectly on a PC. Please rea all of these instructions before using the evice. We o not accept any liability for amages resulting from non-observance of these operating instructions. Always keep these operating instructions in a safe place. If you pass Digta CorEx on to a thir party, please also inclue these operating instructions. 6 Safety instructions Safety instructions Intene use Use the Digta CorEx solely for recoring, storing an playback of ictation. Any other use is consiere not to be in compliance an is prohibite. Keep Digta CorEx an its accessories out of reach of chilren. Use Digta CorEx only in ry rooms. Do not make changes to the evice. Cleaning Clean evice only from the outsie with a ry, soft cloth. Do not use any chemical cleaning agents. Defect a WARNING Risk of injury by means of a efective evice! Do not attempt to repair a efective evice; take it to your ealer. You will fin our contact aress uner: Disposal Do not ispose of electrical evices in househol waste. They must be taken to a recycling center that accepts electrical evices. Use batteries must be ispose of in a esignate recycling container. Electrical hazars a WARNING Risk of fatal injury from electrical current! The power supply runs on 230 V alternating current; thus there exists basically the risk of electric shock. Please observe the following: Never touch plug of power supply with wet hans. Always pull out power cable from socket irectly with the plug, never with the power cable since it coul tear. Ensure that power cable is not bent, clampe, run over, or in contact with heat sources. Operate evice only if electrical voltage inicate on type plate correspons to electrical voltage of your socket. Wrong voltage can estroy the evice.

7 Safety instructions Hanling batteries a WARNING Risk of injury ue to wrong hanling of batteries! The evice runs on batteries. Please observe the following: Do not ispose of the batteries in fire. Do not short-circuit contacts. Risk of explosion. Do not store batteries loosely in pockets, o not take apart or moify. Risk of burns ue to leaks. Charge batteries only via ocking station or in ictation microphone. Risk of explosion if battery is charge with excessive voltage or excessive current. The performance features escribe by Grunig Business Systems only apply to genuine Grunig Business Systems accessories. Please make sure to choose only genuine accessories from Grunig Business Systems. Prouct liability an warranty service are provie only in this case. 8 Start-up Start-up System requirements DigtaSoft/DigtaSoft Pro, as of V4.2.0 by Grunig Business Systems or compatible ictation software by other manufacturers. Processor (500 MHz or higher) Winows 2000 SP4 (Rollup 1), Winows XP SP2, Winows Vista USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 MAPI compatible program for connection (e.g. Microsoft Outlook) Connecting ocking station Place ocking station [2] near the PC. Connect plug of power supply (as seen from the back) to left jack on ocking station. Connect power plug to a 230 V power socket. The orange LED [4] on ocking station briefly illuminates when current supply is available. Connect USB cable to PC an ocking station. For this purpose, plug USB cable (as seen from the back) into right jack of ocking station an the other en into USB connection of the PC.

9 Start-up The green LED [3] on ocking station blinks as soon as ocking station of Digta CorEx is properly recognize by the PC. Installing software Recoring an playback of ictations with Digta CorEx requires ictation software to be installe on the PC, e.g. DigtaSoft or DigtaSoft Pro by Grunig Business Systems. For aitional installing information, see operation instructions of ictation software. Charging battery Prior to initial use, the battery of the ictation microphone must be charge. Optionally, the ictation microphone can be supplie with power by means of USB aapter (see section "Connecting ictation microphone irectly to PC"). Place ictation microphone [1] into ocking station [2]. The orange LED [4] inicates that battery is being charge. When LED goes out, the battery is completely charge. The charging process oes not start immeiately, rather after several minutes. Switching on ictation microphone Press On/Off button [8] on right sie of ictation microphone [1] an hol until company logo appears in isplay [17]. On ocking station [2] the green LED [3] signals the successful registration of the ictation microphone at ocking station by continuous illumination.

10 Start-up 10 Setting language To conserve the battery, the evice switches to sleep moe if no button is presse on the ictation microphone for an extene time. By pressing any button, the evice becomes operational again. If evice is not use for an extene time, it switches off completely. The ictation microphone features a system menu for internal settings. During initial start-up, it is practical to set the isplay language. Aitional configuration options via system menu are escribe in section Settings in system menu. Briefly press On/Off button [8] on ictation microphone [1] until the text Menu appears at bottom left of isplay text. Press blue button Menu [10]. Move selection (marker) from one menu item to the next via the yellow button (up) [15] an F3 button (own) [13] on ictation microphone. Select entry Language an press re button OK [16]. The corresponing submenu appears. Select esire language an press re button OK. Press blue button CANC to exit system menu.

