3 Motivation Climatic conditions in Europe are changing beyond statistical fluctuations Past moderate predictable stable Future extreme unpredictable unstable Europe will face a significant increase in extreme, long-lasting weather conditions. These changes not only affect the natural environment, but also the technical infrastructures of our societies.
