1 Gospeed.Racer Hub Assembly for the Asus EEEpc Before you begin: Please understand that these harnesses are all tested one at a time before I ship them. By installing this harness, you agree to assume any liability for damages incurred. Please take your time, and make sure there is NOTHING making contact with the motherboard that could cause a short. Please feel free to contact me at gospeed.racer@verizon.net if you should ever have any problems, concerns, or feedback Now, lets get started! 1) First, please make sure your EEE is safely powered down and remove your battery. Remove your memory cover if equipped. Prepare a static free workplace. 2) Disassemble your EEE down to the motherboard. If you have never done this before, there is a great tutorial by ta2cba from the eeeuser.com forum here: 3) With your motherboard in hand, find the camera connector in the upper, left hand corner of the board. Plug the male plug into this connector. Now, double check to verify you are in the correct port; the audio and fan use the same connector. 4) Wrap the wire through the cutout provided for the fan wire. You may want to use a bit of Kapton tape or hot glue to hold the wire. Avoid the areas with holes in the motherboard, as screws and posts will go there.

2 5) Lay down a layer of Kapton tape or adhesive sheet to the board where the device will go. You will want to make sure it is large enough to cover the area where your devices will fit. You may want to trial fit them in the space provided. Peel off the double sided tape from the hub, and fix it as shown to the side of the reset button and away from the hole in the board. Also peel and stick the USB ports. Again, it is best to mock it up with the case to see where things will end up.

3 6) Run the green ground wire over along the bottom of the memory connector and up to the area where the wifi card sits. Remove one screw from the card, and attach the ground terminal. Tighten firmly but do not over tighten!

4 7) Route the red power wire along the top of the board, away from any holes in the board that will contain screws later. Run it above the wifi card connector and locate the voltage regulator shown in the following picture. The tab on the far right in the picture, colored in red and marked with a + is where you will be soldering the positive wire. 8) You will want to use a tiny amount of flux if you have it available, as well as adding a dab of solder. Adding solder will help melt the solder that is on the regulator. Strip the wire about 1/16 and make sure to tin the wire with a bit of solder. Hold the wire in place on top of the terminal and touch the iron to the top. If you have a proper iron, it should melt fairly fast, as soon as it melts (you will feel it drop a bit). Do not saturate the area with heat, if you cant get it to melt in about 5 seconds STOP and find a proper iron. I use a station, set about watts.

5 9) Now, route the Bluetooth module (if equipped) over to the opposite side of the motherboard through the cutouts provided in the board. Peel and stick it here as shown 10) Go back over your wiring and make sure everything is secure enough to be positioned in the case without moving. You may need to use some Kapton tape to secure the wires. If you don t have the Kapton tape, use hot glue. PLEASE make sure there are NO components touching the board directly! This can cause many different problems. If there is ANY contact, adjust or modify the parts so they are clear of any components. This is THE most critical step of the entire install! 11) Reassemble your EEE, checking to make sure everything fits securely and is not pinching any wires. Re-route the webcam connector to the new connector in the hinge area. 12) Reinstall your memory cover (if equipped) 13) You are now finished! When your operating system finishes loading, your device will be ready for use. If you have the internal Bluetooth, you will need to install the drivers.

6 14) If the machine does not detect the devices or the hub; Restart your EEE and press F2 to enter Bios when you first see video. 15) Navigate to Advanced, Onboard Devices Configuration, and look for Onboard Camera. If it is not on the list, the USB device is not connected, or there is a problem with the connections. Change the setting to Enabled if it is disabled. 16) Press F10 and Enter to reboot.
