Enterprise Class Data Centre The new iseek Enterprise Class Data Centre ( i s e e k D C ) p rovides g ro u n d b re a k i n g innovations in data centre design and development, while also meeting the exacting requirements of today s Corporate and Government clients. The purpose-built iseek DC provides customers with outstanding facilities including security, power efficiency and robustness, connectivity and a range of value-added services. As an Enterprise Class facility, the iseek DC establishes a new industry standard for nextgeneration green data centres within Australia. Some of the key features of this new Enterprise Class facility include: Energy Efficiency The iseek DC has created a new and exciting benchmark for data centres in the area of energy efficiency by achieving a 1.3 PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) rating by The Green Grid one of the lowest power usage indexes in Australia. Our commitment to energy efficiency provides our customers with a unique opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint and power wastage. Density The iseek DC allows customers to reliably deploy the latest generations of IT equipment. In the optimally efficient and robust iseek DC environment, customers can exploit high density technologies, including blade servers and storage arrays, free from financial and operational risk. Robustness The iseek DC is designed to ensure the continuous operation of critical IT systems. This redundancy is ensured even through prolonged outages, and also includes the ability to shut down key infrastructure for maintenance without affecting normal operation. Security The iseek DC is designed with state-ofthe-art security. With a total of 46 on-site security cameras, biometric readers, dualfactor identification for fingerprints and PIN, the iseek DC provides a superior level of security for customer infrastructure, without compromising the need for speed of access. Supporting Services A key design feature of the iseek DC is purposebuilt staging areas. Allocated per customer rollout, individual, lockable staging rooms are available for the installation and management of your equipment including rack population, setup and disaster recovery.

Data Centre Design The iseek DC is purpose-built from the ground up and therefore has significant design advantages over and above the functionality provided from retrofitting an existing structure. Thermal Insulation The iseek DC has been finished externally with a panelling system called Kingspan. Working in a similar way to panels in a cold room, the Kingspan system creates a thermal barrier and air pocket from the sun which reduces the thermal load and therefore increases cooling efficiency. This construction method sets new standards for insulation and environmental performance. Roofing The iseek DC was built using a non-penetrable roofing design whereby the complete roof profile was rolled on-site in a single sheet off the coil. This technologically advanced roofing design alleviates the need for expansion joints and ensures that the roof is completely impermeable. Staging Rooms Key to the installation and management of customer equipment are the purpose-built staging areas on both levels. These staging areas are dedicated individual rooms provided per customer rollout for equipment setup, disaster recovery or office facilities. Customers can also easily manage and maintain their rack space within the staging room areas. Physical setup of rack units can occur within the staging room and then can simply be rolled into the colocation area. Our staging room facilities effectively alleviate the difficulties often associated with rack setup within the colocation area itself. All rubbish and packaging is removed and handled by iseek staff.
Data Centre Design Loading Bay Our data centre has been designed with a customer ease of use focus. The iseek DC loading bay is a secure, custom-built facility equipped with a dock leveller that ensures ease of loading and unloading. Water Efficiency The iseek DC collects 97% of roof water and 100% of air conditioning condensate, which, at full capacity, amounts to two litres per second. This water is then recycled into the Brisbane Airport Corporation s reservoir system. Customers have the ability to wheel a fully populated rack the entire distance from the loading dock to the colocation room. Extra height and width in the access doors and a custom-built lift accommodates extra height and loading capacity. The loading bay is also fitted with a vehicle trap, ensuring that secure areas are separated from unsecured areas at all times; access doors to the loading bay and secured areas physically cannot be open at the same time. A ventilation system also extracts any residual exhaust from vehicles and equalises the atmosphere and temperature of that within the facility itself. Support Facilities Ease of deployment and data centre design are our priority. Customers that require additional facilities are accommodated with fully lockable meeting rooms equipped with presentation functionality, boardroom facilities, and a kitchenette. A secure and fireproof storeroom is also provided for storage of backup tapes and other media. The iseek DC is purpose-built from the ground up and therefore has significant design advantages over and above the functionality provided from retrofitting an existing structure.

