2 DELIVERING SOLUTIONS FOR OVER 30 YEARS Who we are... A1 Engineering Solutions deliver solutions which meet our customers needs, whether for a commercial, retail or industrial application. We cover a broad range of engineering applications including Refrigeration, HVAC, Building Services, Manufacturing, Design and Service & Maintenance. We have the capability to meet the most stringent of specifications, whilst ensuring we remain commercially competitive. Since 1985, we have consistently delivered quality products and services to our customers, building an enviable level of industry knowledge and expertise. As a specialist in the convenience and supermarket sector, A1 has developed a strong brand and is known as a trusted partner to many leading retailers. This, along with our total ownership and best in all we do approach to delivery, has enabled us to build a name synonymous with quality and value. We are proud to have major UK food retailers, amongst others, as our valued customers. Over 30 years of successful growth A1 Engineering Solutions has come of age, evolving from an installation supplier for the contracting industry to a direct partner to retail. Over recent years we have grown significantly; designing and manufacturing our own plant, growing our electrical & mechanical division, expanding our service & maintenance offering and opening further regional offices to accommodate our business growth. In this period we have more than doubled our turnover and continued to invest in our future. As a result of recent changes and the introduction of new colleagues, the business has continued to succeed in winning new work we ve maintained our strong relationship with customers such as Marks & Spencer, Co-op and Morrisons and have added high street names to our portfolio, such as Waitrose, Aldi, Sports Direct and Home Bargains to our evergrowing list of customers. Last year saw further development of A1 s low carbon plant solutions. To support the business becoming a multi-disciplined company, A1 rebranded in the summer of 2014 to encompass all its new divisions. Since 1985, we are proud to have weathered two recessions and grown significantly into the successful, progressive business we see today, without losing sight of our key goal: delivering a quality product alongside excellent customer service.

3 Our team... In order to support our rapid growth without compromising on our high standards, we have increased our staffing in recent years. A1 Engineering Solutions employs some of the country s best and brightest design engineering staff, along with some of the most experienced refrigeration, mechanical and electrical project management staff. All of which are supported by highly trained and skilled, regionally located, administrative support staff. A1 Engineering prides itself on ensuring its team members are armed with the latest training and skills to carry out their roles in an ever-changing engineering world where energy, cost, quality and speed of delivery are of the essence. Meeting our customers needs whether for a commercial, retail or industrial application Refrigeration Installations As a national provider of refrigeration contracting excellence, A1 has established itself as a prominent supplier to the food retail industry. The team at A1 prides itself on delivering high quality refrigeration installations for a broad range of customers across the UK. Our installations include simple refrigeration systems for small stores through to complex natural refrigeration solutions delivered to major retail outlets and food manufacturers. In short, A1 is a one stop shop for all our customers refrigeration requirements. Building Services & HVAC Delivery Our building services operation complements our refrigeration expertise and gives a single point of contact for our customers. With energy management and operational cost becoming ever more important, the disciplines of HVAC and refrigeration have been drawn increasingly closer. A1 has completed a range of high profile natural refrigeration projects over the past few years, and it is now commonplace for our projects team to deliver natural refrigeration solutions for our food retail customers. Projects completed with natural refrigerants include stores for Booths, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose. A1 installed Morrisons first transcritical CO2 pack in the UK, at the Darlington store in late This was closely followed by a hydrocarbon plant installation at Waitrose Heathfield. With many users of refrigeration beginning to plan their transitions from HFC products, we are positioning ourselves to support with this move to natural refrigerants by offering our own hydrocarbon glycol systems whilst also ensuring that our teams have all the training required to deliver transcritical CO2 options too. A1 specialises in the use of rejected heat from refrigeration systems for use in other parts of the built environment, such as store heating or pre cooling for hot water services etc. Our building services team is expanding and carrying our broad range of complex projects, utilising the latest technologies.

