7 As a modular IP I/O-System, WAGO SPEEDWAY connects to both fieldbus and a higher-level control system via DI fieldbus coupler. An integrated system bus interface connects to I/O modules (e.g., analog, digital), allowing direct field-side acquisition and transmission of signals depending on the application needs. When used in areas of high signal concentration, the modules can be installed in an extremely space-efficient manner. The I/O modules are interconnected via data (system bus) and supply lines. Power dividers provide supplemental energy to cope with greater demands or when longer distances must be covered. Depending on the fieldbus type, configuration, programming, maintenance and diagnostics can be performed via integrated USB interface and fieldbus. System bus Power supply Power divider

This allows the user to economically cover a wide range of functions with only a few base modules, while benefiting from a highly customizable system. Outside of a few select modules, parameter setting is performed channel-bychannel. This greatly reduces the variety of modules and types required, minimizing supply and inventory costs. Encoder/SSI Transmitter Module: evaluation, latch, gate, preset, cam, baud rate, pulse width modulation Depending on the fieldbus used, parameter setting is performed via device description files (e.g., GSD, GSDML, SDDML and EDS). DTM device drivers based on FDT technology are also provided. These files can be loaded via FDT frame application to parameterize systems having no device description files, as well as extended parameter setting. Access is provided via USB interface or fieldbus (valid for all ETHER- NET-based couplers, such as ETHERNET, PROFINET and sercos). 0

12 Fieldbus Independence Meet Specific Market/System Requirements MODBUS/TCP SPEEDWAY fulfills specific market and system requirements by supporting the fieldbuses shown above, while being compatible with additional fieldbus systems. Address hardware and set model-specific operation modes with the fieldbus coupler s display panel, which is shielded from environmental aggressors and accidental contact via a protective cover. An USB interface (COM) provides direct system access for programming, parameter-setting and maintenance.

13 Upgradable System parameter handling Options handling Easy to Service Upgradable, Parameter-Saving and Flexible Upgradable System acquisition and operating costs are steadily increasing, making return on investment more important than ever. Designed with this in mind, the SPEEDWAY System is updatable to help economize operational costs. Both coupler and I/O module firmware can be easily updated. This allows quick access to new functionalities, while errors can be fixed without replacing components. System parameter handling While all parameterizable SPEEDWAY modules feature factory default settings, they can be easily tailored to user-specific system requirements. SPEEDWAY provides the freedom of system parameter handling not every control system permits direct data parameterization, administration and archiving. This time-saving advantage ensures parameter settings won t be lost if a module is exchanged. System parameter handling archives and automatically verifies (e.g., when exchanging an I/O module) that the right replacement module is used. In the event of a failure, parameter data can be restored quickly and reliably. The system also provides the option of checking if hardware, software and firmware updates are required. Options handling Customization due to changing I/O station configurations (e.g., tool replacement in processing center) typically requires extensive engineering before a new production process can start. With PROFIBUS, SPEEDWAY supports variable system configuration without engineering modification. The higher-level control system defines various expansion stages within a maximum engineering configuration. This allows the control system to identify a SPEEDWAY station modification (number and type of modules) and run a sub-program without interfering with the engineering.

14 Asynchronous and Synchronous Diagnostics Fast and Precise Error Analysis LED and software supported Module-by-module and channel-by-channel Parameterizable One of the greatest challenges for automation suppliers is making and keeping technology and engineering manageable particularly for troubleshooting. Therefore, it is no longer a matter of whether systems are diagnostic capable or not, but how well they perform troubleshooting. Diagnostic capabilities are particularly critical for widely distributed IP systems, and this is precisely why all WAGO SPEEDWAY devices deliver diagnostic data. Intelligent modules are increasingly determining diagnostic information quantity and type to facilitate in-depth error analysis. However, this also inevitably leads to an increase in diagnostic data with data transfer that must occur with virtually no delay and without influencing the cycle time. To meet these challenges and minimize downtime, asynchronous and synchronous transfer mechanisms are supported. 17 Select SPEEDWAY modules are equipped with M ports for powering modules over great distances. Compared with M8 ports, they offer a connection cross-section of 0. mm² (8 AWG) instead of 0. mm² ( AWG). The related lower line resistance causes a lower voltage drop on the line. In connection with the larger voltage fluctuation range integrated in the modules, greater distances than usual can be covered between a power supply unit and SPEEDWAY. An M connection contains two lines (logic and sensor supply, as well as actuator supply). A second supply port allows for supply groups, or an additional supply for higher power requirements when using A output modules. Electrical separations in the modules power supplies ensure seamless system operation in the event of an error (e.g., short circuit of the actuators). Power supply monitoring and diagnostics are provided along the entire length of the cable runs.

These fully encapsulated modules safeguard system operation, even when subjected to temperature extremes and prolonged periods of vibration. When combined, these robust design elements ensure long-term electronic circuit protection. Additionally, moisture cannot penetrate the units to cause damage (e.g., hairline cracks). Protected both inside and out Electromagnetic compatibility the ability of an electrical component to operate in its intended environment without causing or being influenced by electromagnetic interference is a major feature of the WAGO SPEEDWAY system. Electromagnetic shielding consisting of a metallized housing and shield plate guarantees trouble-free operation within the housing. On-machine interferences are directly deflected via the modules brackets or system s mounting rail. The resulting SPEEDWAY modules adhere to WAGO s philosophy of exceeding normative requirements. 9

Extensive engineering ensures compliance with standardized specifications from CNOMO guidelines regarding the spacing of assembly drill holes. Because passive distribution boxes and sensor/actuator boxes also meet these guidelines, WAGO SPEEDWAY eases the transition from passive to active automation and supports the development of mixed systems through standardized assembly dimensions. Adapters for both rails and machine-mount brackets are also available.

23 WAGO SPEEDWAY does not require specialty cables and connectors. Standardized M8 ( poles) and M ( poles) ports simplify assembly and procurement in the event that an item must be exchanged. Connecting the fieldbus, system bus, power supply and sensors/actuators is performed via several coded M connectors (A, B, D). This streamlined approach prevents wiring errors. For additional strength, device connections are manufactured from metal. Compared to plastic versions, this prevents corrosion caused by liquids seeping into metal cable connectors that were accidentally screwed in at an angle. Ergonomics played an important role in the development of WAGO SPEEDWAY. The result is a lightweight, compact design that can be used in the most spacerestricted areas on machines and systems. Clearly visible printing, labeling and status LEDs quickly provide module information at a glance.
