8 GRIDS The Grid technology gives the ability for communities to share resources as they tackle common goals. Resources can be: Computers, video facilities, printers, robots Experiments, telescopes, models Databases, data, results.

10 There are 3 main types of Grids: 1. COMPUTATIONAL GRIDS: - Aggregate computing power - Distributed resources for a virtual computer 2. DATA GRIDS: - Shared large-scale databases - Catalogues of databases - Virtual databases 3. SERVICE GRIDS: - Real-time collaborative Grids - Virtual laboratories or observatories - Multimedia Grids (virtual reality) - On demand Grids (dynamical services)
