4 General This survey presents a picture of the current situation, as of January 2009, of the installed ERTMS components: ETCS (the European standardised control command system) and GSM-R R (the standardised railway radio digital communication system) Information is extracted from the UIC ERTMS data base which is built on official information given by Platform members with the objective of offering them an ongoing added-value service and to maintain Platform strategic position and understanding of the rail business. Information is displayed in map and tabular format

5 ETCS in Europe commercial operation ETCS is being deployed nationally on specific routes, as a first step to aligning with other national plans along specific international corridors, in accordance with the European MoU sixcorridor strategy. 14 Agenda #3 ERTMS MoU Target dates, results MoU 24&26: Finalisation of detailed technical solutions (including braking curves) by MoU 16: Indication to ERA of the differences between the adopted version v in the application in operation and the d version by MoU 28(b): Draft SRS version 3 published by ERA on MoU 28(g): Detailed planning for baseline 3 agreed in the Steering Committee on the basis of ERA proposal by MoU 16: Date for the upgrading of existing applications to d by (from MS).

15 Agenda #3 ERTMS MoU Next targets, actions and perspectives validation of SRS v3 (first semester 09) Engineering rules for on boards are urgently needed and a proposal should be made available at the earliest opportunity, but before ERA proposal for trackside engineering rules before lab test of compatibility with version 2.3.0d (end. 09) Planning as regards testing needs to be reshuffled with the aim to provide, at the latest end 2010 a test environment validation of test spec V3 (2010/2011) Proposal of the Baseline 3 by ERA to EC in order to be voted in RISC (ex art. 21) by 2012 Additional MoUs between corridors and Industry are in progress to speed up the baseline 3 product availability in the shortest time after the approval of B3 by RISC. The corridors contracts can be referred to the content of the SRS S 300 frozen by ERA in December The development and test of the new functionalities can be addressed in the contracts starting from end 2009 beginning 2010.

16 Welcome and general information adoption of the agenda Adoption of the agenda ERTMS RAILWAYS POLICY AND STRATEGY) Financing from EU and way to interface the RUs and the suppliers The financing from EU should be related to the real interoperable traffic (part of fleet interoperable that operate on the interoperable lines). An incentive mechanism should be found to finance the costs (both h to the IMs and to the RUs) ) to produce the interoperable services. The corridor should be able to propose common plans and coherent (harmonized) requirements and processes for the applications contracts and for the Acceptance process The Platform can spread the significant information coming from the countries having application in operation, already pre-harmonized.

Discussion on the improvement of the synergy between the GSM-R actions and the ERTMS platform actions b. 19 Welcome and general information adoption of the agenda Braking aspects State of the art The first release of the SRS published by ERA in December 2008 specify completely the algorithm and the parameters for the calculation of the ETCS braking curves, providing flexibility and completeness for all the t intended applications. These specifications, together with the whole SRS, will be subject to a process of consolidation and validation. In parallel, the Agency has started to work with the sector to assess a and harmonise the operational procedures and constraints for the definition and use of the braking parameters and values required as inputs for ETCS. In particular this work will provide the harmonised definition for f the correction factors related to the rolling stock to be used in the ETCS algorithm. The UIC results of the UIC B for the conversion model (lambda to deceleration) have been integrated in the specifications: the Agency is grateful for the help and the input of the UIC experts
