2 INTRODUCTION The 1788HP-EN2PA-R provides the user with Profibus PA, Ethernet and power redundancy architectures. The purpose of this document is to provide an understanding of the Profibus PA redundancy options that are available with the 1788HP-EN2PA-R and to highlight the benefits and sets required to implement them. 2

3 HARDWARE MEDIA For media redundancy the user can select from dual trunk or ring redundant media architecture. When selecting the architecture the user will need to select the correct setup in the 1788HP- EN2PA-R AOP. Please refer to the software setup for more detail. Below are examples of Dual Trunk and Ring architectures. NOTE: The user will only be able to create the redundant media architecture when using the 1788HP-PARJB. Dual Trunk NOTE: When using a dual trunk the total difference in cable length between Trunk Cable A and Trunk Cable B must not exceed 250m (820ft). This applies even when using multiple junction boxes. Ring When using a ring the user will need to enable the auto-terminate function on the 1788HP- PARJB. Please refer to the 1788HP-PARJB quick start guide. Failing to do this might cause network termination issues which can cause the network to become unstable. ULimitations The 1788HP-EN2PA-R can support a maximum count 24 field devices and 500mA current supply per trunk. UBenefits Network is protected against a segment open circuit and short circuit conditions provided a functional path exists to each instrument. 3

4 MASTER The 1788HP-EN2PA-R can support a maximum of 2 PA Masters on a single Profibus PA network. This can be done with various architectures as given in the software setup. The user will need to select the correct setup before downloading. Below is an example of a MulitMaster setup. When using only single trunk architecture the user can add any IEC61158 junction box. NOTE: When using certain MulitMaster architectures the user will need to set the 1788HP-PARJB to auto-terminate. Failing to do this might cause network termination issues which can cause the network to become unstable. The user can have both Master and Media redundancy running simultaneously as shown below: and Media redundancy Additional junction boxes can be added to the dual trunk. See Appendix A for all the various redundancy configurations. When using dual trunk architecture the user must use the 1788HP- PARJB. ULimitations A maximum of two 1788HP-EN2PA-R modules can be added to a single network. UBenefits Master Redundancy protects against the loss of communications to a master as well as the failure on a master 4

5 SOFTWARE The user will need to select the architecture used in the field before downloading. If the incorrect architecture is chosen the network will not function correctly. MEDIA When dual trunk redundancy has been selected the user will be able to see both PA Bus A & B diagnostics (Voltage, Current etc) as shown below: 5

6 If there is a short on either Bus the module will indicate to the user via Logix or the AOP as shown below: NOTE: The 1788HP-EN2PA-R will only be able to detect a short / open circuit on either of the trunks directly connected to it. If there is a fault between two junction boxes the user will only see it by looking at the junction boxes in the field. The junction boxes will indicate a fault on either a trunk or a drop. 6

7 The PA network will keep on operating but it is recommended that the user remove the short on the trunk and reset the Bus via the AOP. The user will also have to reset the trunk on the 1788HP-PARJB as this will also have tripped. MASTER When running in redundant master mode ( mode) there are 3 different status the PA Master can be in: Master Lonely This state occurs when the PA Master cannot see any other PA Masters on the same PA Network. Config Mismatch This state occurs when the PA Master has a different configuration from that of the other PA Master on the PA Network. Note that both masters will need to have exactly the same Master and field device configurations. 7

8 Active The module is synchronized to the other PA Master on the PA Network and functioning correctly. 8

9 EXAMPLE CODE When running in MulitMaster mode the data will appear twice in the Logix Controller (once for each PA Master). The example code will provide an Add-on Instruction (AOI) to the user to control the redundant PA. A combination of PA Master Status, MulitMaster Active and field device Connection Status will be used as criteria. 9
