4 Motivations High Performance Computing (HPC) or supercomputing a crucial enabler for science and technology innovation HPC in ASEAN nations has a relatively short history There is a greater need to keep pace with rapid developm ents in the HPC field Developed countries such as Japan, USA and Russia hav e already committed to building Exascale supercomputer s (1018 FLOPS) by 2020

5 Global Research Platform (GRP) The APRP is modelled on California s PRP (Pacific R esearch Platform), started early 2016 under a NSF Gr ant, with Larry Smarr as PI. Based on a concept developed by ESnet, PRP was d eveloped in response to the pressing needs of advan ced researchers dispersed over a number of major un iversities and laboratories, to have very fast, secure and seamless remote access to supercomputing and storage facilities as well as to major shared scientific i nstruments and sensor arrays

6 Objectives The key objective is to promote a vibrant and relevant HPC eco system in ASEAN. Delegates will be able to gain access to vision ary insights from thought leaders in academia and industry, opt imum networking opportunities and the HPC community in Sin gapore.
