The FMT-DS/C has three serial interfaces, two are RS232 and one is RS485. Note that the RS485 interface has provision for tri-stating the transmitter. The RS485 transmitter will be enabled whenever data is received on either of the RS232 ports. The transmitter will remain enabled for approximately 7mS after the last character is sent. No RS232 handshaking lines are required. These can be accessed by carefully removing the clear cover. Data transmitted by device B is only received by device A, not by device C, and data transmitted by device C is only received by device A, not by device C. 5 Cable Specifications and Maximum Lengths The cable used for the RS485 connection should consist of two twisted pairs with either individual or overall screen. Suitable cables include Belden types 9729, 9829, For the RS232 connections a multi-core with overall shield is recommended, Belden type * The maximum cable length for RS232 applications is 15m. * The maximum cable length for RS485 applications is 1200m (1.2Km).
