1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The CDN455 Digital Communications Board is furnished in the AUMA Matic motor control housing for controlling electric motor driven actuators used on valves, dampers and other devices. 2 Detailed Description The primary actuator communication protocol is the open, non-proprietary DeviceNet protocol. DeviceNet is a modern communication system that is easy to install and configure. Through the use of EDS (electronic data sheet) files, system configuration is very quick and easy. The EDS file defines the communication requirements and I/O properties of the actuator. During system configuration, each node (actuator) on the network is automatically matched to the appropriate EDS file by a DeviceNet configurator. This allows the I/O information from each actuator to be mapped into the DeviceNet scanner without operator knowledge of the equipment. This process greatly simplifies system configuration allowing an entire network to be configured in minutes. DeviceNet is also supported by most major equipment manufacturers. That means off-the-shelf solutions are available for many control applications. Flexibility has been built-in. This board has been called the "Triple Play" because older technology has been built-in allowing control using either the Modbus protocol or an analog positioning signal. This is a very attractive option for customers who want to migrate to a new high-technology protocol from either the Modbus or analog control. The plant can continue to operate using existing control technology and move to the advanced protocol with no additional actuator hardware. The board has 8 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs, 3 analog inputs and one analog output. These I/O are completely definable by the customer. Customer Configuration: The 8 digital inputs are typically used to monitor actuator indications: Open Limit Switch Open Torque Switch Close Limit Switch Close Torque Switch Thermal Contact Incorrect Voltage Phasing Selector Switch in Remote Selector Switch in Local Two of the four digital outputs are usually: Open Command Close Command One of the digital outputs is usually: Alarm Indication One of the analog inputs is Actuator Position. The analog output is usually: Analog position feedback (4..20mA) This typically leaves 1 digital output and 2 analog inputs remaining for special customer requirements. Page 2 of 6
