3 Apologies 2 On behalf of myself and Mark Denton (SC5 Chairperson), I would first like to offer our apologies for not being present at the TC85 Plenary in Moscow. We do appreciate the amount of time and effort that has been put in to organise the event and hope that it has been a successful meeting for those that have managed to attend. We feel that significant progress has been made within SC5 over the last year and it is most unfortunate that we are not able to build on this in Moscow. However; we are looking forward to next year and we will continue to work towards efficient standards production within the sub-committee.

9 Working Group Progress WG 01 There are a large number of projects within this WG at various stages along the process. If progress of a particular standard is required then contact myself (Ky Hibberd) or Alain Chotard (WG1 Convenor). A number of published standards are also being revised following systematic review comments. It is noted that there has been issues regarding systematic reviews this year where confirmation of the review has been advised through resolution, yet revisions have been required. A number of resolutions are required which can allow the revision of these published standards. ISO 8300:2013, ISO 8425:2013 and ISO 21483:2013 have all been published in the last year, so it can be seen that a significant amount of work is being achieved within this WG.

10 Working Group Progress WG 04 ISO 7195 Packagings for the transport of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) The CD ballot closed on 11 th May 2014 with a positive vote and comments from France, Japan, the Netherlands and the United States will be considered during the meeting in Moscow. The draft will then be circulated within the Working Group for final review with the target to initiate the DIS vote on 1 st September ISO Leakage testing on packages The draft, which will include the comments discussed in Atlanta, is almost finalized. It is expected that the CD vote will be initiated on 1 st September 2014.

11 Working Group Progress WG 05 ISO 16966:2013 was published ISO/CD Guide for gamma-ray spectrometry measurement of radioactive waste packages. The CD draft was successful, the project lead is looking to organise an expert meeting to address the comments and progress to the DIS vote. ISO/WD project was deleted (not enough interest from P-members).

12 Working Group Progress WG08 ISO 16117:2013 was published A proposed scope for the initiation of a standard on nuclear criticality risk assessment methodology (e.g., accident frequencies and credible initiating event thresholds) was prepared but an outline or draft of such a standard is needed to move forward. A New Work Item Proposal for the revision of ISO 1709 has continued to be drafted. A preliminary draft continues to be drafted to initiate a New Work Item Proposal for an ISO standard on Nuclear criticality safety Waste in collaboration with ISO TC85/SC5/WG5. A preliminary draft of a NWIP for Fissile material handlers, supervisors, and managers nuclear criticality safety is underway.

13 Working Group Progress WG13 The standard being worked on in WG13 is ISO/AWI Sampling and characterization of sites, land, buildings and infrastructures contaminated by radionuclides or chemical products for remediation purposes. The project has been registered in the work programme and the CD is in the process of being drafted.

14 Positives this Period All WGs active and positive progress has been made in all. 5 new published standards and further standards are in the publication process. Liaison with SC6 regarding some new proposals for consideration. Improved understanding of the ISO process and systems for the secretary and chairperson. 13

15 Difficulties this period 14 Confirmation of systematic reviews following resolution made in Atlanta has meant that some standards which require revision need to be addressed. New resolutions will have to be made with nominated Project Leaders in order to facilitate the revisions. One project has been cancelled due to a lack of nominated experts. Use of Livelink by members is increasing, however it is still under utilised. Unforeseen circumstances have resulted in a reduced attendance at the Moscow Plenary 2014.
