Make sure the source device is correct and workable. To guarantee data consistency, we highly recommend the capacity of source and targets should be the same. It is strongly suggested to use "Copy+Compare" to achieve a perfect duplication. Safety Precautions The warranty will expire if damage is incurred resulting from noncompliance with theses operating instructions. Store the equipment safely when not in used and keep out of the reach of children and infants. Please turn off the power before replace the socket. Never turn off the power while processing the firmware update. Use only approved power sources. The product is only suitable for operation in dry, dust free, clean environment. Do not allow liquids or foreign objects to enter. Failure to do so may severely damage your duplicator. 4

5 Preparation Tips before You Start Warranty & Notice Make sure to use stable power supply. Please use at clean & dry environment. Please keep the environment well ventilated. When the duplicator operates, it is normal for the machine to heat up. Please do not move the duplicator during operation to ensure better operation. Please do not remove HDDs during operation to avoid damage. Please use power supply of its original manufacturer to ensure working normal. Eliminate Static electricity: Static electricity may cause duplication error. Please pay attention to the duplicator environment and operators equipment. It is recommended to purchase static electricity elimination equipments to avoid static electricity shock when stay in high static electricity. Notice Symbols Special items, procedures, or notes should be noticed by users before operation. Note: It refers to related operations on the duplicator, special details, tips to know, suggestions or more effective operation. Caution: It refers to operations need to be followed or to be careful to avoid mistakes. 5

6 1 Product Overview Overview The IT series HDD duplicator is specially designed for professional use. The smart Quick Copy(System and Files) mode supports FAT16/32/64, NTFS(Windows), ext2/3/4(linux), HFS/HFS + /HFX(Mac) formats and can copy only data contained area, which therefore highly increases the production efficiency. Furthermore, the innovated design of interface can help you easily swap HDDs during operation and reduce the time and effort while repairing. The IT series has ultra high speed duplication, and each SATA interface is independent. That's why no matter are 1 target or 15 targets duplication, it has the same performance of high transmission speed, far beyond PC-based duplicators. Comply with the U.S. Department of Defense's erasing standard (DoD M) and Secure Erase (NIST800-88). It is important to make sure the data inside the disregarded HDD will not be retrieved and can be safely transferred. 6

7 Features Product Overview 1 Ultra High Speed Ultra high transmission speed for each port operating individually. Replaceable SATA Interface Module Revolutionary easily replaceable SATA interface module. Check accessories page. Easy to plug in and pull out HDDs, easy to replace new module, and connect IDE converter. Quick Copy Mode This mode can identify the HDD formats of FAT, NTFS, Mac(HFS, HFSX, HFS + ) and Linux. It will only copy the data and system contained area, which can highly enhance the copying efficiency. 4 Kinds Of Copy Modes The four different copy modes to meet different work situation needs, Systems and Files, All Partition, Whole HDD, Percentage Copy. 4 Erase Methods Quick Erase, Full Erase, DoD Erase, and Secure Erase. Auto Power Control System To protect the HDD from damage during removal from the duplicator. Ultra High Speed Data "Compare" Function The very special hardware bit-forbit "Compare" function is the most secure way to 100% guaranteed accuracy of data duplication. It takes the same speed as copying. There is no other duplicator that can do such a performance so fast and accurate. Support 3.5", 2.5" and 1.8" HDD Both 2.5"and 3.5" SATA co-exist without requiring an additional adapter or a manual change interface cable. Multi-interface Are Supported Duplicator supports 3.5"/1.8" IDE, esata, ivdr, microsata, msata, CF, SD, etc. via interface adaptor. 11 Reminder Prepare before You Start Reminder Remember to assemble HDD holder to make sure HDD is fastened on the duplicator. It reduces vibration while motor in HDD operates. HDD holder Assemble the holder It is suggested to turn off fan when duplicate HDD other than 3.5", which reduces vibration while fan spinning. Make sure to use stable power supply. Please use at clean & dry environment. 11

16 3 How To Copy HDDs How to Copy HDDs Start to Copy Step 1 Prepare a source HDD and target HDD (*it's strongly recommended to the size of source and target are the same) Source HDD Target HDD Note SATA interface applies on the duplicator, no matter SATA 1.0/2.0/3.0 are all supported. Assemble adaptors if user needs to copy device with other interface, e.g. IDE, esata, msata. Step 2 Place source HDD at source port, targets HDD to other ports. Step 3 Use to select "1. Copy" then press "OK". Duplication will proceed. Note When all the target HDD ports are plugged, duplicator would start copying automatically. If not all are plugged, the number of targets shows on LCD. Press "OK" to start. 16

