2 Technology Software Development & Mobile For 2017 there will be a big push for everything Microservices. Microservices enable companies to move from their monolithic approach to a more agnostic approach from a technical perspective. Top Java,.NET software engineers will once again be in high demand, especially developers with experience in SaaS/Cloud development. C++ is seeing a rejuvenation also, especially within the Fintech space. From a data perspective, candidates are expected to have exposure to NoSQL databases like Cassandra and MongoDB and to have experience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark and Hive, these are a major plus. Sourcing candidates within the Irish market is quite competitive at present, demand for top talent has never been stronger and companies have to be extremely competitive when attracting new talent. Sourcing candidates from the continent is very common, nearly 50% of candidates are coming from abroad. Overall, candidates are becoming more rounded engineers, people must think in the abstract in terms of the overall architecture and be able to write short clean code. The demand for top quality mobile developers from the Android or ios sphere is still quite strong but the market in Dublin remains quite small, therefore a shortage of skills persists in this area. PMO Consultancy We have seen a surge in requirements across the contract and permanent jobs market within the consultancy space. The demand is high for experienced business and management consultants with transformation and PMO project experience in the public and private sectors. This is a real candidates market at the moment and the consulting firms are competing to secure the best talent available which has accelerated the need for these skills and increased the speed of the recruitment lifecycle. We are also witnessing a major shift across the financial services sector, particularly within the banks as they streamline their processes, assess operations and move to a more automated environment to ultimately become more efficient and reduce costs. Digitisation and the need for improved online experience and customer journey is driving a demand for candidates with proven commercial experience in digital, online technology and e-commerce projects. Business Intelligence and Data Analytics. Whilst the demand for BI and Data Analytics professionals continues to grow, the short supply of experienced candidates continues to be a challenge in the market. Recently we have seen an influx of graduates showing a keen interest in the data analytics space and there are many recent graduates eager to gain a career in the industry. This is a great sign for the future, however, there is still very much a gap in the market in terms of available experienced resources. We are still seeing a strong demand for traditional roles such as DBA s, Database Developers and BI and candidates in this space have plenty of options to choose from in the form of contract and permanent roles. Over the past 12 months we have seen a huge increase in roles in the data analytics space the roles we are seeing are a combination of data analyst s, data mining and data scientists. The most in demand skills in this area include Tableau, SPSS, R, Python and Power BI. Testing We see an increasing demand for testers in the financial services sector, strong mix of contract and permanent. There is a shortage of testers and QA candidates on the market and this is driving up salaries which has led to an increase in demand for contractors. Like the dev space, we are seeing more and more candidates coming from Europe. Likewise, counter offers are on the rise. Clients look for experience in automation testing, using python, selenium, and Java programming experience, perl, bash, C#. Scripting language - shell programming, python, C#, JAVA and the following are nice to have: knowledge of any of the following technologies would be a plus: UI automation, Java, C++, knowledge of databases, MySQL, SQL. Infrastructure The IT Infrastructure market continues to be steady. We are seeing companies leaning more towards permanent staff hires due to the uplift in the Irish economy. The hot skills continue to be IT Security and DevOPs (Linux). There is a shortage of these skills at present which has led to salary increases. Overall, it s an attractive market for those seeking a new challenge.
