2 1 General This standard data is applicable to hardware components in the Maestro UX process control system. Further data, and information regarding any possible variations, is contained in the data sheets for the hardware components. Data regarding special versions, e.g. for heightened requirements placed on the critical central systems, must be requested separately. The standard data applies, unless otherwise stated, to operation according to specifications, and, where applicable, to proper storage and transport. Where appropriate this may involve the maintenance of tolerances specified in the data sheets, or of evaluation criteria described in the associated standards. It is a basic requirement that assembly and installation instructions and handling instructions are obeyed. 2 Classification 2.1 Definition of the H&B Application Classes Depending on the particular application, either individual devices or complete electronics cabinets are used in the Maestro UX process control system. Their locations are usually distributed over the whole works area. For this reason, possible installation locations and their environmental influences are listed in the following table, and classified into H&B application classes: Installation location Offices and control rooms Auxiliary control room Fabrication rooms Environmental influence H&B Ambient Conditions Aerial loading Mech. Permissible limit values for the H&B application classes are listed in the section on "Values for Environmental Influences". The limiting values apply, unless there is an explicit indication to the contrary, both to individual devices and to complete electronics cabinets. The wiring between H&B application classes must be executed in such a manner as to preclude feedback, e.g. via isolating Ethernet transceivers. You may find further information on this in the Technical Information 30/ "Layout and Structure of Local Networks". It should be noted that certain hardware components are only intended for certain H&B application classes, and may only be used within those areas. Page 2 10/ EN 06/1999

All connected instrumentation, signal or control circuits may only be operated under conditions of "low functional voltage with secure isolation" according to DIN VDE 0100 T.410 (U=< 25 V AC /=< 60 V DC). The secure isolation must satisfy the requirements of DIN VDE 0106 T.101, and be implemented with the suitable and appropriate constructional elements (e. g. safety transformer in accordance with DIN EN 60742). 12 6 Reliability The reliability of the hardware components for the Maestro UX process control system is heavily influenced by the period for which it is exposed to the following stresses, and to their intensity: Functional stress Conditions of use Biological/chemical influences Mechanical stress Climatic stress. Under conditions of normal stress, the following individual values for MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) in accordance with MIL-HDBK-217 can be assumed: Hardware component groups Individual MTBF values Printers, color monitors (ignoring consumable materials) approx. 30,000 hrs Keyboards approx. 80,000 hrs Desktop devices (ignoring consumable materials) approx. 40,000 hrs 19" rack devices (ignoring consumable materials) approx. 50,000 hrs Network components approx. 200,000 hrs The availability depends in turn on both the MTBF and the MDT (Mean Down Time), and can be calculated with the aid of the following formula: MTBF Availability [%]= * 100 MTBF + MDT Example: Assuming an MTBF of 30,000 hrs. and an MDT of 10 hrs., an availability of >=99.9% is found. All data on reliability consists of statistical measures, and can not therefore be taken as an assurance of actual performance. Page 12 10/ EN 06/1999