17 The information below shows on LCD during duplication. How To Copy HDDs 3 Note The number shows in the ( ) is the port # of the slowest HDD. Press together for 5 seconds to stop operation on the slowest HDD. It is able to use "On-Time Monitor" feature to check operation speed of every port. Step 4 Quantity of copy OK/Fail and duplication time would show on LCD after duplication completes. Set-up before Copy Tasks Please pay attention to the following 2 settings before copy. ❶ Set Copy Area of HDD Choose appropriate copy area can greatly reduce operation time and have better efficiency. There are four copy modes with different copy area : 1 System and Files, 2 All available partition area, 3 Whole HDD, 4 User set the percentage range of HDD. 17

The system will analyze the source HDD and identify the data area to copy. As long as the source HDD's data within the target HDD's space, the copy will be processed. FAT16/32/64, NTFS, ext2/3/4, HFS +, HFS, HFX are supported for this copy mode. Source Duplication Target Partition 1(150G) Data 30G Partition 1(200G) Data 90G 500GB 500GB Only 120G data area will be copied, it takes 12mintues. 18

19 How To Copy HDDs 3 2 ALL Partitions This mode will bit by bit copy all of the partitions no matter there is data exist or not. The capacity of target HDD has to be bigger than the partition required capacity Source Duplication Target Partition 1(150G) Data 30G Partition 1(200G) Data 90G 500GB 500GB Only 350G partition area will be copied, it takes 48mintues. 3 Whole HDD It is to copy the whole source HDD, no matter of the content, format, partition or empty space. This mode will take much more time to duplicate the source HDD completely. Source Duplication Target Partition 1(150G) Data 30G Partition 1(200G) Data 90G 500GB 500GB Entire 500GB HDD will be copied. 19

20 3 How To Copy HDDs 4 Percentage(%) Copy the percentage selected of source HDD. Source Duplication Target 25% 32% 25% 32% 500GB Only copy the selected area, other area or data will not be copied. Note Duplication time is affected by "transfer speed of HDD". Below is one example of copy area selection e.g. There are two partitions in one 500GB HDD. Data and OS(120GB) are saved in the partition. System and files All partition Whole HDD 500GB 500GB 500GB Copy/Compare area 30G+90G= 120G Copy/Compare area 150G+200G= 350G Copy/Compare area 500G Note It is recommended to execute "2.Compare" after Copy to confirm the accuracy. It is recommended to copy data by function "3.Copy+Compare". 20

21 How To Copy HDDs 3 ❷ Set Tolerance of Bad Track Select function 6.3 Skip Error to set the number of error you accept to skip during copy process. If the HDD is very critical for content correctness, it is strongly recommended to keep the Skip Error to be "0" ➌ Auto Skip Lower-Speed HDDs Set to check HDDs lowest tolerance speed. Users can choose Don t care or set the speed value among 10/20/30~300MB/Second. The system will skip any HDD which cannot reach the minimum speed. This setting enables to speed up copying and select HDD speed higher than the setting. ➍ Auto Skip Lower-Speed Source Users can choose Yes or No to check speed of source HDDs or don t check. Troubleshooting of Copy Fails Check if too many bad tracks on HDDs cause duplication failures. Check the setting of "6.3 Skip Error". Reset the number to 0 and copy error disks again. 21

22 3 How To Copy HDDs Make sure all data cables are properly and firmly connected. Make sure the capacity of source HDD is smaller than target. Check HDDs capacity by selecting "5.1 Show Disk Info" HPA Setting HPA area, host protected area, hidden protected area, is kept invisible space for booting area, recovery data or blocked bad-sector, etc. By creating HPA, it resets max sectors and keeps some space for HPA area. It reduces the reported size of HDD. 1500GB User Area HPA Setting 1000GB User Area 500GB HPA 500GB HPA space after setting 1500GB 22 User Area

23 How To Copy HDDs 3 Options about HPA settings have the following two type,: Do not keep source HPA area 1. No, Keep HPA: Copy data from source to target and keep the target HPA setting during Copy. 2. No, Clear HPA: Copy data from source to target and remove the target HPA setting during Copy. 3. No, Setting HPA: Copy data from source to target and set the target HDD the same HPA setting as the source HDD during Copy. 4. Clear HPA Setting at Erase: During erase tasks, delete HPA setting of all targets. It will clear the HPA setting first and then do erase. Keep source HPA area 1. Copy and Setting: Copy data from source to target including HPA area of source. It will not only set the target HDD the same HPA setting as the source HDD, but also copy the data in the HPA area. 2. Keep HPA Setting at Erase: During erase tasks, it will not execute erase in HPA area, will keep the setting and the data as original. ` ❶ Copy HPA Area This function will affect the HPA setting of target HDD during Copy. The default setting is "No, keep HPA". This setting enables to setup whether to copy hidden area of the source. The users can select from "Copy HPA area", "No, Keep HPA", "No, Clear HPA", or "No, Setting HPA ". 23