11 Operation Operation Recoring new ictation Switch on ictation microphone [1]. Start ictation software. Move slie switch [14] to e position. Press blue button [10] on ictation microphone. The isplay [17] shows reainess to recor by the pause symbol. If you leave the reception area of the ocking station uring recoring, the wireless connection to the ictation microphone is interrupte an the ictation is place in a buffer up to 1 minute (see section How to eal with interrupte wireless connection ). At the same, the recoring inicator [18] blinks re. The ictation microphone is now reay to recor. Move slie switch to f position an ictate into microphone [9]. The recoring symbol appears on isplay, an recoring inicator illuminates permanently re. Interrupting ictation Move slie switch [14] to e position. The pause symbol appears on the isplay [17]. The recoring inicator [18] blinks re. 11

12 Operation Continuing ictation Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] to f position an ictate into microphone [9]. Playing back ictation Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] to i position (rewin) or h (fast forwar) to reach esire text passage. During fast forwar/rewin, the accoring symbols appear on the isplay [17]. Move slie switch to f position. The ictation is playe back at the current position. Overwrite ictation Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] to i position (rewin) or h (fast forwar) an search for passage in ictation to be overwritten. Move slie switch to e position. The stop symbol appears on the isplay [17]. Press re button g [16]. The recoring inicator [18] blinks re. Move slie switch to f position an ictate the change into microphone [9]. Starting at preselecte position, the ictation will be overwritten. Aing to ictation Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] to h position (fast forwar) an search for en of ictation. Move slie switch to e position. Press re button g [16]. Move slie switch to f position an ictate the aition into microphone [9]. The ictation aition will be at the en. 12

13 Operation Inserting recoring. Aitional recorings can be inserte into an existing ictation without overwriting the ol ictation. Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] to i position (rewin) or h (fast forwar) an search for ictation passage where text is to be inserte. The function can vary, epening on applie ictation software. Move slie switch to e position. Press yellow button Insert [15]. Move slie switch to f position an ictate text to be inserte into microphone [9]. Starting at preselecte position, new text is integrate into existing ictation. Move slie switch to e position. Recoring is interrupte. To continue, move slie switch to f position. Press yellow button Insert. The inserte recoring is finishe. Finishing ictation Depening on applie ictation software, it is possible to insert aitional information text (info) into ictations. For aitional information, see operating instructions of ictation software. Finishing recoring: Move slie switch [14] on ictation microphone [1] briefly to i position (rewin) or h (fast forwar). To finish ictation: Press blue button [10]. 13

14 Extene operation Depening on applie ictation software, function of the blue button can vary. For aitional information, see operating instructions of ictation software. Switching off ictation microphone Keep On/Off button [8] on ictation microphone [1] presse until inication in isplay [17] goes out. Extene operation How to eal with interrupte wireless connection In case the wireless connection between ictation microphone an ocking station becomes interrupte, a bar appears in the upper part of the isplay that turns orange with increasing talk time. The text is then store in the ictation microphone. A signal souns in intervals of a few secons, warning of a buffer overflow. b Caution Maximum talk time without wireless connection to ocking station is 1 minute. If wireless interruption lasts longer, recoring is interrupte an two short signals are issue. To continue ictation without interruptions, re-enter the reception area of the ocking station with the ictation microphone within one minute. As soon as the ictation microphone is in the reception area of the ocking station again an slie switch is move to e position, the content of the buffer is transferre to the ocking station. A blue bar appears on the isplay, whose fill level correspons to the buffer content to be transferre. At the same time, the recoring inicator blinks re. 14

15 Extene operation b CAUTION! To prevent ata loss, wait until transfer from buffer has been complete. Dictation has been completely transferre to PC as soon as both bars have isappeare from isplay. Connecting ictation microphone irectly to PC The ictation microphone can be connecte irectly to PC by means of a special USB aapter for operation without battery. At time of elivery, the USB aapter is locate in the ocking station at the receiver for spare battery. Pull USB aapter [7] in irection of the arrow from ocking station [2]. b CAUTION! Carefully lift cover plate of aapter by means of a ball-pen tip or screw river. Connect USB plug to jack. 15

16 Extene operation Close cover plate. Ensure that the nibs of the cover plate properly fit into the grooves of the aapter housing. Push USB aapter on back of ictation microphone [1] in irection of arrow into battery holer. Remove battery [6] on back of ictation microphone in irection of arrow. The ictation microphone is now reay. Changing battery The useful life of Digta CorEx can be expane by means of a replacement battery, without causing longer pauses by battery charging times. A replacement battery is available as accessory an not inclue in the scope of elivery. Switch off ictation microphone [1]. Insert replacement battery into receiver of ictation microphone in reverse irection of arrow. The ictation microphone is now reay. An empty battery can be charge uring operation at the ocking station. Remove alreay existing battery or USB aapter from ocking station. 16

17 Extene operation Setting up function buttons Function buttons F1 to F3 [11-13] can be assigne with special functions. Set-up is performe via software AapterServer. Depening on applie ictation software, assignment of function buttons can vary. Insert battery to be charge completely into receiver of ocking station in reverse irection of arrow. The orange LED inicates that battery is being charge. When LED goes out, the battery is completely charge. The battery on the ocking station is only charge if ictation microphone is not locate in ocking station. Otherwise the battery in ictation microphone is charge first. The charging process oes not start immeiately, rather after several minutes. For aitional set-up information, see operating instructions of ictation software. Controlling ictation microphone via foot control The ictation microphone can be operate by means of a foot control (optionally available). This allows the control of ictation microphone functions without the use of hans. Connecting foot control Plug connection cable of foot control into the provie connection jack [23] on back of ocking station. 17

