Gipson has been a technologist for over two decades. Starting out as a Technician with Honeywell Inc. in 1987, graduating to an Engineer at Johnson Controls in the mid-90''s and at Pacific Gas and Electric in Mr. Gipson co-founded in 1997 the world's first Internet based Enterprise Energy Management company, Silicon Energy Corp. Itron Corp. acquired Silicon Energy in March 2003 for $71M. Mr. Gipson was Awarded United States Patent number 6,178,362, Jan 23, 2001 as Co-inventor of: an Energy Management System and Method utilizing the Internet to perform Facility and Energy Management of large corporate enterprises. Edison recently honored Mr. Gipson as a ''modern day'' African-American inventor with significant contributions to technology and specifically, the Electric utility industry. Mr. Gipson continues to help multisite customers manage their enterprise energy assets as CTO of Phoenix Energy Technologies, Inc., a leader in the Enterprise Energy and Facility Management with thousands of customers sites with over $1billion in annual energy spend.

2 What is a mashup? IT for Energy Efficiency & Building Performance The term mashup actually originated from music! It is when you take music and / or singing from two different songs (which usually belong to different styles) and mix them together to create a track in a new song. In web 2.0 development, a mashup is a Web application hybrid that combines data or functionality from two or more sources into a single integrated application. The term mashup implies easy, fast integration, frequently done by access to open APIs and / or XML data sources to produce results that were not the original reason for producing the raw source data. An example of a mashup is the use of cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real estate data, thereby creating a new and distinct Web service that was not originally provided by either source. 2

7 IT for Energy Efficiency & Building Performance Some benefits of energy and facility mashups: 7 Use weather forecasts to initiate off-peak demand limiting, pre-cooling strategies Coordinate energy usage with facility (e.g. tenant and classroom) scheduling Allocate energy use to departments or buildings using virtual bills to give users insight into the impact of their energy decisions (or to facilitate intra-organization cost allocation) Provide open GIS access to stakeholders to raise awareness of energy use (e.g. dorm vs. dorm competitions on energy use) Use historical trending analysis to understand and then improve coincident demand peaks (which drive peak rate billing) Drive maintenance activity by maintaining equipment given usage and/or anomalous behavior (SPM vs. calendar) Use automated diagnostics to detect cycling of heavy equipment to save wear and tear Set enterprise-wide policies on energy use for central monitoring and benchmarking Drive capital spending and maintenance decisions with ROI based information Choose how to react to EMS alarm situations based on ROI information Begin tracking and reporting critical information about carbon footprint
