3 Overview The H3C S9500E core routing switches (hereinafter referred to as the S9500E switches) is developed by Hangzhou H3C Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as H3C). They are new generation core routing switches designed for the core area of campus networks and Internet data centers (IDCs). The S9500E switches provide large-capacity, high-performance Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching services integrated with hardware IPv6, hardware MPLS, security, service analysis, and other intelligent features. The S9500E switches can serve as the basic network platform for the integrated services on campus networks and IDCs, and help integrate users' IT resources. The S9500E switches provide the following GE electrical interface cards: LSR1GT24LEC1 LSR2GT24LEB1 LSR1GT48LEC1 LSR2GT48LEB1 LSR2GT48REB1 Key features All-round maintenance and detection mechanism Online status detection mechanism The switch uses a dedicated maintenance engine to detect the state of each backplane communications channel, service communications channel, key chip, and storage medium. Once a failure is detected, it is reported to the system through the management bus. Card isolation function You can isolate a specific card from the forwarding plane. After that, the card does not forward packets, but can be managed on the control plane. You can diagnose the fault on the card in real time or upgrade CPLD without affecting other system services. Environment-friendly design The S9500E switches uses an intelligent EMS engine system to implement intelligent power management, power on cards in sequence, power off cards as needed, isolate faulty or idle cards, and reduce system consumption. When cards are powered on in sequence, they bring less impact to the power supply, so that the system lifetime is improved and electromagnetic radiation is reduced. The S9500E switches are compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standard. 1

4 Flexible configurations and scalability GE electrical interface cards deliver high speed service exchange. You can select the preceding GE electrical interface cards according to the number of interfaces needed, and select optical transceiver modules according to the transmission distance. GE electrical interface cards are connected to other interface cards through switch fabrics within the system. Switch fabrics allow non-blocking service exchange between any interfaces on the same interface card or different interface cards. Service traffic from different interfaces can be converged on a specific interface to implement high speed transmission over a long distance. Hot swapping GE electrical interface cards are hot swappable. You can add or remove interface cards without powering off the device, so that services on other interface cards are not affected. The management system identifies interface cards in real time and configures the cards automatically to ensure consistency of existing services. Optical transceiver modules are hot swappable. The system monitors the optical transceiver modules in real time and informs the administrator once detecting a state change. When one interface is activated, the other interface is automatically disabled. After the copper port of a combo port is activated, it serves as a 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-sensing copper port.
