It does not provide instructions for diagnostics, maintenance, service, or troubleshooting. This information is presented in good faith. 4 Communication Connection Serial communication to the actuator is provided through the 8 mm communication connector on the front of the actuator or via terminal connection on J5 under the access cover. Our recommended communications cable is part number CBL-T2USB485-M8-xxx. No special drivers or setup is required for use with MS Windows. Expert Software A CD is provided with each actuator and contains the full Installation Operation and Maintenance manual as well as the Expert software. The software is also available for download from www. exlar.com. Using Windows Explorer, open the Tritex X-Release Date directory from the CD and double-click on setup.exe. Expert software version and later require Microsoft.NET Framework version 2.0. In addition, Expert software version or later requires.net Framework version 4.0 to be installed on the PC. If the required version of.net Framework is not on the PC, a Microsoft message will be displayed suggesting you go to the Microsoft website to download it. This is not necessary, as a distributable version of the required.net Framework has been included on the CD; it can be installed by double-clicking on the dotnetfx.exe file. 4

5 Step One Create Template in Expert Software - Open Exlar Expert Software - Select File; New; Application - A New Application window will pop-up - Select DC Tritex II IA4 Option Board Generic Enter a Name for the application (Site Name, Well Pad #, Valve Description, Etc) Enter an Application Author (optional) - Click OK 5

6 Step Two Establish Communication to the Actuator - Select View, Network Communications Manager - Select Remove Network - Select Add Network - Use Default Setting (ModbusRTU) for type of network to be created. - On next pop-up leave all General Settings as default but open RS485 Serial Tab - Use the Communications Port Name Drop Down to Select the Appropriate Com Port for your PC - Click Ok - Select Scan Network - Status Should Now Show Connected - If so, Close Network Manager Window 6

7 Step Three Read Parameters from Drive and Adjust User Units - Press the Up Arrow Located on the Menu Bar to read the parameters from the drive/actuator to the PC - You should see activity as the PC is uploading parameters from the drive. If not, return to step two. - Adjust the user units by expanding the Setup Tree and Selecting User Units. - For a TDM , use the selections shown below (changes are in red): - Select Apply When Finished 7

8 Step Four Couple Actuator to the Valve - The next step is dependent on the status of the Actuator. If Drive Status is: Disabled Go to Step 4A below Home Required Go to Step 4B below Enabled Go to Step 4C below Analog Position Command Go to Step 4D Below - Step 4A On the Input Function Control Window (Right Side of Screen), Select Enable Maintained, Select Define Home {Temporarily call this position home} Use Jog+ or Jog- to move actuator up/down to be able to attach coupler Select Reset Faults if current limit is reached - Step 4B On the Input Function Control Window (Right Side of Screen), Select Define Home {Temporarily call this position home} Use Jog+ or Jog- to move actuator up/down to be able to attach coupler Select Reset Faults if current limit is reached - Step 4C On the Input Function Control Window (Right Side of Screen), Use Jog+ or Jog- to move actuator up/down to be able to attach coupler Select Reset Faults if current limit is reached - Step 4D On the Input Function Control Window (Right Side of Screen), Select Alternate Mode Use Jog+ or Jog- to move actuator up/down to be able to attach coupler Select Reset Faults if current limit is reached 8

9 Step Five Configure System Setup - On the directory tree (left side) select System Setup - Typically no changes are made on the Comms Faults Tab or In Position Window Tab - Options Tab Typically Auto Enable on Startup is Checked Reverse direction polarity is checked {Extend actuator closes valve or 0% open} - Fault Enables Below is the Typical Configuration of Faults {Consult for Recommendations} - Limits Typically the User Current Limit is lowered to 7A User Low Bus Voltage Limits can be configured {Consult for Recommendations} All other values remain as default 9

10 Step Five Configure System Setup (continued) - Operating Modes If using a digital input to control the actuator, leave these settings as default If using a 4-20mA input select Default mode to Analog Position and Alternate to Digital Inputs - Dedicated Move (what does actuator do upon fault condition) In many cases a closed position is desired upon all fault conditions Position should remain at which is the closed position Select a speed at which the actuator should move - Position Limits Typical Settings for Seating Algorithm {Consult for Additional Detail} 10

12 Step Six Configure Homing Routine - Select Motion, Home from the Directory Tree (Left Side) - Typical Settings for Homing Routing are shown below Velocity is typically set to a slow setting Current Limit is used and can be adjust depending on how hard the valve is to be seated Check Auto Home on Enable 12

13 Step Seven Configure 4-20mA Command - Select Motion, Analog Position from Directory Tree - Typical Settings for Analog Position are shown below Minimum Position is typically 0 or closed Maximum Position is typically near full open {check valve stroke specification} Velocity Limit is adjustable depending on how fast the valve should act Acceleration should be set to 5 IN/S/S Step Eight Download and Save - Press the Down Arrow Located on the Menu Bar to store the modified parameters to the drive/actuator - Save the application file to the PC (File, Save) 13