Energy Efficient An important focus of iseek DC design has been energy efficiency. The new iseek DC sets an exciting new benchmark for data centres in the area of power efficiency by providing large and small enterprises, as well as Government departments, with options to reduce both their power wastage and energy footprint. These breakthroughs in energy management have meant that the iseek DC is one of Australia s first data centres to make use of free cooling (or hybrid cooling). Free cooling uses filtered air sourced outside the data centre, rather than recycling and cooling the hot air emitting from the equipment contained within the data centre. Effective and Clean Power The iseek DC has been strategically designed to reduce power consumption and energy costs through innovations in building technology and design. Energy efficiency is measured using the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) benchmark. The PUE is a widely accepted efficiency standard which has been developed by The Green Grid, a global consortium of leading information technology companies that are striving to improve energy efficiency in data centres. PUE is a decimal number calculated by dividing the Total Data Centre Power by the IT Equipment Power. The Green Grid recommends that data centres should have a maximum PUE of 1.5 or less. By using the energy efficiency design framework outlined by the Green Grid, we have been able to pinpoint where energy improvements can be made. Power resources are more effectively managed and allocated within the iseek DC and, as a result, this reduces power consumption and costs. Our energy design plan has enabled us to make energy efficient decisions, without compromising the power requirements of our customers. The iseek DC has been designed to be able to achieve a PUE of 1.3 or less, placing the iseek DC as one of the most energy efficient in Australia. PUE Ratings PUE Level of Efficiency 3.0 Very Inefficient 2.5 Inefficient 2.0 Average 1.5 Efficient 1.2 Very Efficient The iseek DC has been designed to be able to achieve a PUE of 1.3 or less placing the iseek DC as one of the most energy efficient in Australia. 11
Power Quality and Protection Lightning strikes and severe surges can be potentially disruptive and damaging to business operations, resulting in costly repairs. Severe surge protection is provided to the iseek DC via the ERITECH System 3000 advanced lightning protection system and earth grid with earth clamps. Developed using the most up-to-date lightning research and technology, the ERITECH System 3000 provides an innovative and effective solution to the problem of severe power surges and lightning strikes using four key components: Air Terminal Isolated from the main building structure using an insulated support mast, this non-radioactive terminal is built from high quality, non-corrosive materials. The air terminal requires no external source of power. Down-conductor The ERITECH 3000 is an integrated direct strike protection system with a purpose-designed shielded down-conductor that effectively reduces the risk of side-flashing and safely conducts lightning energy to the ground. The shielded cable helps direct energy safely to the grounding system, without interfering with equipment or electrical wiring. Grounding System The grounding system is designed as a low impedance system that safely disperses lightning energy in four directions through the concrete slab. Robust Power Improved power quality throughout the data centre is achieved by incorporating harmonic filters, surge diverters and suppressors, and power factor correction units into the main switchboard. To ensure the continuous operation of data centre services, all critical power elements have either been duplicated or use N+1 redundancy. Power is supplied by two separate underground 33kV feeds, with 11 kv / 415v dry type distribution transformers with redundancy of 2+1 x 2.5 MW. Emergency power is guaranteed with 2+1 standby 2,200 kva Cummins diesel generators in a custom silence canopy. With a 28,000 litre backup fuel tank, the iseek DC can operate at full capacity for 48 hours before refuelling. Fault tolerance for power supplies has been maintained throughout the design from start to finish. Redundant paths for vertical distribution cabling to the data centre floors and the horizontal power supply to each rack, result in a final rack power distribution of 2N. The facility is designed to deliver an average of 6kW (25 Amps) of power per rack, and customers are provided with access that enables them to monitor their individual power utilisation. Our electrical design framework allows us to shut down key infrastructure and carry out regular scheduled maintenance to ensure all components of the facility are in optimal condition, without affecting normal operation. Lightning Event Counter All lightning strikes intercepted by the ERITECH System 3000 are automatically registered and recorded using the lightning event counter. To ensure the continuous operation of data centre services, all critical power elements have either been duplicated or use N+1 redundancy. 12

Air Conditioning and Cooling System A key aspect of the data centre s design is the incorporation of sustainable and efficient energy practices. The building uses a range of innovative cooling techniques, including hot/cold aisle configuration with an in-rack air delivery system supplemented by perforated tiles, and air grilles in the cool aisle flooring. Customer equipment draws cool air delivered by the system through the racks, which is then expelled into the rear hot aisle where it is removed via overhead extraction. Barriers are in place to prevent cross-flow contamination of the cold aisle. The hot/cold aisle configuration works in conjunction with a sophisticated Building Management System (BMS) that administers all electrical and mechanical systems within the facility. Fresh Air Cooling The BMS incorporates a Fresh Air Cooling system (or free cooling system) that monitors the internal and external environment, allowing it to automatically control both the release of hot air and the inflow of filtered ambient air that is mixed with conditioned air. Another added advantage of the Fresh Air Cooling system is that it significantly decreases cooling system energy consumption from a typical utilisation of 70% or more, to a more economical utilisation of 11%. The result is that the iseek DC is one of the most energy efficient data centres in Australia. The iseek DC s air conditioning also includes m u l t i p l e c a r b o n - n e u t r a l c o n c u r r e n t l y maintainable, modular chillers with four modules in each chiller with N+1 redundancy. There are four air-handling units with N+1 redundancy on each floor. Due to the data centre s innovative design, all efficiency improvements have been made without sacrificing the reliability or capacity of the air conditioning and cooling systems. Our facility provides an average available cooling per rack of 5kW (2,500 W/m2). Incorporation of a Fresh Air Cooling system significantly decreases cooling system energy consumption from a typical utilisation of 70% or greater to an economy utilisation of 11%. 15
