2 For Use in Hazardous Areas The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 0 is a modular, fi eldbus-independent I/O system for decentralized automation. This system, which includes fi eldbus couplers, programmable controllers, I/O modules and supply modules, provides users with the fl exibility to customize a cost-effi cient node by purchasing only the digital and analog I/O needed. Since it s 1995 introduction, the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 0 has consistently proven itself in numerous worldwide applications for shipbuilding, production and industrial process automation. Standard use of this system in Zone 2/22 hazardous areas is possible. The system provides for direct connection of Zone 1/21 sensors/ actuators and Zone 0/20 sensors. WAGO has custom-developed special, intrinsically safe digital and analog input and output modules for these applications that isolate intrinsically safe portions from the system s non-intrinsically safe section. The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 0 Features and Benefits: Flexibility Fine granularity: 1-, 2-, 4- or 8-channel modules enable customized node confi gurations, minimizing design-related costs. By freely combining digital and analog I/O modules with diff erent potentials, power sources and signals into one fi eldbus node, it is possible to integrate the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM into almost any application. Power supply modules with or without a fuse carrier and, if required, error message via the bus, allow the mixing of diff erent potentials within a fi eldbus node. Fieldbus couplers for all popular fi eldbus protocols are available (ETHERNET, PROFIBUS, INTERBUS, CANopen, DeviceNet, MOD- BUS, etc.). Programmable Fieldbus Controller The programmable fi eldbus controller combines the functionality of a fi eldbus coupler with that of a Programmable Logic Control (PLC). Programming of the application is done via WAGO-I/O-PRO CAA in accordance with IEC This allows the programmer to access all fi eldbus and I/O data. Benefits The use of decentralized control can better support a PLC or PC. Signal pre-processing reduces fi eldbus transmission. Peripheral equipment can be controlled directly, resulting in faster system response times. Complex applications can be divided into individually testable units. Ability to program system to send a response/notifi cation in the event of a fi eldbus failure. Simple, self-suffi cient control with fi eldbus connectivity. Compact Design Space-saving, compact design allows the system to be used in small, cost-effi cient enclosures. 5 Electrical Protection for Hazardous Areas The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 0 is approved for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas. Based on the location, duration and operating conditions in which an explosive atmosphere is present, hazardous areas are divided into several zones. The application areas are explained below. Zone 2 Zone 1 Zone 0 Zone 1 Zone 0 Zone 0 Hazardous areas caused by combustible gases, fumes, mist and dust Zone 0 Areas in which explosive atmospheres are either continuously present or are present for long periods. Zone 1 Areas in which explosive atmospheres are likely to occur occasionally during normal operation. Zone 2 Areas in which explosive atmospheres are unlikely to occur under normal operation; if such conditions do occur, it will be for a short duration. These approvals, as well as the national or international construction regulations, must be considered when implementing the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 0 into hazardous areas.
