8 Maritime Growth Study Review In January 2017 the government commissioned a review of the Maritime Growth Study. Better capturing Port interests and better using our customers and users Pressing on with implementing the Growth recommendations that require action now Launching the development of a Maritime Vision for 2050 Identifying the steps we need to take to ensure that the UK remains a maritime world-leader Far-reaching and involving all our partners across the sector Anticipating publishing the Maritime Growth Review around the end of

9 Exiting the European Union PM speech in Florence on 22 September and Statement to the House on 9 October Working to ensure our laws work on day one Making sure we are ready for negotiations on the future relationship, whilst also preparing for potential no deal scenario. 12 The case for a Port Connectivity Study Port connectivity is now recognised as an important factor in transport investment considerations. Connecting freight to international gateways is also highlighted as important for economic growth. But freight and ports do not always have a high profile in political, government, business and public agendas despite the vital role they play. So the Port Connectivity Study aims to demonstrate the importance and raise the profile so that it is always part of investment decision making. (1) To Show Port s contribution to UK plc and aspirations for the future (2) To examine the sufficiency of ports connectivity Capacity vs Demand (3) To Make the case - Inform / aid strategic direction to transport investment and wider Government initiatives Ports are a focus for significant economic activity directly, but also in underpinning the UK s wider economic activity through the 95% of UK imports & exports handled. Detailed identification of key port connectivity opportunities & issues on the road and rail networks, with comparison against current programmed investments Demonstrate the vital need for effective port connectivity: Providing an overview of port developments and aspirations Informing discussions on road & rail infrastructure 12

16 Devolution to Wales Wales Act 2017 became law on 31January. The Welsh Government will take over responsibility for harbours in Wales, apart from reserved trust ports, from April next year. Completes devolution of ports policy from DfT to colleagues in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. 17 Port Security Cross Government - National Strategy for Maritime Security; Risk informed security standards to mitigate the threat from terrorism; Provision of relevant security information to the port sector; Partnership working with industry; Overseas port security assessments and; Assessing the implementation of International Ship and Port Facility Security Code 17

18 Concluding Remarks Looking forward to getting to know members and working with the BPA. Keen to engage and to understand your issues and asks as well as your future plans.
