5 The German view on Russia Results of a survey by German Forsa-Institute from 2007: 91% of the Germans consider the economic relationship between Germany and Russia as important (36% very important, 55% important). 62% of the Germans percieve Russia as a reliable business partner. 51% of the Germans are uncontent with the media reporting of Russia in Germany. 9 History and Current Situation Kirovsky Zavod is a group of companies located in Saint-Petersburg with more than 200 years of history, employees, 650 Mio. turnover (2012) 70 years Soviet Union: maximum vertical integration, employees, manufacturing for military, agricultural and power industry Since 1991: Privatization of the company, survival of several severe crises in Russia, closing down and renting out of parts of the factory, reduction of turnover and in number of employees 20 years transformation: break down of the market in the former Soviet Republics and Eastern Europe, growing competition on the domestic market due to technological leadership of manufacturers from western countries and/or price-related competition from Asia 9
