The guide only describes the part having contact surface with the actual controllers, and it goes through the principle of data communication with LonWorks RS 485 interface - used by Danfoss. The recommendations mentioned in this document are intended as instructions for the market's refrigeration engineers and electricians who install Danfoss refrigeration controls. However, the general LonWorks principles will apply/be available for companies that are are fully conversant with the installation of LonWorks networks. 4 RS 485 Cable type if the data communication is to work satisfactorily it is a requirement that the cable meets the specifications required for an RS 485 connection. The most important points are the following: Cables twisted in pairs must be used, and they may be provided with a screen. The conductor's cross section must be at least 0.60 mm. If a screen is employed, it must not be connected. Examples of cable types: - Belden 7701NH, single-thread 1 x 2 x 0.65 mm, without screen - Belden 7702NH, single-thread 2 x 2 x 0.65 mm, without screen - Belden 7703NH, single-thread 1 x 2 x 0.65 mm, with screen - Belden 7704NH, single-thread 2 x 2 x 0.65 mm, with screen - LAPP UNITRONIC Li2YCY (TP), multi-thread 2 x 2 x 0.65 mm with screen - Dawyler Uninet P, single-thread 4 x 2 x 0 mm, with screen Wiring The cable is connected from controller to controller, and no branches are allowed on the cable. Keep the cable away from electric noise sources. The extent of the data transmission is limited to 1000 m. Only the correct wires in the cable must be connected to the controller. Even if there are four wires in the cable inside the screen, you cannot just choose the colour you like. The wires are twisted two and two, and it is a requirement that you use a pair of wires that have been twisted around each other. Terminal A must be connected to terminal A on the next unit, and terminal B to terminal B, etc. If there are several 'vacant' wires in the cable, they must be used for nothing else than data communication. 5 Cable ends To ensure correct data transmission there are requirements as to how the cable ends should be treated, and how thay should be terminated. Do not strip more of the cable insulation than strictly necessary. If a screen is used, it is not to be connected. Terminal A must be connected to terminal A, and terminal B connected to terminal B. When all cables have been mounted on the different units, the cable must be terminated by mounting a 120 ohm resistance over the cable's wires. EKC 201/301 controllers Addressing When the controllers have been installed, the m2 - LON must know that they are ready on the network and which addresses they have. This is done in the following way: The symbols for pushing of buttons have the following meanings: button Push the upper button Push the lower Push both buttons simultaneously if you accidentally give two or more controllers the same address, only the first one will be visible from the m2 - LON. Replacement If you replace a controller in the network, remember to readdress the controller with the same address and to rerelease the address to th em2 - LON. (You also have to do this, if you keep the existing LON module). If you replace the m2 - LON, you will have to visit all the individual controllers and activate the function (o04) which will then transmit the address to the m2 - LON. m2 - LON to EKC - LonWorks Installation RI.8B.N1.02 Danfoss
