ELAN PREMIUMMATRIX SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING FEATURES: Auto Network Discovery: During initial configuration, the ELAN Configurator will locate all ELAN matrix devices on the network. Custom Configurable Sources: Use the ELAN Configurator to easily create and define the matrix sources including audio input, video input, and EDID parameters. Custom Configurable Zone Outputs: Use the ELAN Configurator to easily create and define the matrix zone outputs including audio output, video output, EDID parameters, and audio delays as required. Configurable Global IR Routing: Use the ELAN Configurator to map the Global IR input and output ports as needed to include or exclude IR routing from both the matrix chassis and HDBT extender IR inputs and outputs. Configurable RS-232 Serial Port Routing: Use the ELAN Configurator to map the local serial port routing. The matrix chassis and each HDBT Transmitter and Receiver include a serial port that can be configured to send serial commands (3 wire only TX, RX, Gnd) to source devices or displays from an ELAN Controller serial port. ARC Routing with supported HDBT extenders: Use the ELAN Configurator to map available ARC audio channels to sources. Note: This feature requires that the HDBT extender has support for an ARC channel. Configurable HDMI Audio Embedding/De-Embedding: Use the ELAN Configurator to set custom analog audio to be embedded into HDMI video sources or to configure a zone output to play analog or coax audio from and HDMI source input. 2 ELAN PREMIUMMATRIX DO NOT SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING FEATURES: Two-way Matrix Settings Updates: Programming or setting changes made directly on the ELAN Matrix web interface will not automatically update in the ELAN configurator. It is recommended that all settings are done in configurator. Alternatively, clicking the Import Settings from Switch button in configurator will read and overwrite all current settings from the switch into ELAN. RS-232 Serial Control: The ELAN Matrix driver uses Ethernet only for communication and control. Matrix Front Panel Button or IR remote control: Due to the extensive switching and customization that the ELAN Control system can bring to the ELAN Matrix the sources and zones configured in ELAN may not directly correspond to the Outputs and Inputs that are selectable from the front panel. It is recommended to disable these buttons to avoid confusion. Refer to ELAN Configuration Details below. HDBaseT Receiver IR Output Mapping: The ELAN Configurator does not include settings for individual mapping of IR on remote HDBaseT receivers. The default setting on the unit are mapped 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc. If custom settings are required they must be changed on the Matrix web user interface. Coax Audio Output Volume Control: The coaxial audio output does not support volume control. It also cannot be turned off or muted. It will continue to play audio from the last source selected when a zone that has been configured to use it is turned off in ELAN. The audio volume and off states will need to be controlled either by the source or in the amp that it is connected to. Any feature not specifically noted as supported is not supported. INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Design and document the details for the distributed AV system including sources and zones. During the rough-in phase install the necessary cabling for the distributed audio/video installation. Also during the rough-in phase, run a network cable from the location of the ELAN Matrix back to the ELAN controller location to provide the Ethernet connection needed to control the Matrix. Refer to Connection Diagrams below for details. Install the speakers, displays, and other required components per your design. Connect the ELAN Matrix to the sources and zones per your design. Refer to the ELAN Matrix documentation for connection details. Refer to ELAN Configurator Details below to add the ELAN Matrix: a. Add the Matrix as a zone controller and confirm communication between the Matrix and the Controller. b. Configure Global IR Mapping. Refer to Global IR Mapping Details below. c. Configure RS-232 Routing. Refer to RS-232 Routing Details below. d. Configure all the sources in the Matrix. Refer to Source Configuration Details below. e. Configure all the zones in the Matrix. Refer to Zone Configuration Details below. Test the system by selecting sources in each zone to confirm the correct source plays. 2 of 10

3 GLOBAL IR MAPPING DETAILS The ELAN Configurator provides settings to customize the routing of the Global IR ports on the matrix chassis. To enable a route right click on the desired input or output type and number to place an X indicating that route is active. 1. The first section, Global All IR In, will set the route for any IR signals received in the matrix chassis Global IR Input to any selected (right-click to place an X) outputs. Output options for the IR are the local chassis IR outputs or any of the remote HDBT Extender outputs as shown in item 1 below. 2. The second section, Global All IR Out, will set the route for IR signals to the matrix chassis Global IR Output from any selected (right-click to place an X) inputs. Input options for the IR are the local chassis IR inputs or any of the remote HDBT Extender inputs as shown in item 2 below. 3. The third section will enable or disable looping IR signals received on the matrix chassis Global IR Input to the matrix chassis Global IR Output. 3 of 10