24 3 How To Copy HDDs ❷ Clear HPA at ERASE This function will affect the HPA setting of HDDs during Erase. The default setting is "Clear HPA Setting". This setting enables to setup whether to erase hidden area of the targets during erasing tasks. The users can select from "Clear HPA Setting", or "Keep HPA Setting". To set it as "Clear HPA Setting", the system will delete HPA area when erase targets. The system will not delete HPA area when set it as "Keep HPA Setting". ❸ Set Target HDD HPA Enter table "5.Utility", and select "4. Set Target HDD HPA". This function can set the target HPA area the same setting as the source. Note Please note that this function is not to copy source HPA area to target but only resetting target HPA as the same size. 24

25 How To Confirm Copy Accuracy? 4 How to Confirm Copy Accuracy Confirm Accuracy by Comparison Step1 Prepare source HDD and target HDD. Source HDD Target HDD Step 2 Place source HDD at source port, targets HDD to other ports. Step 3 Use to select "2.Compare" then press "OK". Data compare will proceed. Note When all the target HDD ports are plugged, duplicator would start copying automatically. If not all are plugged, the number of targets shows on LCD. Press "OK" to start. Setting of Compare Function It is able to set compare area of HDD at function 6.2 There are four different compare area for selection : 1 System and Files, 2 All available partition area, 3 Whole HDD, 4 Percentage Compare. Note It is recommended to execute Compare after Copy to confirm the accuracy. 25

26 5 How To Erase HDDs How to Erase HDDs Caution Please notice the data within the HDD will be erased after executing the function. To cancel operation of any erasing mode, press <ESC/X> key and hold continuously for 3 seconds to exit any erasing tasks. Data Sanitization Step 1 Prepare the HDD for erasure. Step 2 Insert the HDD into target port. Note Function Erase Master is to determine erase source HDD or not. The default setting is "Disable erase source HDD". Step 3 Use to select the desired erase method, then press "OK". Data Erase will proceed. Setting of Erase Function There are 4 erase methods: Quick Erase, Full Erase, DoD Erase, DoD Erase Comp and Secure Erase. 26

27 How To Erase HDDs 5 Safety Time Short Quick Erase Full Erase Safety Time Medium Safety Time Longer Source Safety Time Medium DoD Erase Secure Erase ❶ Quick Erase (System & Files) The function will ONLY erase the index of the HDD. It is the quickest way to erase HDD. It will damage the data in HDD, please make sure you have backup all Safety important data before using this function. Time Short Safety Time Longer ❷ Full Erase Full Erase DoD Erase The function will erase the whole sectors Source on the target HDD. It will take longer time than quick erase. It will damage the data in HDD, please make sure you have Secure backup all important data before using Erase this function. Safety Time Medium 27

28 5 How To Erase HDDs ❸ DoD Erase (DoD M) This is to comply with the U.S.A. Department of Defense (DoD5220) standard to fully erase the HDD three times bit by bit to rewrite HDD to guarantee the data was deleted. It will damage the data in HDD, please make sure you have backup all important data before using this function. ❹ DoD Erase Comp (DoD M) Besides DoD erase, this function will also execute compare function to make sure the random bit was correctly written. This way of erase is to erase HDD over each sector three times: the first time with zeros (0x00), second time with 0xFF and the third time with random characters. There is one final pass to compare random characters by reading. It will damage the data in HDD, please make sure you have backup all important data before using this function. Note The task time of DoD Erase mode is 3 times longer than Full Erase mode. The time of DoD Erase+Compare is 4 times longer than Full Erase mode. 28

29 Select random pattern ➀ Overwrite by fixed method How To Erase HDDs ➁ Overwrite by random method 26AE891DF 74519D55C E E 48AAB6890 DD51473D AA9A82BBE 55713C485 9CBFFA147 ❺ Secure Erase (NIST800-88) The international authorized high standard Secure Erase function, it complies with standard of secure erase (NIST800-88). It overwrites every single track on the hard drive with "00". Even HPA/DCO or other data area which are not able to load, can be erased all together. Caution Please DO NOT disrupts Secure Erase during operation. Otherwise, it might cause HDDs error, unreadable, unusable, which cannot be identified by the duplicators and computers. If fails, execute secure erase mode again. 29

30 6 Update BIOS Update BIOS How to Update BIOS There are 2 ways for BIOS update. ❶ Update by HDD Step 1 Prepare one HDD and connect it to source port, then select function "5.2.2 Create Update HDD". Step 2 Format the HDD. Note Before updating firmware, one FAT, 2GB partition will be formatted in HDD. That would reduce searching time, and speed up firmware update. The data saved in this HDD will be erased. Step 3 Download the latest firmware from PC and save it in HDD. 30