18 Extene operation To switch to recoring moe, briefly press own mile peal. Depening on applie ictation software, function of the foot control can vary. Using foot control The foot control assumes the following functions: Left peal Function of slie switch [14]. i (Rewin) Mile peal Function of re [16]/blue button [10]. g (Recoring) To recor a new ictation, press own mile peal until ictation software starts a new ictation. Right peal Function of slie switch [14]. e (Stop) f (Start) Connecting barcoe/rfid reaer The ictation microphone is esigne for connection of a barcoe or RFID reaer. This allows ientification of ictations by a coe. For connection, the existing cover strip must be replace. The evice is equippe with a special cover strip that leaves the connection channel for accessory evices open an supports the barcoe/rfid reaer. Remove existing cover strip [19] from ictation microphone [1]. 18

19 Extene operation Attach new cover strip to ictation microphone. Connect barcoe/rfid reaer to ictation microphone. See operating instructions of accessory evices. For etails on use of barcoe/rfid reaer see operating instructions of reaer an ictation software. Operating several ictation microphones/ocking stations To be able to recor with one ictation microphone in ifferent rooms with separate ocking stations, a ictation microphone can be operate on ifferent ocking stations. Registering at ifferent ocking stations Presetting Switch on ictation microphone [1]. In system menu, set option Station allocation to Dynamic pair. (see section "Settings in system menu ). The setting Dynamic pair. is a factory setting. Switch off ictation microphone. Registering Approach ocking station [2] with which connection is to be establishe, closely with ictation microphone [1]. Switch on ictation microphone. The green LED [3] of ocking station blinks fast when ictation microphone registers for the first time at the station. Press paging button [5] on ocking station. The ictation microphone is now connecte to ocking station. Repeat the registration process for each ocking station with which the ictation microphone is to be connecte. 19

20 Extene operation 20 Renewe registration is only require if ictation microphone has been isconnecte from ocking station for an extene time. Otherwise it is sufficient to switch on the ictation microphone in reception area of ocking station to establish connection. Permanent registration at a ocking station If several ocking station are in close proximity (e.g. in one room), the ictation microphone may only be connecte to one selecte station when switche on. Switch on ictation microphone [1] near the permanently assigne ocking station [2]. The ictation microphone registers in variable moe at the ocking station. In system menu, set option Station allocation to Static pair. (see section Settings in system menu ). The ictation microphone is now permanently linke to the ocking station an connects with it every time it is switche on. The setting can only be reverse by means of the permanently assigne ictation microphone. Installing firmware upate Firmware upates contain important manufacturer changes to the functions of Digta CorEx. New firmware is offere online at www. grunig-gbs.com. Downloas require an internet connection. b CAUTION! Prior to an upate check if a firmware with a higher version number is available. Do not interrupt the upate process! Incomplete firmware coul make the evice inoperative. Switch on ictation microphone [1]. Check firmware version in ictation microphone (see section Settings in system menu ). If a new firmware version for Digta CorEx is available online, ownloa the corresponing file onto the PC.

21 Extene operation Keep paging button [5] on ocking station [2] presse own for several secons. Now the Digta CorEx registers itself for ata transfer at the PC an is assigne with a separate rive letter. Copy the new firmware file CorEx.hex to the Digta CorEx rive. The ictation microphone shows the progress of the upate in isplay [17]. After successful transfer, the ictation microphone is reboote. Installation of firmware upate is now complete an ictation microphone is reay. Settings in system menu The ictation microphone features a system menu for internal settings. Accessing system menu Briefly press On/Off button [8] on ictation microphone [1] until the text Menu appears at bottom left of isplay text. Press blue button Menu [10]. The system menu consists of the following menu items: Connection Start pairing Stop pairing Connects the ictation microphone to a ocking station or isconnects an existing connection. This function is require for multiple evice operation (see section Operating several ictation microphone/ocking stations ). Version/Info Serial no. FW/Urloaer Display of serial number an firmware version. This function is require for firmware upate (see section Installing firmware upate ). Language Selecting isplay language. Station allocation Static pair. Dynamic pair. 21

22 Extene operation Depening on setting, the ictation microphone always permanently connects to a ocking station or searches for a nearby station in the reception area. This function is require for multiple evice operation (see section Operating several ictation microphones/ocking stations ). Changing settings Move selection (marker) from one menu item to the next via the yellow button (up) [15] an F3 button (own) [13] on ictation microphone [1]. Select entry an press re button OK [16]. The corresponing submenu appears. Select entry an press re button OK. Press blue button CANC [10] to exit system menu. If no button is presse for an extene time, system menu is automatically exite. 22

23 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Electrical evices can experience malfunctions. This must not always concern a fault on the evice. Thus, base on the following table, check if you can eliminate the malfunction yourself. Malfunction Possible cause Repair Device oes not switch on. Battery empty. Charge or replace battery.
