Safety precautions The following symbol mean: Caution: Read these operating instructions fully before use and pay particular attention to sections containing this symbol Use only as specified by the operating instructions, or the intrinsic protection may be impaired. Connect only to a power supply with a voltage corresponding to that on the serial number label. Do not use other power supply units than recommended by the manufacturer. Ensure that the mains switch and isolating device (power supply connector) are easily accessible during use. Do not operate the unit outside the laboratory premises. Do not operate the unit in premises with aggressive or explosive chemical mixtures. Before moving, disconnect at the power supply socket. Do not place a load exceeding 3 kg on the platform. Do not impede the platform motion during operation. If liquid is split inside the unit, disconnect it from the power supply and have it checked by a competent person. Before using any cleaning or decontamination method except those recommended by the manufacturer, user should check with the manufacturer that the proposed method will not damage the equipment. The unit should be saved from shocks and falling. 2. General Information OS-10 is the next, more modern development of OS-20 and therefore is usually used in the same laboratories. The main differences are informative display and modern elegant design. Shaker provides continuous operation of up to 96 hours. LCD display indicates two rows of values: the set and actual values of speed and time. Page 3

4 Four interchangeable platforms make the shaker applicable in different laboratories: BIOTECHNOLOGY AND MICROBIOLOGY - for microorganism cultivation and extraction of biologically active substance. IMMUNOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY - for agglutination and precipitation assay. GENE ENGINEERING - for washing off electrophoretic gel. MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY - cultivation of biological liquids. The external power supply (AC/DC adapter 12V 500 ma) ensures the electrical safety of the unit. Orbital Shaker OS-10 provides: -Soft, but intensive rotational stirring of the samples; -Smooth regulation, stabilisation and indication of rotation speed; -Even amplitude throughout the shaker platform; -Setting up and indication of the required working time; -Automatic stop of the platform motion after the time expiration; -Indication of the current working time. 3. Getting started 3.1. Unpacking. Remove packing materials carefully and retain for future shipment or storage of the unit Complete set. The shaker set includes: -Orbital Shaker OS piece -Platform... on order -Spare rubber belt piece -External power supply unit piece -Operating Manual; Specifications; Certificate copy 3.3. Place the Shaker on the horizontal even working surface Plug the external power supply unit into the 12 V socket at the rear side of the Shaker Platform installation: Install the platform by inserting the pins on the underside of the platform into the holes on the supporting platform on the shaker. 5 4. Operation of the Shaker 4.1. Connect the external power supply unit to the mains socket Place laboratory glassware on the Shaker platform and secure with the holders With the help of and TIME buttons (Fig. 1/1) set the required working time interval in hours and minutes (increment - 1 min). If the button is pressed for longer time the increment becomes bigger. The set time is displayed in the first line of the display (Set.p.) 4.4. With the help of and PRM buttons (Fig. 1/2) set the required shaking intensity in revolutions per minute (increment 10 RPM). If the button is pressed for longer time the increment becomes bigger. The set speed is displayed in the first line of the display (Set.p.) 4.5. Press the RPM-RUN/STOP button (Fig. 1/3). The platform will start rotation and the timer indicator will start counting up the time interval in the lower line of the display - Actual p. (with 1 sec precision) At the end of the program (after the set time elapses) the platform motion stops and in the lower line of the display - Actual p. shows the flashing reading S accompanied by the repetitive sound signal until the PRM- RUN/STOP button is pressed If the working time is not set (or deleted) and the display shows 00:00, pressing the RPM-RUN/STOP button will cause the unit to operate continuously until the STOP button is pressed If required, there is possibility to restart the timer when it is running. Press the TIME-RUN/STOP button once (Fig. 1/4) to stop the timer. Press the TIME-RUN/STOP button again to restart the timer The platform motion can be stopped at any time by pressing the RPM- RUN/STOP button. In this case the program realisation and the platform motion stops and timer is set back to zero switching into the stop mode At the end of operation disconnect the external power supply unit from the mains socket SET0:15:070 Set p. Technical Maintenance 6.1. It is allowed to perform the maintenance and all types of repair operations only to the authorised specialists or service-engineers who have done a special training at the manufacturing company Cleaning liquids that do not contain concentrate organic solvents, alkali or acid can be used for device cleaning. Standard ethanol (75%) can be used for disinfection Rubber belt replacement. Remove the fixation screws on the shaker bottom and remove the bottom plate. Replace the rubber belt. Assemble the unit. 7 7. Acceptance Certificate 7.1. Orbital Shaker OS-10, manufacturing number... meets the indicated specifications and is considered to be fit for service Date of sale Warranty. Reclamation information The Manufacturer warrants the compliance of the device with the requirements of Specifications provided the consumer follows the operation, storage and transportation requirements. The warranted service life of the device from the date of delivery to the customer is 24 months. If any manufacturing defects are discovered by the customer, an unsatisfactory - equipment report shall be compiled, certified and sent to the manufacturer at your local dealer (distributor) address. 9.