31 Update BIOS 6 Step 4 Insert HDD into source port (first port), select function Update BIOS. Update would complete in one minute. ❷ Update by USB Drive Only IT700H&G IT1500H&G are available for USB drive update. Step 1 Save the downloaded firmware into USB drive Note Make sure the partition format of USB drive is FAT16/32. 32 7 PC-Monitoring The Work Status Real-Time PC-Monitoring How to Use Monitoring on Log PC-Monitoring brings convenience of PC-Monitoring and Log Report Export, so production management is easier, more efficient, and reducing labor cost. Preparation before Starting Step 1 Install Synchronous Monitor Software LV07H, and its driver PL Step 2 Make sure USB cable is connected between PC and duplicator. Step 3 After duplicator is booted up, open Synchronous Monitor Software LV07H. LV07H would show the information and status of the connected duplicator. Step 4 When the status shows ON LINE, the duplicator is connected successfully. Click the duplicator to start PC-monitoring. Step 5 If the status is not shown ON LINE, please check step 1~3 again. 32

33 PC-Monitoring The Work Status 7 Operation of PC-Monitoring Note Please use specific computer to do PC-Monitoring, and prevent PC operating other tasks. The information of PC-Monitoring can be instant synchronized. Step 1 The status of duplicator shows ON LINE, then open monitoring screen. The program is ready to work when the status show STANDBY. Step 2 After placing source/target HDD on duplicator, instruct jobs for duplicator. The program shows all related information of HDDs. It is able to monitor detail information of every HDD through PC-Monitoring. E.g. HDD model, S/N, copy speed. (Note: copy speed varies all the time during operation). It is able to PC-Monitor all the function and work progress during operation. Log Report Browse Log Report through PC Besides PC-Monitoring, LV07H can browse Log Report of duplicator through PC Step 1 After finishing all the task of duplicator, press ESC on duplicator. The status shown on LV07H is STANDBY. Click Log Data on the top of window, then select Open Log Window. 33

34 7 PC-Monitoring The Work Status Step 2 After entering Open Log Window, select the date or period of time for log report generation. Clear Log Report (function 7.4.1) After user entering password, the log report saved in duplicator can be wiped out. Please contact your merchandise for default password. Note Please close PC-Monitoring program LV07H or disconnect PC from duplicator while clearing log report. Step 3 After selecting the date or period of time for log report generation, log report would shows. The HDD Duplicator is able to record up to 30,000 records of operation information of HDD. One operation on a single HDD is saved as one record. E.g., there are 21 records saved when duplicate from one HDD to 20 targets. Note If there is no record saved at the selected period of time, or record had been wiped out, the program would show No match records! Background information of this log report Original Source Record: Manage and control the source, confirm the size of the data are consistent. Detailed task records: best reference for production and HR management. Time of execution HDD S/N Yield analysis: the pass and failure rate for yield records. 34

35 PC-Monitoring The Work Status 7 Note It can save up to 30,000 pcs of records. One instruction onto one HDD is recorded as one piece of log record. (e.g. duplication from 1 HDD to 21 targets will be recorded to 21 piece of log. Export Log Report The USB port at the front of duplicator is able to firmware update, and also for Log Report exportation. After finishing all the task of duplicator, enter function 7. Log Report Management then choose to export log report of day, recent log report, or select a period of time. Export log report of today Export Log Report of today via USB port to USB drive. Export recent log report To output the log records in recent 1day to 28 days via USB port to USB drive Export report from a period of time To output the log records of a period time via USB port to USB drive. Note The Log Reports that exported from PC-Monitoring program or USB port are both.txt file. It does not require any special software for exportation, which is for the convenience of user acquiring report for analysis. 35

36 8 FAQ System FAQ Questions LCD shows "HDD Too Small" What OS does duplicator support? Can duplicator copy IDE HDD, SSD, msata, etc? How long does it take to duplicate? How big the capacity of HDD does duplicator support? Can I interupt the copy task while it is not finished? Will it be safe if I remove the HDD right after copy process? Solution 1. The capacity of source HDD is bigger than target HDD. E.g., copy 500GB HDD to 250GB HDD 2. The capacity of source and target are the same, but internal capacity might be slightly different Duplicator copies any kinds of OS Yes, it can. As long as adaptor can adopt to SATA interface For example, duplicator supports 8.1GB/min copy speed. It takes around 2 min to copy Win8 OS(approx 12GB) For example, the duplicator supports up to 6TB HDD, and MBR/GBT format HDD Yes, the program (copy, compare and erase) can be stopped while it is in processing by pressing ESC for aobut 3~4 seconds Yes, the device will automatically cut off power of each port to protect HDD during removal from the duplicator.
