GENERAL APPLICATION INTALLATION TETING & TROUBLEHOOTING CUTOMER & TECHNICAL ERVICE WARRANTY & REPAIR PECIFICATION GENERAL 1.1 Document Purpose Figure 1. Isometric Front View of DBMA helf This document describes the Westell DBMA200-24, shown in Figure 1. ee Table 5 for information concerning other models in the same product family. Hereafter, the DBMA Position D3 Mounting Assembly may be referred to as the " or mounting." 1.2 Document tatus This practice replaces practice , updates the company contact information, and removes the DBMA200-24L4 model. Revision B clarifies the product s ability to support a +24Vdc power source. Whenever this practice is updated, the reason will be stated in this paragraph. 1.3 Product Purpose and Description The mounting is a rack-mountable, 24-position, mounting assembly for lim Mechanics D3 modules, such as the Westell Model 522-XX series. The mounting provides an automatic cut-thru feature that maintains transmission continuity when a module is removed from its slot, making it highly efficient as a cross-connect shelf. Input and output connections to and from the units are made via BNC-type connectors on the back panel. Power, ground, and chassis connections are also made to the back panel. Power for the assembly and the units installed is derived from a 22 to 56Vdc power source (-48V is typical, but +24Vdc also may be used to power the mounting). The shelf is designed to allow either split or backup power feeds. An alarm output is provided for external reporting of a fuse alarm condition. 1.4 Product Mounting The is typically mounted on 19" or 23" equipment racks. The can be mounted to a wall with the DBMAWB-24 Wall Mounting Bracket. When installed at a customer premises, the mounting is typically located after a D3 Multiplexer system, on the Network side of the demarcation point between the Network and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). In Central Office (CO) applications, the mounting can interface customer co-located terminating equipment or intraoffice network equipment. The automatic cut-thru feature allows a single DX-3 card to be used in a any slot for testing or cross-connecting. Continuity through the shelf is maintained even when the card is removed. Please refer to the appropriate D3 module practice for additional application and operational information. 1.5 Product Features The mounting offers the following features: Reversible mounting ears for 19" or 23" equipment rack installations Covered Network connections Power alarm connections Locking see-thru cover available (see Table 5) All connections made on the back of the assembly Powered from a 22 to 56Vdc external power source Electrostatic Discharge (ED) Jack Meets FCC Part 15, Class A requirements ANI/UL CAN/CA C22.2 NO NEB Level Westell, Inc. 2 ection DBM-A Rev. B 2. APPLICATION The mounting holds up to 24 BroadTerm lim Mechanics plug-in modules for transport of wideband D3 services. These modules may be any mix of DX-3 cards (jack access) or network interface units. The mounting, along with the appropriate plug-ins, provides an interface between a D3 facility and customer or network equipment. 3. INTALLATION The mounting can be installed in a 19- or 23-inch rack. The plug-in modules and mounting are designed for hot insertion and removal, meaning the shelf can be powered while inserting or removing circuit cards. When a card is removed, the shelf provides a metallic cut-thru between the CPE and the network connections. The following paragraphs provide detailed instructions for performing these procedures. - INPECTION NOTE - If not previously inspected at the time of delivery, visually inspect the unit for damages prior to installation. If the equipment has been damaged in transit, immediately report the extent of the damage to the transportation company and to Westell (see Part 5 for telephone number).
