10 Weather Monitoring at Chek Lap Kok Airport Hong Kong Observatory We make use of the Allen-Bradley PLC to provide a weather monitoring system for the HK Airport. Our PLC system is mainly use to monitoring the Windshear( 風切變 ) which is risky factor of aircraft landing Windshear refers to a change in headwind or tailwind sustained for more than a few seconds, resulting in changes in the lift to the aircraft. A decreased lift will cause the aircraft to go below the intended flight path. In the presence of significant windshear, a pilot has to take corrective action to ensure safety.