5 Plant Manufacturing European Legislation surrounding the types and quantities of refrigerant UK end-users can buy and use is rapidly approaching. As such, the team at A1 recognised the need to offer our customers energy efficient and cost competitive natural refrigeration solutions. Over a two year period the A1 design team have developed a range of refrigeration plant which uses Hydrocarbons as the refrigerant of choice. This highly efficient refrigerant is already proven in many applications and A1 have taken this a step further. With the use of the latest scroll compressor technology, we have developed a system which not only provides cooling for the refrigeration cycle but can also provide the stores heating and, in certain circumstances the stores comfort cooling also. The recorded energy usage of these A1 designed and built systems is significantly better than other natural refrigeration solutions available in the market today. Our development of a low carbon, low energy and natural refrigeration plant solution has been tested and proven, with delivery now being fulfilled for several supermarket customers. Acting in the principle design role, A1 Engineering Solutions instigated and led a collaborative team from various sectors of industry to make our hydrocarbon solution a success. Initially, we approached a number of retailers to ascertain if there was an appetite in the industry for an alternative, natural solution to Transcritical CO2. Waitrose was a willing customer and worked closely with A1, along with Emerson Retail Solutions in the UK. The product of this arrangement was the development of a range of hydrocarbon packs with cooling duties from kw and heating capacities from 21kw 43kw. This A1 Engineering Solutions innovation is a first for retail refrigeration, with scroll compressor technology being used in a multi-compressor pack, using hydrocarbons as the refrigerant of choice, for the first time. CASE STUDY MANUFACTURING Service & Maintenance A1 Engineering supports its customers by offering post-installation proving period support and after sales service. We operate a 24/7 service and maintenance operation throughout the UK; our highly skilled mobile engineering technicians are located strategically across the country to support our installation or to simply deliver maintenance to existing sites. Our mobile teams are controlled centrally from our service and maintenance hub in Warrington, ensuring a speedy response to all emergency call outs. Our service management team are well versed in the planning and delivery of complex maintenance tasks. R&D and Design Services Our Research & Development team delivers solutions that really make a difference to customers, colleagues and the environment. Through searching out the latest technology, our design teams develop energy efficient solutions that are bespoke to our customers needs. By continually matching cutting edge products, we can engineer ever greater levels of efficiency into our designs to reduce installation and operational costs.

6 DELIVERING SOLUTIONS FOR OVER 30 YEARS Where we do it... A1 operates several offices across the UK. Our northerly office is in Newcastle and consists of a strong design team and highly skilled commissioning and contracting teams. The office also provides a base for Project Managers and Engineering Installation Staff who deliver projects across the north of England and Scotland. A1 also operates offices in Warrington and Leeds, with these locations serving as operating bases for Project Management staff and service engineering operations. The two hubs, and their associated transport networks, allow our teams to reach north and south, and both the east and west of England. The south of England is serviced by our regional office, located in Bristol. This location gives the business access to all major destinations in the South of England and Wales and offers project management, design and service engineering solutions. Who we do it for Over the years A1 has delivered significant numbers of convenience sites for a broad range of retail customers including, but not limited to, Sainsbury s, Waitrose, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Iceland, The Co-operative Group and John Lewis Partnership. With each of these customers A1 is held in high esteem and our repeat customer success is testament to our ethos of quality in all we do. Whilst developing its supermarket customer base, A1 has also successfully sought partnerships with non-retail customers in both the FM and Construction sectors, with this business now developing at a pace. In the past two years A1 has developed customers in the food production, bakery and food distribution sectors.

7 Customer-focused ISO standards The team at A1 are proud to have been awarded the international ISO standards 9001, and 18001, creating an Integrated Management System (IMS). The award of ISO IMS status reflects A1 s desire to become the contractor of choice to both retail and commercial customers alike. Achieving these standards indicates our commitment to promoting a safe, healthy working environment for both staff and customers, giving the latter confidence they are partnering with a legally compliant and proactive organisation. Environmental responsibility A1 has continued to work with consultants and auditors to improve upon and maintain three ISO standards, including ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management, and are making great inroads into natural refrigeration solutions and the development of low carbon, low energy products. From A1 s plant development to the investment in our bespoke service and installation management system produced by CLIK, which includes an F-gas focused module, we meet the highest standards in environmental awareness and care. The Emerald plant alone reduces the HFC system refrigerant charge from approximately 120kg with a GWP (global warming potential) of 1870 to less than 10kg of R290 with a GWP of 3. Over the coming years, EU legislation requires that the UK s most commonly used refrigerants will have their availability reduced, tapering down to only 21% of their current volume by This will mean significant price increases and reduced availability; which is why A1is at the forefront of developing new natural refrigeration solutions. This enables young people to obtain the experience and training they need, and we can assist ex-servicemen with their transition to civilian life whilst making good use of their transferable skills, strong work ethic and life experiences.