Connectivity The iseek DC is connected to a fully redundant, metropolitan fibre ring, which provides customers a variety of Ethernet and xwdm services. The three iseek Communications data centres are the access points into the fibre ring where you have the advantage and flexibility of installing equipment across two colocation facilities, if desired. Customers have the ability to access iseek Communications superior high-speed, Dual Tier 1, Internet backbone. The network design provides customers with peace of mind in the knowledge that their network services are delivered over a redundant, geographically diverse fibre network. The site is multi-carrier enabled, with access to Optus, Telstra, and Uecomm services. The iseek DC also has the added advantage of being based within the Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) precinct. BAC management practices enable iseek to deliver high-density mission-critical services whilst mitigating any risk of communication cable cuts and security threats. BAC also provides standby on-site emergency response, if required. In the event of any network issue, IP connectivity is maintained by automatically rerouting around the problem area to ensure interruption-free operation of all services. The iseek DC is connected to a fully redundant, metropolitan fibre ring, which provides customers a variety of Ethernet and xwdm services. 16

Security iseek understands that the security of customer infrastructure is essential and has designed the data centre with these requirements in mind. In addition to the risk mitigation provided by its location within the BAC-managed precinct, all physical and electronic security at the site is managed and controlled by iseek. This includes 24 hour on-site monitored security, with security gates, man-traps and vehicle traps. 24 hour access is provided to the facility via two-factor authentication using a combination of biometrics, swipe card, and PIN. Mechanical plant areas are included within the data centre security plan and are provided with a separate access control zone. The building, data centre and mechanical plant is under continual video surveillance with 46 vandal-resistant cameras that provide superior image quality, high-quality progressive scan sensors and advanced image processing. These features allow for the delivery of clear images even in areas with poor visibility. The cameras are securely networked, providing customers with real-time video of their individual racks and equipment via a web-based interface. All lighting within the data centre is automatically controlled via sensors, allowing the centre to illuminate any areas where motion is detected. 19
Fire Detection and Suppression A key component of iseek DC design has been fire detection and suppression. The iseek DC employs the latest and most sophisticated airsampling smoke detection system. The system not only monitors the main switchboards and carrier interface room, ensuring that power and communications are not interrupted, but can also pinpoint the location of potential fires. The system works by continually drawing air in through a dual-stage filter, which is then sent to a laser detection chamber. By employing the latest in laser technology, the system is extremely sensitive and will provide a warning at even the slightest trace of smoke. The fire detection system incorporates a distributed fire alarm control system that prevents false alarms and avoids the risk of single points of failure. At iseek, we understand that one of the key concerns of our customers is business continuity. In the unlikely event of a fire, you can rest assured that there will be minimal interruptions to your business operations. Based on the principle of oxygen depletion, Argonite effectively extinguishes fire without endangering personnel or damaging business equipment or property. The system will also provide sufficient oxygen to any personnel who are in the data centre at the time the Argonite is discharged. Features of the Argonite fire protection system include: No post-fire residue Suppresses fire within seconds to minimise damage Electrically non-conductive Will operate even during electrical failure Is effective against fires in almost all combustible materials and flammable liquids The iseek DC also has a total of three securitymonitored and alarmed fire escapes for safe evacuation. The iseek DC is protected by the Argonite fire suppression system, an inert gas clean agent consisting of equal parts pure Argon and pure Nitrogen. An environmentally friendly fire protection and suppression system, Argonite offers an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) of zero. 20
21
Location and Support The data centre is conveniently located within the BAC precinct, 8.5 kilometres North-East of Brisbane s CBD. Situated near major arterial roads, the site can be easily accessed from anywhere within the greater Brisbane region. Interstate and international visitors have direct access via the Brisbane Domestic and International airports. Support Services The iseek DC has an on-site Facilities Manager and the iseek Support Centre provides a single point of contact for arranging Remote Hands support for both scheduled and unscheduled works. Support services are offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. BAC Services By constructing the data centre within a fully planned precinct, iseek ensures 24 hour / 7 day curfew-free operation of services. Additionally, any cabling, building, or excavation work on BAC land requires the prior authority of BAC, thereby minimising risk to the data centre s power and connectivity supplies. In continuing with iseek s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations, the data centre complies with BAC s Environmental Management System (EMS). This system actively encourages tenants to improve the environmental performance of their operations through energy usage, water conservation, vegetation management, and emissions. These actions collectively aim to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and protect significant flora and fauna species within the area. 22
