2 ERWA, the association of European producers of railway wheels and wheelsets was established in In 2004 the members decided to leave the status as an autonomous association and joined UNIFE to build up a working group under the same name. TODAY ERWA consists of 11 companies operating in 9 different countries Deliveries to customers on the 5 continents Turnover : EUR 865 mil. in ,8% increase Export outside Europe : EUR 124 mil. 14,4% decrease Staff (excluding temporary) : patents worldwide

4 Vision : ERWA promotes the development and the standardization of wheels and wheelsets by focusing on safety, reliability and economic efficiency ERWA activities include the definition, adaptation and implementation of advanced technologies ERWA is a recognised partner of the Railway Industry The contribution of ERWA to the whole railway industry can be summarized as follows: Leadership in the promotion, standardization and design of wheels, wheelsets, axles and tires Platform for improved communication on technology and expertise Research and Development focus Implementation of advanced technology Optimization of TLCC Competent advisory services

8 During last ERWA Spring meeting hosted by Lucchini Poland in Krakow in May 2008, new chairmanships were assigned: ERWA (and Steering Committee) Chairman : Mr. Jean-Pierre Auger (GHH-Valdunes) ERWA Technical Committee Chairman: Mr. Radim Zima (Bonatrans Group) ERWA Development Committee Chairman: Mr. Roberto Forcella (Lucchini Sidermeccanica) In 2007 numerous activities have been carried out by the various Committees. They can be summarized as follows.

9 The Steering Committee has : Decided to contribute to the update of the UNIFE Rail Market Study modeled by the consultancy company Roland Berger, both financially and with its own statistics; Nominated the Members of the Steering Committee for the next International Wheelset Congress to be held in Cape Town the March 2010, as well as the Chairmen of the Organising and Technical Committees; Released a common press statement warning on steel and energy price for wheels and wheelsets production.

10 The Development Committee has: updated the market statistics 2007 and forecast 2008,monitored and analysed the development of costs for material, energies and labor; initiated a wider Extra-European competitors database; given recommandations for the 16th International Wheelset Congress; finalised the 3rd ERWA Newsletter; updated the ERWA brochure taking into account the entrance of Lucchini Poland;

11 The Technical Committee has: contributed to the revision of existing standards EN 13103/13104; EN 13260/13261 and the projected standards on Cast Wheels; submitted the ProWEEL R&D project under the FP7 1st call; produced a common position on the TSI Freight Wagon and conducted a preliminary work on the TSI Rolling Stock; identified and substantiated common issues for the IRIS certification.

13 UNIFE / ERWA has participated to the 15th IWC hosted by Bonatrans in Prague, September 23-27, UNIFE / ERWA will participate to the 16th IWC hosted by Ringrollers in Cape Town, March 14-19,