4 RS-232 ROUTING DETAILS The ELAN Configurator provides settings to customize the routing of RS-232 Serial ports on the matrix chassis and the HDBT extenders. The custom serial routing can be either from the local chassis ports or from HDBT extenders or Off. Setting the Remote HDBT Port to Port as ON will route the HDBT Transmitter 1 to HDBT Receiver 1, 2 to 2, and so on. This will also disable any of the routing for the local chassis serial ports. If the Remote HDBT Port to Port is set to Off, then the local matrix chassis RS-232 ports may be individually routed to an HDBT extender. SERIAL WIRING TO THE MATRIX CHASSIS: The serial port on the matrix chassis is a 3-position screw down terminal. This terminal must be wired as shown in the chart below when using a 568B terminated CAT5 or CAT6 cable that is connected to an ELAN Controller RJ45 Serial Port or an ELAN RJ45 x DB-9 adapter. Use a null serial cable or use the standard straight thru ELAN serial adapters ( & ) with a null terminated CAT5/6 cable for connections to a standard serial port on a device. To make this null CAT5/6 cable terminate one end as standard T568B and terminate the other end per the chart below: RJ45 Pin # CAT5/6 Color (568B) 4 Blue 5 Green 6 Blue/White If the device you are connecting requires a null serial connection then do NOT use a null cable for this connection, use straight thru serial connection instead. Alternately, use the standard straight thru ELAN serial adapters ( & ) with a standard straight thru T568B terminated CAT5/6 cable. 4 of 10

5 SOURCE CONFIGURATION DETAILS The ELAN Configurator allows for custom source configuration as detailed below. In the Configurator, the matrix sources must be defined before they will work. Below are descriptions of the setting required to define the source. Source Parameter Options Definition Video Input HDMI 1, 2, 3,. (This analog can either be used to replace the audio on the HDMI input or be passed to an analog/coax output). ARC 1, 2, 3, None Select the ARC (Audio Return Channel) audio input # if it is applicable to the source. (This ARC audio can be passed to an analog/coax output). Select None to use only the HDMI audio signal for the source. HDMI Audio Original HDMI Signal Selecting this will keep the HDMI audio signal for the source. This is the default setting. Embed Analog Signal Selecting this will embed the analog audio configured for the source as the Audio Input for the source. This option will only be editable when both a Video Input is configured with Audio Input set to Analog. EDID Type Select from List Select the EDID type for your source. 5 of 10

6 ZONE CONFIGURATION DETAILS The ELAN Configurator allows for custom zone configuration as detailed below. In the Configurator, the matrix zones must be defined before they will work. The default network configuration on the ELAN Matrix is DHCP. This setting will allow for the Matrix to automatically obtain an IP address on your network and be discoverable in the ELAN configurator. Optionally, to ensure a reliable connection ELAN recommends setting all network controlled devices with a static IP address outside of the DHCP range of the network. Refer to the ELAN Matrix documentation for specific details on setting the IP of the Matrix via its web interface. To access the administrative settings on the switch, use the default PIN code of of 10

9 ELAN CONFIGURATION DETAILS The following table provides settings used in the ELAN Configurator. 10 COMMON MISTAKES 1. Not Discovering. Ethernet either not connected or connected to the incorrect port on the back of the Matrix. The top Ethernet port of the Matrix must be connected to the network for discovery and control. The bottom Ethernet port is only used to serve network to remote HDBaseT clients. 2. Incorrect Matrix Version. Verify the version of the matrix matches the version information in the header of this document. 3. Incorrect switching from the Matrix front panel buttons. Due to the extensive switching and customization that the ELAN control system can bring to the ELAN Matrix the sources and zones configured in ELAN may not directly correspond to the Outputs and Inputs that are selectable from the front panel. 4. Inconsistent programming between ELAN and the Matrix. Many of the settings of the matrix can be set from both ELAN configurator and the Matrix web interface. Making changes on the matrix interface will not update ELAN. ELAN recommends programming all settings from the ELAN Configurator. 5. No Serial communication pass thru to HDBaseT transmitters or receivers: a. Verify proper routing is configured as shown under RS-232 Routing Details above. Note that setting Remote Transmitters to Remote Receivers will disable the Matrix chassis serial ports. b. Verify proper serial wiring per the diagrams listed under Serial Wiring above. Note that the HDBaseT transmitters and receivers have a null female connection. Be sure to always wire your controller serial port to the matrix chassis as shown in the diagram then connect your serial device to be controlled as described above based on its null/straight serial requirements.
