1 D8E Evaluation ystem General Description The D8E evaluation system (EV system) provides the hardware and software necessary to evaluate the D8E and D7. The EV system consists of five D8E/D7 devices in a -pin TDFN package, a D9AQ+ evaluation TDFN socket board, and a D98P-00# UB-to-IC/-Wire adapter. The evaluation software runs on Windows 0, Windows 8, and Windows 7 operating systems (- and -bit versions). The EV system provides a handy user interface to exercise the features of the D8E and D7. 2 D8E Evaluation ystem Quick tart This section is intended to give the D8E evaluator a list of recommended equipment and instructions on how to set up a Windows-based computer for the evaluation software. Recommended Equipment D8E EV system UB-to-IC adapter with D7 secure coprocessor (included) D90AQ+ TDFN socket board (included) Five D8EQ+ (included, respectively) Five D7Q+ (included) UB Type A to Micro-UB Type B cable (included) Computer with a Windows 0, Windows 8, or Windows 7 operating system (- or -bit) and a spare UB.0 or higher port Download D8E EV kit software (light version) or request full D8E EV kit developer software. Note: In the following sections, software-related items are identified by bolding. Text in bold refers to items directly from the EV system software. Text in bold and underlined refers to items from the Windows operating system. Hardware etup and Driver Installation Quick tart Procedure The EV system is fully assembled and tested. The following steps were performed on a Windows 7 PC to set up the D8EEVKIT hardware/software: ) Obtain and unpack the zip of D8E_EVKIT_ REV Light_version.zip or newer version. ) In a file viewer, double click on D8E_Installer. msi to begin the installation (Figure ). ) The etup Wizard opens. Click on Next, as shown in Figure. ) Read and check the box for the license agreement and click on Next again to install to the selected folder (Figure ). Figure. File Viewer Maxim Integrated

5 D8E Evaluation ystem 9) Plug in the D98P-00# to the PC with both D90AQ+ socket boards by doing the following: a) Open the first burn-in socket and insert a D7Q+ into one of the cavities, as shown in Figure 9. Note: The plus (+) on the package must be on the opposite side of the marker in the socket. b) Open the second burn-in socket and insert a D8EQ+ into one of the cavities, following the same orientation shown in Figure 9. c) Close both burn-in sockets. d) Connect the first D9AQ J, -pin female socket into the D98P-00#, -pin male plug, as shown in Figure 0. e) Connect the second D9AQ J, -pin female socket into the st D9AQ J, -pin male plug. (Figure 0). f) For the first socket board with D7, configure the jumpers JP to use DA and JB to use.v. With the D8E, configure the jumpers to JP to use W and do not populate JB (Figure 0). g) Plug the D8E EV kit into the PC using a UB Type-A to Micro-UB Type-B cable. Figure 8. 7 D8E Evaluation ystem Detailed Description of oftware The D8E evaluation program user interface (Figure ) has four tabs, General Commands, HA Commands, ECDA Commands, and Other Coprocessor Commands. The etup section is used to make the device selections that apply to the General Commands, HA Commands, ECDA Commands, and Other Coprocessor Commands tabs. Here is a summary of the function for each tab of the full developer software: General Commands is used as the main tool to evaluate the D8E/D7 general functions to write or read from the user memory pages, crypto-related memory pages, decrement counter, RNG, and protection registers. HA Commands is used to evaluate the D8E/ D7 symmetric (HA-) security function commands. ECDA Commands is used to evaluate the D8E/D7 integrated asymmetric (ECC-P) security function commands. Other Coprocessor Commands is used to evaluate the D7 coprocessor that computes any required HMACs or ECDA signatures with its additional command set to do any operations on the D8E. Note: Grayed out when D8E is selected. All tabs include a communications Log area consisting of an IC Log or -Wire Log output. Figure.
