3 Who are UKTI? UKTI is the Government organisation that helps UK-based companies succeed in international markets and supports overseas companies bring high-quality investment to the UK. 3
4 The strength of partnership UKTI combines the resource of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and works with the Local Enterprise Partnerships in England and the Devolved Administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Overseas, UKTI staff operate the trade and inward investment sections in British Embassies and Consulates General around the world. Many of the staff are locally recruited to provide seamless cultural and linguistic interfaces. 4

6 UKTI Support to the Nuclear Industry Working with the Nuclear Industry Association: UKTI supports UK business in exporting through a network of trade advisors in 40 UK locations and in Embassies and Consulates around the world. UKTI also provides support to foreign companies investing in the UK. On the trade side the High Value Opportunities Programme - is a new approach to identify, prioritise and deliver support for pursuing major projects and contracts that offer huge opportunities for British business. This include several opportunities in the nuclear sector. 6
7 Nuclear Industrial Strategy & Action Plan BIS and DECC issued the Nuclear Supply Chain Action Plan in Dec 2012 and the Nuclear Industry Strategy in March Civil Nuclear sector identified as a driver for growth These documents identify how HMG and Industry can work together to maximise potential of the sector Nuclear Industry Council will oversee implementation of NIS Both documents recognise the importance of global market access for the UK nuclear industry 7
8 Nuclear Export Opportunity Significant Export opportunity for UK companies: 68 reactors under construction and 317 proposed by countries are building or planning for new plants Potential investment in new nuclear build by 2025 is $1.5 trillion Nuclear power capacity is projected to grow from 393GW in 2009 to 630GW in 2035 (IEA, World Energy Outlook, 2011) 75% of reactors in operation will reach end of their design life in the next 20 years, requiring life extension or decommissioning By 2030 the IAEA estimates that 145 reactors will have been decommissioned at a cost of 250bn Civil nuclear could be a 50bn pa global market by

10 UKTI Support to the Nuclear Industry UKTI will articulate the UK civil nuclear offer and facilitate introductions with key overseas decision makers to help UK companies realise their potential to secure a significant share of the global civil nuclear market, by: Building strong government to government relationships with potential overseas customers Developing promotional material Delivering a programme of inward and outward missions, seminars and attendance at international exhibitions and conferences Providing relevant diplomatic support for specific UK bids 10
11 UKTI Support to the Nuclear Industry Develop Civil Nuclear Export Strategy - agreed with industry by Summer Professional research commissioned to produce a report on the global nuclear market for both the new build and waste management / decommissioning markets. - Research will combine knowledge of UK capability, competing capability, global opportunities, and status of these opportunities. - It will identify key export markets that are well-matched with UK capability - Relevant trade associations and companies will be consulted 11
12 High Value Opportunities Strategic Relationships HVO UKTI will develop relationships with strategically important international partners e.g. EDF, Areva, Kepco, Rosatom, Hitachi, Toshiba, Rosatom, CNNC, CGNC, etc. China New Build Market: - an established HVO - largest nuclear new build market globally: plans for up to 80GW - but strong domestic capability. Japan Decommissioning Opportunities: - an established HVO with 1bn+ accessible value to UK - supporting Japan in decommissioning Fukushima Dai-ichi India - 2nd largest new build market globally with plans for 70GW but strong domestic capability - government to government discussions underway 12
13 High Value Opportunities Central European Nuclear Opportunities: - 40bn of investment planned across the region - includes new build, life extension, & decommissioning - Bulgaria/Czech Republic/Hungary/Poland/Romania/Slovakia/Slovenia Turkey New Build: - Rosatom to build 4 reactors in 12.6bn Akkuyu project - Atmea (Areva/MHI) to build 4 reactors at Sinop Jordan New Build - a $4.5bn project for Jordan s first NPP - 2 vendors bidding: Areva/Mitsubishi (Atmea) & Rosatom - UK plc is pursuing a consortium approach to support Jordanian Authorities to implement the project. 13
14 High Value Opportunities Taiwan Decommissioning - Taiwanese policy is no life extensions: first reactor will shut down in Immediate opportunities exist to provide strategic advice on setting up a decommissioning strategy - MoU with the NDA Saudi Arabia New Build: - key customer, KACARE, is planning to build 18GW of nuclear power, $100bn of investment - 3rd largest new build market globally; no domestic capability Vietnam New Build - Rosatom MoU to build 2 reactors, then a further two - Japanese consortium MoU also to build $20bn initial programme 14
15 UKTI Support to the Nuclear Industry UK PLC Approach Work with industry to encourage a more coordinated and integrated offering of UK nuclear expertise, to address specific export opportunities and provide packaged solutions Annual Showcase UKTI has developed an annual Civil Nuclear Export Showcase to promote the UK civil nuclear industry to an international audience. Latest event in February attracted 98 overseas decision makers from 20 countries. IAEA s Annual General Conference Unique opportunity to promote UK civil nuclear expertise to a global audience of Ministers, policy makers, senior officials, regulators and industry representatives. UKTI organises a UK stand, trade mission and side seminar event General Support In addition, all companies have access to the comprehensive range of bespoke support that UKTI provides to all companies across its global operations. 15
