1 If Rainwise.NET Says No Radio Signal There are a number of issues that can cause No Radio Signal. I will start with basic test procedures. As always, make sure the system is turned on and the issue is not environmental. For steps to rule out environmental issues, please read the Environmental Issues guide. 1. Check the Battery: This can be done a few ways. You can download the station data from the RainWise.net page if you are logged into the account. Click The Download Button 1

2 Make sure the date range includes the time the system last communicated. Click Export. Click the downloaded file to export it. 2

Once you have exported the file, it will open into an excel spreadsheet. We are now looking for the last recorded battery voltage. The last recording will be at the bottom of the excel sheet.

The Station Voltage column is what you are looking for (this is the right- most column). A battery voltage below 6.00 is insufficient and will require a new battery. There may be further diagnosis required depending on how old the battery is. If the battery is 4-6 years old, it is most likely just an old dying battery. If the battery is dead in a much sooner timeframe, you will need to do more diagnosis. Please read the Battery dies too soon guide. Station is not Transmitting Part 2 We have determined the battery has a sufficient voltage and are proceeding to the next likely issue. Again, make sure the system is powered on. 1. Check the motherboard Status Light The motherboard is located behind the solar panel/cover. In order to remove the solar panel/ cover you will need a #2 Phillips head screw driver. There are four screws located on the cover, one at each corner. 3

When removing the solar panel, there will be two wires attached to the motherboard by a molex connection. Pull this connection apart by hand but take note of the orientation of the clips.

Once the solar panel/cover is removed from the enclosure, you will be looking at the motherboard. We want to make sure the status health light is flashing every two seconds. If this light is NOT flashing every two seconds there is an issue with the motherboard. To attempt to remedy this issue, there are a few things to try. This can be done by turning the power switch off for 30 seconds and then turning the system back on. 4

Double Check that the battery has more than 6- volts. Use a multi- meter to verify. If the status light is not flashing after these steps, it is time to contact RainWise and most likely receive a new motherboard. Station is not Transmitting Part 3 We have determined that the battery and the motherboard are operating correctly. There are a few remaining items to check. 1. Re- seat the Radio and check the antenna: This step is only for Long range stations. The radio is a blue chip labeled XBEE We want to remove the radio and re- insert it to ensure a good connection is being made. Power down the system. (The solar panel should already be removed by this stage. The XBEE chip is located as pictured below. 5

There is one last item on the motherboard that can prevent communication if it is set improperly. Check the D.I.P. switches: The D.I.P. switches control the firmware the motherboard is currently using.

Unless you are aware of the station being Coded due to interference, the system should normally have all the D.I.P. switches in the off position (downward) in a L.R system. If this is a 418 Mhz system, all D.I.P. switches will be down except #5. If the issue has not been resolved by this point, the next step will be to check the reception device (IP- 100, Display, CC3000 etc. ) Or contact RainWise directly. 6
